Halo 2 - Xbox

Multiplayer a huge factor for me...

It all depends on multiplayer. I gave it a 4.5 to be between 4 and 5. Actually, I would rate multiplayer as 6.0, despite the fact that the arrogance of the really good players is off the wall. I would give it 4 for the campaign aspect of the game. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the game, but it borders on ordinary for campaigning. Too slow, too few things to do, and too little happening. The control, though, is unique, due to Microsoft's double analog control. A shooter was made for this. I'm not sure about all else, since Halo 2 is the first and only game I own for X Box. Anyway, if you have or will have Live, this game is well-worth your money. Remember, 6.0 for multiplayer!

Mortal Kombat: Deception - PS2

Kinda worth it for the fans of MK1, if you buy the Kollector's Edition...

The movements for this game are really weird. Jumps are very gradual and slow. It looks like they tried to combine the new 3-D format of MK with a little more realism and fluidity, but to me it just isn't right. I appreciate Deception a lot more now. There was a lot of skepticism, especially on my part, but the present sees me still with my Greatest Hits copy of Deception, and only the remake of MK1 and the Sub Zero card left of when I bought Deadly Alliance. Yes, I resold it. The game is huge with a lot of extras, and Sub Zero is cooler with a mask. Still, the control is awful. They even took out Scorpion's awesome R1 swordswipe. I found myself spending more time in nostalgic bliss with the MK1 disc.

Metroid Prime - GameCube

A late review, but fitting w/the release of part 2...

Well, I read about mediocre graphics. When I bought this game I disagreed, but agree now. Really, a shooter MUST have good graphics. You may not realize it, but it tightens the neurological connections in your head when a game is recognizably in first-person perspective, but where scenery is hard to distinguish. In real life, you'd need serious eye exam. You literally have to go right up to something to see if it's a bush or an entryway. Then too (and it could just be me), I got a little motion-sick after just a few minutes. Again, the graphics may be to blame. I'm afraid this game doesn't even come close to the caliber of Super Metroid, one of my all-time favorites. Sound: 4/4.5 Control: 4 Graphics: 3.5 F/F: 3.5

Jak 3 - PS2

A premature review...

Now, I just bought this game, so let the reader use discernment. Yet, it is already turning out well. The missions/tasks/assignments- whatever you want to call them, occur more frequently now and seem more numerous. Moreover, the difficulty has been turned down, rather than traversing the realm of patience-testing. A race or mission has let up far earlier in the frustration compromise, which, I believe, is good. I don't think you should ride the patience of a kid to the limit, especially when they're so close to the TV, have a controller in their hand, and typically the TV is around all other household major electronics. Bad idea. Anyway, so far, everything's a 5. Control is a little loose, but doesn't factor into the fun of it.

Rise to Honor - PS2

Weird to me... 4.0 for the good things, and -1 for the bad...

Surprisingly good for a reinactment of sorts. I mean, we've all been letdown bigtime by Bruce Lee games and such, or movie adaptations that totally stink, but this is pretty original. The controls are weird, and based on rhythm. You simply tap the analog stick in the direction of the enemies and Jet does his own fluid Kung Fu. The more fluid the tapping, the more graceful the movements. So if you're surrounded, you hit each person in a practical order. Still, it becomes an action button. When it's not for 'hit' it's for 'jump,' or swing your partner 'round and 'round, such as when teaming up with the girl. That was frustratingly hard, and so is the game. I'm stuck on a level.
