as dissapoining as expected really
I have loved my ps1, I have loved my ps2, and I now like my ps3. I must be fair to the ol' ps3 though, the ps1 and ps2 have been and in some way are systems with history and systems that have had their chance to redeem themselves from their launch day jitters. As an entertainment system it delivers, and Pricewise the value can't be beat. Try as they might the microsoft fanboys and the microsoft fanboys that won't admit they're fanboys can't hide the fact that as far as dollars go the ps3 beats out the 360 hands down and that's without the blue ray capabilities. Out of the box the 60 gig ps3 comes with a 60gig harddrive, wifi connectivity out of the box, multi format card reader, wireless control with rechargable battery, and free online play. When compared to the 360 as hardware the ps3 comes with a HD that's 40gigs bigger, built in wifi, and a controller that can be recharged without spending money on batteries, throw in a monthly fee for online play and the accessories needed for the 360 to match the ps3 hardware and all of a sudden price was really no excuse for me. And now for this blue ray thing. From watching a few movies I can say that the ps3 is a very capble blue ray player and even though it is a little awkward to use the controller as a remote it's still leagues better than the ps2's due to it's wireless capabilities. The online service was capable although not overwhelmingly so. Surfing the net was a bit slow and using the controller as a keyboard very awkward, a usb/wireless keyboard/mouse will fix that, the browser was capable as well a bit slow but capable. The playstation store, although rather bare at the moment does show promise. It showcases a mix of movie trailers, game trailers and both ps3 and arcade-like demos. Still in it's infancy the playstation network is still a bit barebones for my taste but I can't wait for the future. And now for the games. The ps3 showcased a rather limited and dissapointing launch except with one notable exception in "resistance: fall of man." A gem of a game in any timeframe and an astounding success at launch, once again imsomniac games has shown why they are who they are. Other than that the game lineup has been less than stellar. Over all the ps3 as hardware has in my opinion met my expectations, but so far as a game machine has dissapointed. I don't say this as a nail in the coffin statement though because honestly every console so far has dissapointed except of course for the dreamcast and the wii. With the addition of more solid caliber games and further mastering by developers in the near future I will gladly be able to say that I no longer like my ps3, but that I love it.

a sign of things to come
What can you say about a launch that has been full of disasters and criticism?? I for one ask the question "is there any saving grace in said disaster?" the answer to that is luckily yes. Resistance fall of man does for the ps3 what other titles have done for consoles at launch and that is give us one good game among a pile of crap. The game starts off by being just another fps, all that ends however when you find your first chimera weapon the bullseye. This game's brilliance is in blending classic fps shooter controls, great graphics with simply awesome weapons. Seems everytime you think you've mastered a weapon a new one is thrown into the mix allowing you to change strategies at just the right time. The best part of all these weapons is the timing and the spacing in which they're provided. You're never given two weapons at the same time and usually you have the perfect amont of time to learn to use it and not only that, but they all remain useful through out the whole game which is a treat for any fps or any shooter for that matter from the m2 carabine you start out with to the unstoppable(literally) auger you'll always need every weapon at your disposal to dispose of the chimera. Speaking of the chimera they make the game a treat as well. From the way they react against you by using cover team tactics or straight out rushing you when the need arises they're never predictable and never too easy to defeat or frustrating enough to make you throw the towel. This game uses a near perfect mix of lone tunnel/cave missions and open battles with AI npcs to get you through, even a survival horror-esque level is thrown in to creep you out. The story line although a bit corny is delivered well and the voice acting is good enough to make want to know more about the goings on of the main character, my only dissapointments were the end and the fact that the main character lacks that...character, with no voice and a "strong, silent type" personality that I think was a bit over done it kinda made me feel like I wouldn't get as clode as I have in the past(sephiroth you bastard you took aeris from me). Over all resistance is a well done and well executed game that is a lot deeper and unique than it's first few minutes would lead you to believe. Even though the graphics are not as impressive as they can be in suck a powerful system, it still kicks ass in hd, over all I would say it's definitely a must play in this launch and even a year after launch definitely a 5.0 from me
