The Conduit

Pros Cons
Engaging story Repetitive gameplay
Addictive gameplay Braindead computer AI
Tight controls

Let me start off by saying I own all the systems, PC, MAC Ect. So when it comes to playing games I buy certain games for different systems, and I take the systems for what their worth, nothing more nothing less. Now with that out of the way... The Conduit, I have been following this game for the past two years. What attracted me to this game first of all was High Voltage saying they are doing things with the WII others can't or are to lazy to do. We all know the WII is underpowered compared to the PS3 and 360 but I think High Voltage has done a fantastic job bringing a First Class, First Rate FPS to the WII System. The Controls as all of you know by now is completely customizable, you WILL find the perfect control scheme if you try, SHOOT it took me an Hour, but after I got the Controls down, it was on. Also for a WII game the graphics are easy on the eyes and nice to look at not reveloutionary by Nex Gen standards but nice for a WII game(and I take the systems for what their worth, nothing more nothing less). Story could have been a little more involved it felt broken at times but not bad, also the computer A.I. seems to have been left on the drawing board. There were times I ran through a door and completely mowed down the whole room and their movements were memorizable, so I peep out their pattern . But as far as that an outstanding WII game I think WII owners need this game in their Lib.

The best FPS on the Wii.

Pros Cons
Amazing visuals Poor storytelling
Intense action
Tight controls
Fantastic multiplayer

It's always been a mystery as to why the FPS genre is severely lacking on the Wii. The controls would be suitable, online wouldn't be that bad, and the sales would be pretty good, too. Some companies, like Ubisoft, have tried, but ultimately failed in the end to make a really good shooting game just for Wii. While they're history of games isn't impressive, High Voltage Software was smart enough to realize the lack of shooters on the Wii and gave us this nice-looking FPS.

Unfortunately, The Conduit doesn't bring any thing new to the FPS genre. Like most shooters nowadays, The Conduit is basically a run 'n' gun game. Shoot, run, shoot, then run again. Thankfully, the ASE drives some attention away from the senseless shooting. With it, you can find hidden messages, discover secret passageways, unlock certain doors, and even hack into technology. Some enemies even need to face the power of the ASE in order to be defeated.

While it has it's moments, the story is most of the time dull and uninspiring. The length of the story doesn't help matters, either. You play as Agent Michael Ford, and fight for your life to fend off the alien invasion of Washington D.C. The aliens are known as "The Drudge" by the humans. You also must stop a special group known as the "Trust" from taking over the whole state. The voice acting in the story is actually spot-on. Each voice matches the personality of the characters perfectly. Some of the plot twists are interesting, but the keyword in this sentence is "some".

The design throughout the game doesn't hold much hope either. You'll encounter tons of hallways and rooms with practically nothing in them. The furniture and other stuff in most of the rooms can't even be destroyed or tipped over. The character models are a different story, though. They actually have alot of detail within them, especially The Drudge. Whenever I looked at The Drudge, I kept thinking I was playing a Halo game. Heck, they even sound like the aliens in Halo.

The music throughout the game also has some similarities with the Halo games. Both soundtracks focus on what the level is like, and play to fit the environment. I adored the song from the Multiplayer trailer, so I was disappointed when I didn't hear the full version at all in the game, but I soon forgot about it once I heard the rest of The Conduit's soundtrack.

Now for the The Conduit's strongest point - the controls. The motion controls are excellent, especially since you can control how well they respond. The controller layout is satisfying, too. As with motion controls, you can change the full controller layout to your heart's content. Don't like how you throw grenades? You can fix that. Don't like how you zoom in? You can fix that, too. Whatever you don't like in the controls, you can easily fix without any worries.

Another strong point in The Conduit is the online multiplayer mode. With thirteen different game modes, seven maps, and up to twelve players in one match, one must wonder how someone can't absolutely love the multiplayer mode. The only problem I encountered was that I sometimes got booted from online matches. Other than that, online is an enjoyable experience for any Wii owner.

Compare The Conduit to the rest of the FPS's on any sysyem this generation, and you'll find The Conduit to be just another generic shooter. Compare The Conduit to all of the Wii FPS's, and you've got yourself the best shooting game on the Wii.

