Viking is a RPG for the RPG can of gamer. A gamer who likes to play Hrs. on end, cut off the bad guys heads and arms, and likes a hard to play game. I think this game is one of the good ones when you are talking RPGs. All yes and golden axe is a 5/4 VIKING 5/5.

It's late at night were I live so I'll try to keep it short.
Let's get down to the dance now shall we. first off there's the combat. my god can it get repetitive. There is suppose to be a fair amount of moves to learn and hack more limbs off. But there were not so many moves. And if your stuck in a big crowd then your basically kneeling begging for death. Most i have ever been able to take on was about 30. But 30 isn't much when compared to what you have to fight. Sometimes the armies grow so large there's at least a thousand warriors fighting at a time. That's really the only time you can take on any large groups. What i love is if you ever have any buddies, is the can actually kill other dudes. Comes in handy. Combat will get repetitive. But what keeps me coming back is the fact that the army clashes are massive. Then there are the graphics. Pretty well done for the amount of men it has to support at a time. Runs smooth no unruly layers that i have noticed. Thankfully for me the controls were always well down. Getting the message correctly. The story absolutely sucks. No depth or anything to drag you into it.I must say it's a fun game at times. But everything about it will get repetitive quickly. So it has good points and a lot of bad points. It deserves a 2/5 stars. I suggest if you don't like heavy hack-and-hack or massive armies clashing don't get this. Burn this thing with holy water. And for those that do care for hack-and-hack, clashing armies, then get this and say 'Eat my axe'. Enjoy :)

I have mixed feelings about this game. I did like the concept and the feel of the game, the story line wasn't too bad, but i hated the fighting system. When a larger group started to attack the main character, he became horrible. Would have been MUCH better if the customization was more elaborate. Call me a RPG nerd, but if i can customize the character, it adds much more replay value. I beat Viking once and couldnt bring myself to play it again X'(

Viking is kind of a game that if you don't spend much time with it you'll hate it. You really have to get to the second map to appreciate the gameplay. If anyone played Double Dragon on the NES or River City Ransom you'll remember having to earn or buy your new moves and Viking takes that concept with arenas you use to buy better fighting moves. It's like Golden Axe 3-D with minor RPG elements. I enjoyed the game but after beating it, I don't see a reason to return for another go at it so the replay value is low for me. One question that bugs me though, Why does water kill me? Vikings don't swim I guess.
The graphics are great and the maps are large to navigate through without loading screens which is really nice. The enemies and your army of Vikings are very limited so you'll see a ton of the same characters over and over but the graphic fatalities add a little to make it okay.
The thick and juicy sound track rocks. It's a lot like the Lord of the Rings type stuff and the swords and axes meeting bone sound great. I also recommend Manowar for custom soundtracks. They sing about Conan and Vikings most of the time anyway if you need metal with your combat.
Overall it was fun but I can't really see spending 60 bucks on it. It could have been a little more fun with Online Multiplayer...like Golden Axe on XBLA. Oh well. I still love the Viking mythology and will enjoy the weekend or so you spend with it.
