I am a big fan of the first game. It is one of the reasons for my PS3 purchase. This game takes it a step further with the graphics and the massive scale of the boss fights. One drawback is the removal of the "weapons wheel" from the first game. Being a fan of the Ratchet & Clank series, I found this to be a great asset in a FPS. I also think the story was some how shortened or condensed to make room for the massive 60 player online. I enjoyed this game greatly and will be keeping it in my collection forever.

Resistance 2 would have been perfect, if not for a few minor disappointments.
These disappointments were: it was short, the story wasn't great, and they took out campaign cooperative gameplay. Other than this, it was great, it had amazing graphics, it was very detailed (the skin textures on the chimera were amazing, and your bullets left holes, boxes on shelves had labels),there was a very wide variety of enemies, there were creative weapons, such as the auger, which could shoot through walls, the splicer, which shot ricocheting red-hot razor blades at your enemies, severing their limbs, and bullseye, which could shoot a "tag" onto an enemy, and all of your shots would go towards that tag, letting you shoot from behind cover. It also had great bosses, such as the leviathan, a 300 foot tall chimera that throws you through a building and into another, after you fire a few rockets in its mouth, and the cracken, a creature which you fight on a floating platform next to the golden gate bridge. Overall it was a very well done game and it is obvious that a lot of time was put into it.

GREAT Game one of the PS3 finest however I would've like that there would've been more animations on the enemies as they died (specially larger enemies).

This game was nothing short of amazing. It had great visuals. Not only was the skin textures great, there was amazing lighting, good blood and gore and your bullets left holes. It had very epic boss fights, such as the leviathan (a one thousand foot tall chimera) which picks you up and hurls you through a building and into another after you fire a rocket into its mouth, at which point it starts destroying the building you are in, and the cracken, which you fight on a floating platform next to the golden gate bridge. It had creative weapons, such as the bullseye, which you could fire a "tag" which would make all of your bullets seek whatever you hit, the Auger, which can shoot through walls, and the splicer which throws spinning red hot razor blades, which proceed to ricochet of walls and tear the limbs of your enemies.

You could tell that the makers of the game spent a lot of time on the game because of all of the detail in the stages. The shelves were full of labeled cereal boxes and there were posters for movies on the walls. I also liked the variety of enemies. there were the normal chimera, titans, which were chimera of approximately 30 feet, ravagers, which were somewhere between the size of a normal chimera and a titan, the grim, which were basically the zombies of resistance, and a lot of machines. The only disappointing thing about the game was the ending boss fight. The first section was him ripping apart the pods you were in while trying to grab you, but all you had to do here was sit in a corner and then run to the other corner and he couldn't get you. Then, when you actually got to fight him it was way to easy. You just had to run away until he was next to some electrical thing and shoot it so it would electrocute him and then repeat that about three times.

But wait, there's more...

Resistance 2 is the game that just keeps on giving; from a meaty single player (though the storytelling is hit and miss), to a great competitive mode, to the most brilliant co-op mode ever conceived Resistance to just never stops giving you a reason to keep playing.

The single player is the weakest link, though the boss fights are epic in scale and the shooting itself is solid the story is poorly told. It gives you a narrow view of the full picture and relies a little TOO much on the "intel packages" and in-game chatter, which means you'll often miss something important (especially when a lot of it happens in the middle of a fire fight). The AI will target you, and ONLY you, even if you aren't shooting them and are behind cover, they will ignore the friendly AI and just wait for you to peak out. The graphics can also be uneven, ranging from amazing to PS1 horrible, and sometimes levels that have been under complete assault from the Chimera will be surprisingly clean - the Chicago level is the perfect example.

Luckily the versus and co-op are great and make up for all of the short comings of the single player. In fact, had the game launched with just the co-op it really would have been enough. Both modes are expertly balanced and have things called Berserker's that, when your meter is full, release a unique special power, be it more damaging rounds to being able to turn invisible. Versus unique Skirmish mode forces teams to work together to achieve an ever changing goal (defend this point, get here first, etc.) though these objectives aren't very varied its hard to notice when you're running up a hill to a point only to see the enemy team coming up the opposite side and know that if you don't make it there first you will be slaughtered.

Now the co-op, and arguably, the best part of the game. You work with seven other players to complete a series of objectives on maps based (for the most part) on the single player campaign. And these aren't cookie-cutter copies opened up wider for multiplayer, these are fully realized original maps that make the co-op a delight to play. You have three classes to choose from (solider - damage sponge, spec-ops - glass cannon, and medic - medic) and each must work in harmony to survive the challenges ahead. It truly is gaming nirvana; each map is full of enemies, weak to uber powerful and the objectives are constantly being mixed up - so you may do something one way one playthrough and do it completely differently the next. Each class is incredibly fun to play and you will want to constantly switch what class you're playing just because the others are so fun.

If you liked the first, you'll love this game. If you just like playing against others, you'll love this game. If you like co-op, you'll want to marry this game. Reistance 2 is a fantastic game with so much value it could cost $100; I highly recommened it to any PS3 shooter fan.

Titans, Leviathan and Chameleons , oh my

Pros Cons
Intense action Poor storytelling

The low down:
The game is fun to play and I am not really a fan of fps (first person shooter), but I have to make an exception to this one. If this game had lean around corners from a covered position, it would have been perfect. Did I say this was a fun game?

The graphics were very good. The alien ships look awesome in the sky and the 300 ft. creature is truly weird looking to say the least. The Chimera, hybrids and others are some very ugly creatures. The battles can be very intense at times.

The game has a way of offering the right weapon at the right time, but in few scenarios, I am not going to say when, you get an abundance to choose from, so choose wisely and if offered a large one, it would be wise to take it. The main idea and best idea is to keep the right two weapons on hand.

If you are tactically impaired (being politically correct), you will reach your demise quite often, so stay on your toes, keep low when possible, and use the environment to your advantage.
Overall
This is a good game for single player. The campaign is highly intense, you might bite the dust a few times, but you'll get through if you are persistent. I recommend it for those looking for a fun fps to play, this is the one. So, strap on your combat boots, lock and load and get ready for some intense action. I give it a 4.5 total rating.

There is so many things done well with this game its hard to sum up in a modestly short review. Graphics are great, story (and ending) are great, weapons and gameplay are great, online is fun and fast paced and...great. I didn't give it a 5 because there is always room for improvement, but a 4 seemed a little unjust. There is so much replay with the multiplayer that THAT alone makes it a good purchase; but the story is also incredibly entertaining and lengthy. I, obviously, have little to say about this sequel that is negative. An excellent rent, and a smart purchase. Warning: if you rent it, you'll likely be shelling out cash for those late fees. Its better just to dump it into the purchase of the game itself.