Still needs a lot of work

Pros Cons
Fantastic multiplayer Poor storytelling
  Doesn't live up to expectations
  Unresponsive controls

First and foremost: I OWN THE GAME

Now that that's out of the way, I don't see what all the fuss is about The Conduit. It's a barely average fps with an average story, average multiplayer (i HAD to pick "fantastic" cause that was the only choice), and a terrible single player mode and terrible......and i mean TERRIBLE controls. the fully customizable controls are just that, fully customizable; but that doesn't change the fact that using the wii mote as the "pointer" just doesn't work. the default HUMAN controls are the best option, because using the TRUST option is no good and using the DRUDGE option makes the game seem completely broken. I finally decided to use the custom option and my result was basically the same as the HUMAN default.

Aside from the terrible controls, it's really just boring. i completed 42% and just stopped playing the story mode. multiplayer is ok and it actually could be great, but again the controls kill any bit of fun. oh and let's not forget the melee, all i can say about that is wow........

if there was a sensor in the nunchuk and you could just use that to move, it could've been decent.

Nothing Revolutionary But Still an Excellent FPS

Pros Cons
Amazing visuals Poor storytelling
Awesome audio It's boooring
Engaging story Repetitive gameplay
Intense action
Tight controls
Fantastic multiplayer
Just plain fun

(Please note: My actual score for this game is 4.5/5)

The Conduit is a Wii FPS game created specifically to take advantage of the Wii hardware. And the Conduit does excel in doing so in many ways. Although, the online components and the graphics of many Wii games are usually not known to be the best, the Conduit masters these and pushes the Wii console to do more.

Overall, the Conduit is a must buy for those that want a decent Wii FPS. It is nothing revolutionary in the FPS genre but it is an accomplishment. Many parts of the Conduit were deemed impossible but High Voltage Software has done much work to make this game one of a kind. Although the game has done nothing big in its genre, it is the step in the right direction for Wii gaming. If this game sells well, I am sure a sequel will be in development. And hopefully, the sequel can make up for the few deficiencies in the Conduit.

Avoid the 5 stars, its an actual 4.5 out of5

The Conduit, has been hyped by many Wii Fanatics, was the hype well worth the wait? I say yes. The Conduit is an excellent addition to the Wii's Library, and great for those who need a good Online Shooter.

Where does this shine, the story?, the online?, or the controls? Well the story has its moments, the story is good, not great but good. The graphics during the story look great for a 3rd party, but then some of the visuals arent all to great. The online is where all the hours of gameplay will go, you will be playing regional, or worldwide, Ive yet to get on worldwide, but on regional Ive yet to get some lag. And you will be playing your friends, with those DAMN friend codes. Why couldnt any more devs do Gamertags? And yes you will be talking with your friends with WiiSpeak, with Ive yet used. And the controls are great, you can set them at anyway you like, and while in gameplay it reminds me of Metroid Prime 3, which I loved, so this will hit big with you guys. Lets get a little bit more of detail on the Online. You get to pick your own multiplayer model and set there colors, like on Halo 3. And the modes are fun, so there is so much to choose from. and with up to 12 players, you can find some challenge in it. And the areas are nice, but some are big so you should choose wisely with th amount of players your playing with. And the guns are great, many to choose from.

So The Conduit is a solid shooter for the Wii, in where it will remind you of some games. And you will put some hours into the gameplay thanks to Wi-Fi. So I highly recomend this to all Wii Owners.

Haven't heard of it yet? It's The Conduit. Remember it now? Maybe not. Even though it's one of the most hyped games of the summer for the Wii, it still falls shorter than anybody could've hope for. It is an achievement for the Wii, yes. But it's not the first alien sci-fi game, and not the last. But had it been done on the Xbox 360 or PS3, it wouldn't of had a 3/5, and nobody would've been quite so proud of it.

Gameplay- The gameplay has you play as Mr. Ford, an agent hired by The Trust to soften what seems to be a terrorist attack. But then when he reaches his destination, he realizes that some of the people on the governments side suddenly turned against it. Eventually, it's just another alien invasion shooting game that has you running a lot. The story might not be horrible, but it's not new, and the story is told horribly. But the All Seeing Eye does add a little something. You can use it to scan walls for hidden messages and objects, as well as it can show the path to your objective. Though, it's not very rewarding because it only unlocks sometimes bad weapons and concept art that's not very interesting.

How it plays- Overall, The Conduit technically plays badly. The AI is very annoying because it chases you with no mercy. The frame rate often takes drops, and for multiplayer, the servers almost never work properly, as in they can't go without lag and sometimes can't go at all.

