Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - Xbox

Great graphics, good gameplay, bad replay

Well, Splinter Cell is one of the greatest achievements in video game graphics ever. But hey, we all expected that. Splinter Cell is also a pretty fun game, with cool missions that are extremely challenging. But hey, we expected that too. I also expected that this would be a game that you could play several times over, and have plenty of fun doing it. But that's not the case. Once you beat Splinter Cell, there really isn't much to do with it afterwards. It's fun and all the first time, but there's no draw to playing it again. You do everything possible the first time. My advice to whoever has an XBOX: Buy Splinter Cell, but only if there's another $49.99 game that you want. Play Splinter Cell as soon as you get home. Beat it as soon as possible. Then take it back to the store you got it from, get your money back, and buy that other $50 game you wanted.

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance - PS2

Deadly Alliance-Redifining 3D fighters

My feelings about MK: Deadly Alliance are good and bad. The game, well, it is ALL good. The moves, combos, graphics, fatalities, minigames, and secrets, they are all wonderful pieces of this awesome game. My bad feelings are generated from all of the ignorant reviewers out there who do want to give this game it's due credit. I've seen scores like 6, 7, or 8 out of 10. So far, only GameInformer has recognized the true greatness of MKDA (9.5 out of 10). This is by far and away the most complete fighting game ever created. Sure, we all want there to be two fatalities per fighter, but still, the ones the characters have are pretty sweet. But the excellent combos, the AMAZING blood effects, and a plethora of secrets (over 600!!!) makes this game the best fighter ever, and one of the most addictive games you'll ever play. Shame on you simple-minded magazines for not recognizing greatness.

Turok: Evolution - PS2

Just a flat out bad game

Turok: Evolution is a perfect example of a good concept, character, or idea gone horribly wrong. I don't understand how developers can take such a beloved franchise like Turok and make it this stupid. I was disappointed to the point of feeling sick, and I only played about a half hour before I decided to get my money back. The first Turok was new, visually amazing, smart, and just so much fun. But this game is a brainless, boring, carbon copy of other BAD FPS's on the market, and it has every reason NOT to be. How does this happen? In the last year, some really great game ideas and franchises have just stunk. NCAA March Madness is an incredibly fun concept for a game, but NCAA March Madness from EA Sports was a horrible game. Final Fantasy may be seeing it's final days of glory, because someone decided to exclude it to online play. Now granted, it isn't out yet, but lets be honest, Final Fantasy Online is a turn-off. People want it the way it was. Games like Mario Sunshine and Resident Evil for Gamecube, or Metal Gear Solid 2 for PS2, those games show how a good franchise should be handled. Those developers understand what is expected of them, they remember how cool Metal Gear Solid was, how fun all the Mario games are, and how scary RE is. But the people who made Turok: Evolution seemed to have forgotten that Turok is SUPPOSED to be a smart, ruthless, and fast-paced dino-slasher, not a slow stupid loser.

Starcraft - PC

StarCraft Rules

If you have never been exposed to sunlight, then you may not have heard of StarCraft. But, since most have, then most know what game I'm talking about. StarCraft is easily one of the best PC experiences out there. The gameplay is fun and strategic, the graphics are pretty good even for now, and the storyline is one of the best. There is betrayel, evil, bad decisions that cost lives, heroes, heroines (for a little while), and some of the coolest villians ever thought of. So, if this convinces you to buy StarCraft, then let me now say, buy the Brood War expansion pack too. It adds to the flavor, and produces an ending that leaves you waiting for a StarCraft II. I just hope there will be one. The people at Blizzard sure are taking their dear sweet time.

Max Payne - PC

Coolest PC Game there is

While this game isn't the greatest PC game ever made, it's still the most fun (sorry Half-Life). The games controls, sound, graphics, story, and oh yeah, that little thing called "bullet-time" make this game the coolest PC experience out there. Everyone in their right mind has been wondering where a game based on "The Matrix" has been. Well, this game, while it's not "The Matrix", the feel is almost the exact same. You can slow down time in order to dodge bullets, your character is involved in a situation even he can't explain, and the villians are just as cool and criminal as the "Agents." I bought Max Payne on an absolute whim. Whoo-hoooooo, whatta great whim that turned out to be. If you haven't bought this game, then you're either unemployed or just not right in the head.
