Sombody strangle that wuss......
All right, we all know why we are playing this game. It's for the FF name. But truth to tell, the game stands on it's own even without the Square or FF names. Sure, they indicate that the games going to most likely be high quality, but let's remember that even Square has had more than it's own share of flops (Driving Emotion Type S), and FFX could have easily fallen into that horrible black pit of crappiness. Thankfully, there was only a little bit of carelessness in the making of this one (hence the 4.5), making it a good, fun, not to mention superb looking RPG. Really, this is the first PS2 RPG worth playing if your part of the mainstream audience, making it all the more satisfactory. However, in my opinion, some aspects of the game, such as the characters (Someone kill that idiot jock Tidus!) really don't measure up to the wonderful PS1 Final Fantasys. Square really set the bar for themselves. On other fronts, the cutscences look especially good, and the prerendered cinemas are much sharper this time. Oh, then there's Rikku. She may be annoying, but she's defintely a babe. For many guys, her presence alone may justify a purchase. In battle, however, the cursor acts like it's had way too many coffees, never acting in a logical way and just letting you select the character you want, leading to many Dualshock throwing experiences. As for sound, thanks to the amazing discovery that DVDs are a gaming media, the character's speak this time around (not a good thing when Tidus opens his mouth!). Most of the characters are well cast, but some sound dull and emotionless (Yuna). The new battle system also feels smooth, but some will lament the loss of the ATB. All in all, FFX is a finely constructed RPG, just don't expect a FFVII type revolution, just prettier graphics. Well, I've got some lightning to dodge, see ya around!

You owe it to yourself, you brave monkey fans
You can't tear me from this game. It's just too good. If you've played any of the previous games in the series, you know what this game's all about. Just stop reading this review and buy it. If you still need convincing, fine. The puzzles are quite thought out, and they do sorta make sense when you finally click to the game. However, you might want to invest in a strategy guide, but don't depend on it too much, most of the fun of the game is from the satisfaction of figuring out a tough puzzle. The controls take a little getting used to, but that's only with the inventory and interaction with objects. Also, save happy gamers may find themselves in a delema as you're often dead if you miss a essential piece of a puzzle. The sound really makes this come alive, perfectly conveying all the humor, as well as the odd- ball character's emotions. After a while you sort of get attached to Guybrush, silly name and all. Then, of course, there's the graphics. Everything, from the prerendered backgrounds and the wonderful character models are great looking. They all perfectly capture the light-hearted feel of the game. So just buy it. If you'll all excuse me now, I have been challenged to some insult armwrestling.
