Pretty good for a knockoff
My views: Rock Band [Wii]
Rock Band was huge on the Xbox 360 and PS3 and it's late released Wii counterpart is somewhat degraded by stripped features like online play and create-a-rocker, though gameplay is exactly the same, watered-down graphics aside.
GUITAR
A complete and total knockoff from Guitar Hero. A lot of reviews will kindly say it's "similar" to GH but can you say EXACTLY THE SAME!? Same old green-red-yellow-blue-orange layout with moving fretboard notes. Star power's been replaced by overdrive in Rock Band (activted the same way (rotating the guitar)), and GH's star notes are "special phrases" in RB. wow.
DRUMS
The drums are a lot of fun and the only original layout in the game. Hit 4 pads and stomp the kicker to play. The notes come the same way guitar notes do except in red-yellow-blue-green format, which can get a tad confusing for old GH players. You stomp the kicker when a large orange line crosses the note area to hit the bass (pronounced BASE) drum. Overdrive is activated when you hit the green note at the end of a free stretch.
VOCALS
The format used is extremely similar to the SINGSTAR games where lyrics match up to simplified notes. Overdrive is activated by singing while the strange orange pattern flows over the reticule.
BASS GUITAR
Same as regular guitar except that the keys are much lower on the fretboard and the part is different.
CONCLUSION
Despite the obvious rips from GH, Rock Band is pretty fun, ever more so with friends, though the absence of online content is a shame.
