Grand Theft Auto IV - Xbox 360

Pros Cons
Loads of content Poor storytelling
Addictive gameplay Braindead computer AI
Just plain fun
I cannot wait to see what the next GTA is like

GTA IV was bloody amazing. I had a lot of fun with it, even though I only played like 10% of the game (I beat the single-player campaign and never went back to do all the side missions). I thought the storytelling was a little uneven and there were a lot of WTF moments--Niko was always worried about money but damn, at one point I had like 400k saved up--but I still enjoyed my time with it.

Boom Blox - Wii

Pros Cons
Addictive gameplay Ugly visuals
Innovative concepts Unresponsive controls
Fantastic multiplayer
Boom goes the dynamite

I nearly threw my shoulder out playing this game. But man is it fun. There's something awesome about rearing back and launching a virtual fastball at a bunch of Jenga blocks stacked on top of each other. It's pretty satisfying, even if your shoulder aches afterwards.

It's a great game to pull out when friends are over; just make sure you put the wrist strap on or you'll probably end up with a broken tele.

Space Invaders Extreme - PSP

Pros Cons
Amazing visuals Not enough content
Addictive gameplay Repetitive gameplay
A surprisingly good update to a classic arcade title

I popped this in for a few rounds on day while I was bored and you know what? It's actually pretty fun. The visuals are trippy and there are cool weapons to use. It reminded me a lot of the classic Arkanoid. There are even boss fights with huge alien motherships. But seriously, whoever is running the pilot training program for these alien invaders needs to be fired. Teach your students to fly in better patterns, dude. Hire the alien who trained the Galaga guys at least.

Condemned 2: Bloodshot - PS3

Pros Cons
Intense action Annoying audio
Innovative concepts Poor storytelling
An interesting but ultimately flawed horror game

I had a viral infection in my meninges when I played Condemned 2. I was prescribed Vicodain but was told not to take it (thanks for nothing doc) and instead had to survive on Advil. When the aspirin kicked in and my brain didn't feel like it was going to pop out of my skull, I would boot up Condemned 2 and play for a few hours.

I can't say I enjoyed every single minute of the game. The hand to hand combat is awesome as is the first person perspective; I also liked the CSI evidence gathering at crime scenes. But the story is so hokey that I had trouble making sense of it and the gameplay felt really uneven. Camera issues also cut into the game as did some control issues.

Still, it's an interesting game and I found myself wanting to see it through to the end. I'm glad I made the investment in time but it didn't exactly leave a lasting impression. I recommend you give it a rental unless you really liked the first one, at which point, you should probably buy it.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time - DS
