Story is it's saving grace
FF:VII is my favorite game of all time. This is the game that cam next, and it's a good RPG no doubt, but it plays alot slower and is encumbered by an annoyingly over complex junction system that tramples the fun.
Story: Good stuff like always. Squall goes to the Garden Academy where he is training to be a great soldier. During this time, an evil sorceress is out to condense time! Squall gets tangled up in this conflict and he and his companions must put a stop to this evil!
Graphics: A nice upgrade from FF: VII, though, not as fun looking. The game has a boring look, and of course it it highly outdated.
Sound: Amazing music as you would always expect from an FF game.
Gameplay:Her is my big complaint. The game drags on super slow, and to make matters worse, Square decided to create a super complex juntioning system to assign magic and abilities. It ruins the fun. Also, instead of having MP, you have to draw spells from monsters and you just have a numerical representation of those spells. It is very flawed...and leads to the game's downfall.
Overall: The story will keep anyone going, but it isn't nearly as fun a ride as you'd like.

My beloved FFVII
I picked this game up brand new for $10. Then soon after I noticed that it began selling at around $50 - 70. Guess I got lucky, but I'd pay $100 for this game. It's just brilliant. The story consumed me all the way. I never have cared about characters as much I have the FFVII game.
Story: The story is brilliant, Cloud an Ex-Soldier who suffers from memory loss and identity problems joins up with a rebel group called Avalanche to blow up Mako reactors that are sucking the planet dry. This is the fault of an evil corporation named Shinra. Upon blowing up all these reactors, Cloud meets a flower gilr named Areis. She quickly draws him into a world he'd never expect, and a new, much greater evil is introduced in the form of Ex-first class soldier, Sephiroth, who wants to become a god. Together, Cloud and his friends must stop Seph at all costs or the world is doomed.
Graphics: Horrible by today's standards, but I enjoy them. The characters are extremly deformed and blocky, the environments look nice in some places, though, due to them being pre rendered. They do the job.
Sound: FFVII might have the most beautiful theme song ever written. The music is great all throughout.
Gameplay: lots of exploration, random battles, and a turn based system. I like the turn based system in FFVII. It's fast and easy to manage. Not overly complex like some RPG's. It's a breeze to execute attacks, magic, and summons. All around, good old fashioned RPG gameplay.
Overall: A timeless classic. This game has touched me and I will never forget it.

Shame
Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 3 are good games, but this game just tarnishes the very DMC name. It shouldn't have even been made. The first one was brilliant fun, but lacked almost any kind of story. It was still a well loved game and had tons of great action and awesome boss fights.
Story: It's some crappy story about a business man named Arius who wants to possess demon like powers and Dante is called to stop him. It's a really cheesy plot that is comepletly forgettable.
Graphics: It almost seems as if the graphic quality dropped. Dante and Lucia look good, but the enemies have a noticible drop in polygons. The environments can be pretty drab in outdoor areas as well. Just not too good...
Sound: DMC does have a decent gothic/heavy metal soundtrack. It may be the best aspect of the game actually, considering this game is horrible.
Gameplay: very similar to DMC one, with a few new fancy " moves thrown in. It's a cool for a few minutes I guess. The enemies are alot more boring than in the previous one, making fighting them not too much fun and the bosses aren't as intriguing either. Dante and Lucia do control well though. O ya, Lucia haha. She isn't too fun to play as, and you end up wishing she didn't exist.
Overall: a pathetic effort, this game should have never been made. I bought it because I liked DMC, but it was a bad idea on my part.

Formula is growing weak
Maybe I'm bias, cause I've never been much for 3-D fighters, but I like Dead or Alive on the original xbox, so I gave this one a shot. It's a decent fighter, to be sure, but the fun only lasts for a few days.
Story:Eh, it's a fighting game, it's really just a branch of mini stories between each fighter.
Graphics: I guess they are good for a launch game, but Tekken and Virtua Fighter blow it out the water. Character models are pretty decent, but hair is oddly stiff. The environments are nice and detailed though.
Sounds: I found it annoying that all dialogue was in Japanese. Even the Americans talk Japanese! They should have at least varied it up a little. Other than that, there's not alot going on other than the sounds of fists and kicks hit bodies.
Gameplay: It's a 3d fighter with alot of emphasis on grappling and special moves. Some of these moves can be tricky to pull off, but are a lot of fun once you figure them out. The CPU's are suprisingly tough! Even on normal they can beat you down if you don't know what you are doing. It's a good challenge, but unless you have someone to play multiplayer with alot, it gets old fast.
Overall: It's not a bad fighter, but you should save your money for something better.
