Mirror's Edge - Xbox 360

Pros Cons
Intense action Poor storytelling
Addictive gameplay
Tight controls
Innovative concepts
Falls just short of amazing...

Mirror's Edge did something that has been done before with verying degrees of success: putting a modern spin on a classic idea. At first, I didn't think it would be a good idea to create a platforming game in first person because it seemed to me that the fluidity with which the game flows would contrast with the first person viewpoint. However, I have to say that in the end it worked out very nicely. For most of the game you have this sense of flow that can't be found in most games. However, one thing that frustrated me was the fighting. Contrary to what I wanted in other first person games, I didn't want epic shootouts because they stifle the flow of the game. One other flaw that I found with the game was that the story left a lot to be desired. It's not that the story was bad, but that it felt, at times, quite generic. Other than these small issues, I would have to say that this game is without a doubt one that should be enjoyed by everybody. Don't rent, just go out and buy it.

Saints Row - Xbox 360

Pure Awesome.

I jut bought this game because I was tired of the everyday military shooter. The graphics were on par with opther games. They weren't over the top, but for the size of the environment, they were pretty good. The controls were awesome. While driving, the player can shoot 360 degrees around the car, not just left or right like in GTA. The only thing that I found a little annoying about them was the inability to change the active weapon while on the run. The gameplay was great. It was pretty much GTA but with a LOT more things to do. Even after the main story is completed, there are still countless hours of side missions and three bonus story missions! The only thing I found that let me down was the lack of boats or choppers. The story was cinematic as hell. Playing this game, I thoguht "Holy crap, I could be in a gangster movie." It has comedy, drama, a truck load of action, and so much more that can't be described in this review. Replay value is a little on the low side, unfortunately. While playing some of the side missions again might be fun, I found that I couldn't even get through the main story a second time, let alone a third or fourth. But if you just want to shoot people and steal cars senselessly then it's good for a quick play now and again. Overall, you should definitely play this game. Buy it, don't rent it.

Star Wars: Battlefront - PS2

Bad

So I bought this game cause it looked good enough, and hey, it was like five bucks in Block Buster. Controls 1.00 The controls had to be the best part of this game. At times, in a hot battle situation, they could be a little odd, but they were still pretty good. Graphics/Sound 0.75 The graphics were decent. But I couldn't help but feel somewhat dissapointed at the lack of detail. The graphics were fine, especially for such large maps at the time the game was created, but I felt slightly let down. The sound was really good however. Gameplay 0.75 The gameplay was good. There were times, however, in maps such as the first battle where I found myself wanting a vehicle to get around faster where there were none, and other time like during the battle in Theed where I thought the huge tanks just made an obstacle that didn't need to be there. Also, the battles were all the same. There were objectives, but you didn't have to carry them out to complete the mission, which, although it gave you a sense a freedom, doesn't really mean anything since you don't win the mission if you complete all of the objectives anyway. Also, a few objectives in the game were literally imposiible to complete. Not that they were hard. It just couldn't be done. Story 0.00 I can't give this game any points for story, unfortunattely. This is mainly due to the fact that the game takes place during the Galactic Civil War and the Clone Wars. However, you just play the missions from the movies. No creativity at all. Replayability .50 There really isn't any reason to replay this game. Sorry. Overall 3.00 Ugh. What a huge waste of money. Rent/Buy Rent

Mass Effect - Xbox 360

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

So I rented Mass Efect because I played the company's other game and they were good, but not worth buying. Controls 0.75 The contols were good. Nothing amazing, but good. I did get a little confused a few times when drawing my weapon, however, because about five buttons draw your weapon and do a different action when you draw it, depending on which button you press. That's the only thing I didn't like about the controls. Graphics/Sound 1.00 The graphics on this game were amazing. I could see every little on the people's faces and in the environment. In a conversation or right after you load up an area, however, you may need to wait a few seconds for the graphics to really reach their full potential. The sound was good too. The ships sounded exactly like I think a real intergalactic spaceship would sound. I think. Gameplay 1.00 The game play was amazing, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. There were very short load times. Aside from the good story line, which took me about thirteen hours, there are at least another twelve hours of side missions. Plus the choices that you have to make such as who to let die on your team to save the others. Simply amazing. Story 1.00 This game has an amazing story. I'm not going to ruin the plot and tell you anything about it, but believe me, it's awesome, due in part to the fact that the story can change depending on your action choices in the game. Replayability 1.00 Sure you might beat the game quickly, but then you'll want to get right back into it and try all of the other story choices that you didn't make. It also has a lot of replay value if you plowed through the game on your first time through without doing any of the side quests. Believe me, you'll want to play this game over and over and over. Overall 4.75 This game is awesome, plain and simple. Now we just have to wait and see how Mass Efect 2 is, since we know there's a planned trilogy. Rent/Buy Buy

Indigo Prophecy - Xbox

Pros Cons
Engaging story Repetitive gameplay
Epic boss fights
Intense action
Innovative concepts
Good the first time....

Indigo prophecy isn't your "typical" video game. Think of it more as a Hollywood movie. The story is great the first time through, but because the main story ends up haveing the same ending everytime replay value is virtually non-existant. For a game that is supposed to have multiple branching storylines I was a little surprised that only minor details were changed based upon your choices. Other than that, the game is great, but I wouldn't advise buying it because of the lack of replay value.
