One great game aside from new super mario bros. IT has a feel of a saturday morning cartoon when playing. The visuals, scenery, details along with a good story and contols make it a great 2D platformer.

It's Wario Time!

Wario is back and better than ever. Good old fashion side scrolling platformer with some pretty great graphics. Gamepro was right on the money when they said it's like playing/watching a cartoon. But that is not a bad thing at all. I think it's unfair to call this a "kids" game. Sure there are some elements of a childrens game here but some of the things that you can find and do are not things that kids are going to try and accomplish. Wario Land: Shake it consists of 5 areas each having 4 or 5 levels each and one boss. Which brings me to my first complaint about this game. It's to short. I was hoping it would be close to the length of Super Paper Mario but it's a lot shorter than that and also easier. It is pretty easy especially if you grew up playing 2D side scrollers. The boss fights are real easy too but I found a couple of them to be pretty fun. Just like Paper Mario you hold the Wii mote on its side, 2 is jump, 1 does a dash attack, when you pick up a coin bag you shake the wii mote to collect the coins, and if you push the Wii mote in a downward motion Wario does this ground pound that can open up certain door, stun enemies, and knock down items that are hanging off the edge. Easy controls, easy to pick up and start playing my only complaint about the controls is when you are controlling this submarine you have to turn the wii mote, like you're playing Mario Kart, to steer and the 1 button shoots missles. Its kind of annoying to steer that thing like you're steering a car and its not very sensitive, you have to crank that thing really far in the direction you want to go, it can get frustrating. I wish you could've just used the D-pad. Any other time you have to aim/steer with the Wii mote it isn't nearly as bad as the submarine is. There's alot more to this game then just getting to the end of each world, fighting a boss and moving on. You have to collect coins, if you don't, then you won't be able to buy the maps for the new areas. Yeah...that's right, in order to progress you have to have enough coins to buy the next area. You can also buy more hearts to increase your health, a potion that will automatically restore all your health when you are out. That's pretty much all you can buy. Aside from just finishing a stage, if you are one of those gamers that just has to have everything completed then this game will seem a lot longer. Each level has 3 hidden treasures, so about 12 or 15 per area. Every level also has certain missions or objectives that you can do. If you are a perfectionist then finding all the treasures and completing all the missions will keep you busy. Some of the missions consist of: Finishing a level without getting hit, not killing any enemies, not jumping in the water, collecting a certain amount of coins, killing a certain enemy, killing a certain number of one enemy...etc. Once you've reached the end of a level you have to run back to the beginning of the level before time runs out. Most (if not all) of the levels have a mission where you have to get back to the beginning in a certain amount of time. But don't worry, there are plenty of hidden secrets to help you get back real quick. If you are a fan of 2D side scrollers/adventures then I'd definitely give this game a chance. Even if you're not, I still say give this game a chance. It looks great, it plays real well, it's fun and entertaining. You might even catch yourself saying..WARIO!
