Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge - Xbox

Dog fighting the way it was meant to be played

Crimson Skies plays like a cmoic series from the 1930's. Set in an alternate world where planes rule the sky. Think of Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow. Crimson Skies is XBOXs answer to Rogue Squadron and it comes close to beign jsut as good but falls short only a little. You can choose from one of several planes throughout the game as long as you can unlock them, they are not all apparent as you play through so look carefully. The planes are also upgradeable. Single player story mode plays alogn the same lines as Rogue Squadron does. Where Crimson Skies really shines is multiplayer. The first game to really take adavantage of XBOX Live you can sign in and play several game types. From all out dog fights to capture the flag you can battle several online players. All that salckign is a good match making system. A host is required to create a game and set up the match settings. If a player joins who doesnt have all the new maps or planes downloaded to the hard drive are not prompted to do so.

SSX 3 - Xbox

The one Snow Boarding game to rule them all

SSX3 is the only snow boarding game you will ever need. Tight controls, stunning graphics, customizable characters, hidden items, several play modes. That is just scratchignthe surface of what you can do in SSX3. Choose one of several players and soon your are jumoing out of a helipcopter to race down a mountain. That is how you start the game. After some exploring you are ready to either race, look around, shop for tricks & items, or compete on stunt courses. The controls are easy enough to learn but take some talent to master. SSX3 is about stunts, stunts and more stunts. Each stug you pul off succesfully allows you to gain speed & power allowing you to perform greater stunts. The game is broken up into 3 areas all of which contain plenty of slopes, items. As you work through all the slopes on the first area you then have to race down all the slopes one after the other to unlock the second area. To complete the third and final area you have to race down the entire mountain range which is a half hur race. The last half hour race can be nerve racking. The only glaring omission in the game is the alc of custom soundtracks from the XBOX hard drive. The in game music and sound effects are great. Crank up the surround sound for some THX DTS surround sound and enjoy.

Jade Empire - Xbox

KOTOR 1.5

After the smash hit that was Knights of the Old Republic one would expect Bioware to make a sequel. Which is just what Bioware did in a way. Jade Empire improves on the formula in KOTOR, by including updated graphics, better mini games, more character classes, and unfortunatley more loading times. Once again the gamer can play the game as either good or bad. The descions you make can affect the members that will join your partty, and items you can use. Jade Empire only takes about 20 hours to complete which is good if you want to play though again with another character as either good or bad. On th eother hand the story is not as engrossing as KOTOR was due to the short play time. The live fighting sytem in an RPG adds a good kick to the genre.Your character can upgrade Health, Spirit, or Focus depending on your class. Several attack styles, weapons, & magic give the player plenty of fighting options. Jade Empire's many options adds high replay value. If you are not content to just paly KOTOR 2 buy Jade Empire.

New Super Mario Bros. - DS

Somethign borrwed something new

The New Super Mario Bros is new in a sense that it adds much improved 2d graphics to a twenty year old game classic. At first look New Super Mario Bros looks and plays a lot like the original Super Mario Bros. Whats different is Mario's movement is closer to the N64 Mario movement, he carries momentum with himself and takes a second to really get moving. The graphics are great and the repaly value is close to that of the original. While the advertisemnts may show Mario grow to take up the entire screen it is only featured in a few maps. Most of the time it has to be grabebd at a shop. The rest of the items are pretty weak compared to Super Mario Bros 3. The fire ball is the same and the blue shell turns Mario into a Sonic the hedg Hog character. This game is by no means bad however its nostalgia rubs off pretty easily leavign the gamer to want more depth such as Super Mario Wolrd on the SNES.
