I'd have to agree with Dave.
I was raised with Super Mario Bros. My entire family played SMB, but nothing else really (they later played SMB3, World and Kart).
Mario was the 'gateway drug' for like 3 generations.
Agreed, the series can be hardcore at times, but I think Mario has always catered to damn near everyone.

I don't agree wit TKK about Mario Bros. I don't feel like it's trying to cater to old "hardcore" fans and new comers, and that it can't decide if it's going left or right. I just think it's a fantastic game, it's got tons of replay value and I love the fact that they give you reasons to re-play a level you've already beat. The difficulty is just right (so far, I just got to World 3). Maybe it's a bit easier than the old games, but to get all the Star Coins is another story!

I still wish Nintendo would have made an actual Super Mario Bros. 4 and 5. I guess "Super Mario Bros. 3" will be Mr. Miyamoto's biggest masterpiece in the SMB's Series.

I think the controls alone appeal to anyone, move left or right and jump. I know there is more to just that because of the environments and enemies but to someone who never played games before, even back during super mario bros, it is a very inviting series and not something people think of as complicated unlike many games today.

Looking forward to GoW Collection. Nice hair cut dave. No offense, but it's about time homie.
I had my reservations about New Super Mario Bros. Wii but I think it's gonna end up as my 2nd reason to finally own a Wii. I think I'm kinda burned out on games not made by Nintendo. I was raised on Mario too,and I can remember when Mario wasn't even his name (Gamer to the core). So it looks like I'll be picking up a Wii with my income tax return, along with a second PS3 because my gf is now hooked on Call of Duty:WaW just like I am. She's gonna have to get her own HDTV though lol.
