stab stab stab
i lourved the first manhunt--between the ultraviolence and the unique "director" antagonist, the game oozed just as much as it did blood. now comes a neutered sequel, with "censored" finishing moves and a much less compelling storyline. the only added benefit is using the wii remote to perform executions, which adds another sinister layer to murdering in cold blood.

go ninja go ninja go
from what i've heard, Ninja Gaiden 2 is total pants. fortunately, there was a Gaiden game released this year that managed to exceed expectations. Ninja Gaiden DS looks great for a handheld game, and the controls make perfect use of the portable's unique features. It's a shame Itagaki's gone, since I could use another chapter (or eight) of Ryu's portable adventures.

better than tae bo
For folks who want to get serious about working out but don't need to see naked old men at the gym, I suggest picking up Wii Fit. For $90, you get another well-designed Nintendo controller, a weighing scale more accurate and eye-catching than the one in your bathroom, as well as a pretty nifty game. The yoga and strength games work well as a starter workout or a supplement to a more rigorous training program. The balance and rhythm minigames are fun to play with friends over as you try to top each others' scores. Wii Fit is a gleeful hit.

aw rats
remember when disney cartoons used to turn into kickass platformers like aladdin on snes and mickey mouse on the genesis? now, every new movie comes with the expectation that it'll be a paint-by-numbers platfomer. ratatouille is not just an average platformer, it's a pretty difficult one at that, which alienates the 10-and-under set that probably bought this game.

like mario tennis was any goddamn better
seriously. sega has some cool characters, and this game is based off the downright decent virtua tennis engine. and the characters are way better-- beat from jet grind radio or waluigi... not really a tough choice there.