Visuals- The visuals aren't very good in The Conduit. What is good is the game's Wii proprietary Quantam3 game engine, which enables tons of effects that almost no game can achieve to show. It's nice and usually works well, but it's driven down by ugly characters and less-than-admirable graphics. It's really disappointing because a little more work would've made the graphics go a long way.

Controls- The controls are fantastic and are probably the best in any game to date. Not only do the motion controls add depth to it, but it's completely customizable in every way. And you can make these changes live while playing the game, and then see them live while playing the game. It adds a lot to the experience, and is probably the strongest thing in this title.

Multiplayer- Yep, The Conduit does have multiplayer. Unfortunately, it's very disappointing. The servers are very unreliable, and the multiplayer can get hectic and confusing. Aside from that, the multiplayer modes are interesting and fun, and really aren't too bad. The best are ASE Football and Bounty Hunter. As for Wii Speak, it is a little limited and is not necessary for the best (yet still horrible) experience ever.

Lasting Appeal- The Conduit is very short. 9 missions all finished within 6-8 hours, what do you do after that? The multiplayer? Maybe. If you can handle lag as well as getting a bad server every so often, then go ahead and play it. You FPS fans with only a Wii will have to get it at some point. But this game is not something that's really worth coming to again and again. Just rent it, or if you bought it, sell it or go for a trade-in, even if you only get the $20 of what you payed.

The Verdict- The Conduit was suppose to be a good game that was revolutionary. It was suppose to be. But many things hold it up from what it could of been. It had a lot of potential, but it falls short in everything except for controls. If it were for the Xbox 360 or PS3, it wouldn't of been different than any other game, so if you own more than a Wii, don't buy it. But if you are a Wii owner desperate for a FPS, go ahead and try it. But I recommend Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 way more.

This site and GameInformer didn't like this game, but i do!

Pros Cons

All flaming and trolling aside, I really don't think the original review for this site gave the conduit a fair shake. I had been very interested by this game from the first screens and concepts I saw. As my user name states, I LOVE NINTENDO! I had been begging and pleading for an FPS on the Wii I could be proud of...this is that FPS.

To start, I did pre-order via GameStop, so before I went in head first, I went into the promotion code menu and put in the codes in the art book for the ASE (all seeing eye) skin and online trust agent skin. On a side note, I was a tad angry when I found while customizing my online character model's look, I couldn't change the color of his tie to match that of my boy agent 47 from the Hitman series. Oh well. That's done and over, now time to submerge myself. One of the best things in this game, I think at least, is the ability to change settings on the fly, and see an immediate difference in the game. My room isn't that big, and I am very picky about the controls of the shooters I play. Speaking of the controls, almost flawless in my opinion. There is, of course, the occasional loss of motion when you try to move too fast, but that's the "beauty" if you will, of motion controls. Didn't really bother me that much. The button layout fits well with the wiimote, needing little effort to access the command you need. Using the "–" button to reload was a bit odd at first, but I got used to it.

Probably my favorite thing about this game were the wide array of weapons to choose from. Human weapons like the good ol' MP5 and the always fun to wield SPAS12 military shotgun, the drudge (attacking alien race) weapons like, my favorite, the strike rifle and the shrieker, and the trust weapons like the deatomizer, just to name a few. To go along with the weapons are your usual array of grenades: flash bang, frag, radiation? Yes, that's right, radiation grenades. This incredibly helpful weapon, will turn your enemy into a smoldering pile of ash in about 5 seconds. It's great. How you use the weapons in this game is another big thing for me. This game has some of the most intense gun action I've seen in a while. If you thought Metroid Prime 3 was intense, you aint seen nothing yet sister. The enemies are smart to boot. Trust agents and drudge alike will hide behind cover and wait for the opportune moment to strike, and if you aren't careful, you're toast.

Graphics. This game puts even Super Mario Galaxy and Prime 3 to shame in the graphics department. There are some glitches here and there, like I was clearing out a drudge hive under the library of congress, and a little midget alien asshole was glitched into the stairs and wouldn't let me pass. I ended up wasting some of my health dropping some grenades on this guy. I was very impressed from the start how this game looked. It really does push the Wii to it's graphical limits. Surprisingly, however, despite the few glitches here and there, the game never causes the system to lag, which says to me building a new engine from the ground up really showed in the final product.

The multiplayer is where this game really shines. I did, of course, run into a few retards that kept insisting on using the saaaaame damn map eeeevery time, and ALWAYS USING FUCKING ROCKETS! I HATE ROCKETS! TRY USING ACTUALL GUNS! AT LEAST I'LL RESPECT YOU MORE IF YOU KILL ME WITH THE SCAR!

