Reel Fishing 3 - PS2

reel tough fishing

Now for a nice relaxing day of fishing....not! This game is more like a fishing sim where you get to stay in a cabin by the lake. You have a dog and fish tanks to keep your catches in. The problem is my tanks are pretty empty. Just trying to pull in a 4 inch bluegil is a major chore. Now I've caught a few in my day and it shouldn't be that hard to catch one. You get them right up to shore and then they burst back out and snap the line. Everything about this game is great except for catching fish. It's a real shame they had to take the fun out of fishing.

Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories - PS2

Disgaea 1.5

I loved the first one with it's quirky humor and great strategy. I was hoping for bigger things for the sequel. This is more of an expansion pack than a true sequel. There are new characters and story line but the graphics have not been improved much. Look for a few cameos from the first game too. Level design is good and it's still a blast to play. It's just more of the same. If you liked the first one then pick this up. If you're new to the series then this one may be easier to find.

Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland - PS2

Good fun

I never played a Harvest Moon game before and right now they're hard to find. I went on line and picked up both Save the Homeland and A Wonderful Life SE. This one is the better of the two. A Wonderful Life had bad graphics, bad control and bad music. Graphics were very plain, almost PS1 quality. The music was loud and repetitive. The controls were sluggish with a bad camera. Even the menu screens were hard to use. They crank these games out and don't seem to care about improving the series. The PS2 can create better games. For some reason there's even load times going into and out of the menu screen. There's no reason for that and it just drags the game down. Save the Homeland has nice cell shaded graphics and better controls. Such a big improvement and I think this one even came out first. You have to save the town from a theme park that wants to open up. So if you're thinking of buying one of the two then I suggest Save The Homeland.

SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs - PS2

SOWHAT?

Or should I say Socrappy. Zipper is getting very lazy and just cranking these things out. The graphics are bland and look like a PS1 game. Compare it to Killzone and you'll see what I mean. Game play hasn't improved much, sure you can drive now but big deal. Character detail is still poor and enemy AI is sloppy at best. An over the shoulder view would be a great help like they did with Ghost Recon 2. Navagating the menu screens is also a chore. Lets hope the PS3 verion is better.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend - PS2

The babe is back!

It has been a long time but that old feeling is back. Not perfect by any means but compared to the last one it's like going from 1 to 10. Controls are easier to use and the game looks darn good with beautiful vistas. Levels are sometimes too direct, they need to give you more ways to your destination. You can upgrade weapons and change her look too. You even get to explore her home which is like a level in itself. It's a really short game though and her aim seems a little off. We can look forward to even greater things in the future. We have the Aniversary edition coming up along with a sequel. I can't wait.