The only issue I really have with this game is the voice acting. The commands given to you by whoever is leading you on a mission, can be annoying as hell sometimes. That's really only the bad thing about this game.

When I first got home from work yesterday, yesterday being Thursday June 25, I needed to eat first, seeing as I had not eaten all damn day. So I did that, grabbed the pair of mountain dew 2 liters from the fridge, sat down in front of my tv at about 9:25pm. It wasn't unill 4:30am that I grew tired and eventually passed out in my chair. THIS GAME IS A MUST OWN FOR WII OWNERS, EVEN IF YOU ARE JUST GOING TO DO MULTIPLAYER. This game was well worth the wait, and give me very high hopes and expectations for High Voltage Software's next 2 Wii titles in The Grinder and Gladiator A.D.

Go buy this game people. Look for me on line in a black and green trust agent suit. My handle is, of course, 47. GAME ON!!!!!!

The Conduit Review

Pros Cons
Amazing visuals Poor storytelling

Intense action Repetitive gameplay
Addictive gameplay
Tight controls
Innovative concepts
Fantastic multiplayer
Just plain fun

Single Player: Is not long and you should be able beat it in less than seven hours. I have to admit something though I didn't have much fun with the single player. It was okay but i didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would when I didn't have it. 7/10

Controls: Are perfect because you can customize everything. You can make the dead zone big or small it's all up to you to make your favorite controls. 10/10

Graphics: The graphics are great for a wii game, some people say that they are the best on the Wii, but i disagree with that, i think SSBB and Super Mario Galaxy had better graphics. But they are still great!9.5/10

Multiplayer: The Multiplayer is where this game really shines, it has the three types of modes, TDM, FFA, CTF. There are a variety of weapons from the Drudge, Human, and the Truth. There is also a Character Create system where you pick what color your person is and what he is. There are 5 differant types if you got the limited edition version and there is 4 if you got the regular version. On the front of the box it says there is WiiSpeak compatable with the game, but i can't find out how to talk to my team if you can help me with that, that would be great, cause i don't know if you can only talk to them if you have there friend code.9.75/10

Wow

Pros Cons
Amazing visuals Annoying audio
Tight controls Poor storytelling
  It's boooring
  Braindead computer AI

This game was probably the biggest disappointment in my life right next to Halo 3 which i thought was severely over rated. I wasn't expecting Halo 1 or COD 4 but i was expecting more.
To start off the single player campaign was boring, the AI was boring repetitive and not very fun. The ASE did bring something new to it but didn't make up for the other draw backs. The boss fights I thought were boring and to easy, they weren't intense or challenging. Although I thought the graphics and controls, I really like the fact that you can fully customize your controls, i thought this was a great feature, the default controls were pretty good i just didn't like the grenade being motion controlled. The campaign was also very short and i was expecting this epic boss battle or something and when the game ended i was like...WTF. Thats when my hopes for this game started to wain.
After completing the Single player i went on to play the multiplayer at that point I had some hopes left for this game, but i was wrong.... When i first started playing the multiplayer it took me four minuets to connect to a game and I have cable internet. Also i found that the games can lag a lot. But for the game play there were some positives, for instance ASE foot ball was amusing but this;didn't help my impression of this game. The multiplayer games can be slow and confusing a lot, and every time you die it made the most annoying noise ever and kept getting on my nerves, also the AI voice was annoying when it told you when you were going to re-spawn and stuff like that. Some plus things were the fact you could vote on maps and you could vote on the weapons sets.
By the end of the first two days of playing this game all of my hope had left and I knew that i had been cheated out of $50 of my money and now i am trying to sell this game. When i play this game i feel like i'm playing a watered down version of Golden Eye, but i don't mean that in a good way either. Hopefully people will learn the mistakes of this game and utilize the full potential of the wii and realize that the wii is not just for 8 year old kids and soccer moms. The wii has been making a comeback with games like Mad World, No more Heros, and Punch Out. Hopefully good games like these will become more prevalent on the wii.
I would not recommend that you buys this, I know i regret buying it. If you really want to check it out you should rent it or borrow it from a friend. If you want a good shooter on the wii I would recommend Metroid which has great single player and is one of my favorites, or if you want good multiplayer i would get Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 or even better COD WoW which was fun.
