Just WOW

Pros Cons
Addictive gameplay
Tight controls
Just plain fun

Just to start off, you will lose more sleep playing this game than any other game than I have ever played at least. You can do whatever you want any time you want in this game. Most free roam games may have free roam, but the game is not based around it. games like bioshock. dont get me wrong bioshock is amazing, but you never get that free roam feel, even though it has an open world. If you are contemplating on whether or not to get this game, just get it... you will not be disappointed. trust me. this is my favorate game of all time.

Fallout 3, in my opinion, surpassed its expectations by far. It proved its worth with an astounding storyline, hours and hours of gameplay, and hell, it was just one hell of a game. Now, I`m a big fan of Fallout 1 and 2, and when I heard Fallout 3 was an FPS RPG game, I thought it would have sucked. Bad. However, the game proved that Bethesda can turn anything they touch to gold. The controls were great, along with the music, story, and almost every other thing in the game. The story involves the character from Vault 101 searching for his or her father who escaped the vault in search of.... Something !no spoilers!. The game can take hours upon end to complete, as long as you don't just do the main quest. However, the game does have its faults. Firstly, the graphics are just, okay, and secondly, the game, like Oblivion, has an abundance of glitches, though not near as much as Oblivion. Lastly, the third-person view really sucks, and it is far inferior to the first-person view. Those are just minor flaws, though, graphics don't make a good game, every game has glitches, and you don't need the third-person view. This game really is a masterpiece, and although I liked Oblivion better, this game is still a wonderful experience, and I would recommend it to anyone who has a good computer, PS3, or Xbox 360.

I have played the original fallout, for a mere 15 minutes... i didn't enjoy it at all, i couldn't understand why i had to use AP to move, or fire a round at an enemy, as it sat there biting me... so i was a little discouraged from Fallout3... But after hearing nothing but high praise from those who played it, i decided i should have a go at it... and this is what i thought about fallout 3...

Firstly, i installed the game on my 360 in order to prevent any read disc errors, which before sending it in, my 360 was prone to doing...

Anyway, the game has gorgeous graphics and amazing physics... although it does get a little carried away with the head shots... i mean there is no way a mans spinal column would be forced out of his body by a 10mm pistol... but it does make the head shots worth watching, so i can see why they put it in...

The sound quality has never really meant anything to me, as long as it doesn't sound like something from the NES or SNES era im alright, so lets just skip tht...

The controls, are very easy to become comfortable with... especially if you are already used to playing FPS games... the game does allow you to hot key your items, but since you can tap B and bring up your inventory at any point in the game, without being attacked, i saw no point in using the hot keys...

the storyline is interesting, but the main story only makes up about 1/10th of the game... probably less... but there are so many side quests and different places to explore and find, that the main quest isn't even necessary to have fun... just like oblivion, you can log hours upon hours just exploring the country side...

but unlike oblivion, you never encounter a load screen while exploring the wastes... which is something i particularly enjoyed... in Oblivion you would hit a loading screen every acre or so, in fallout, the only time i find load screens is when i go inside or outside a building or structure... this makes exploring much more enjoyable and worth while...

My only complaint about the game, the level cap is 20, when you hit level 20 you can no longer gain any more levels... i personally love making my chracter invincible by maxing out all of his skills, but by the end of the 20 levels, you can take on pretty much anyone so it doesnt really effect the gameplay much...

Fallout 3 is a Great game, and a must own for anyone who enjoys a good RPG, with great graphics, and hundreds of places to explore, the game is definitely worth the 60 bucks....

If you liked Elder Scrolls and / or Mass Effect, this game is for you. The game gets better as you progress through the main story and there are hours of gameplay to be had. The controlls are tight and VATS is a very enjoyable new concept in combat. I cannot say enough about this game except get it. You must have this game if you are a fan of the rpg/fantasy/fps genre. Loved it.

I myself love this game, up until i got x-box live i never would have touched a game like this with a 10ft pole. But i have changed my mind! This game is amazing, however there is one big drawback for me and that is there is no online multiplayer...at all. But over all i love it :)

It's no Oblivion!

This was the biggest waste of 60 dollars I've ever spent. The side quests are herendously boring and stupid. The visuals are horrible. The repetetiveness of buildings is ridicolous. I'm over all dissapointed with Bathesda. After making Morrowind, and Oblivion, two outstanding games, then they produce this garbage?! I just do not see the fun in this game. Graphically it looks like a Sega Dreamcast could handle this game. The useage of the "Range" weapons is the worst controls I've ever seen in my life. What's up with the difficulty on this as well? Those fire ants, are a littly fierry for me!

Like Oblivion Meets The Road

Pros Cons
Engaging story
Loads of content
Intense action
Just plain fun

I'm totally and completely enthralled with Fallout 3. The game's setup, which rolls your character using childhood development as a metaphor is the first inkling that this post-apocalyptic role-playing game is in that rare realm of genius.

I've played for almost 15 hours already and still haven't left the first city area of MegaTon. Like Oblivion, the game is open-ended, but it seems like there are more creative triggers for the missions. In one instance, I found this kid running around a supermarket. I talked to him and ended up tapping into a cool mission fighting giant fire-breathing ants in destroyed town.

Combat is fantastic - the turn-based VATS system works really well in conjunction with straight shooter mode. I find myself attempting to snipe from long range and then closing in, and switching to my shotgun or assault rifle to finish things off. There is nothing more gratifying than a successful head shot that decapitates the victim, that's for sure.

On the downside, the dialogue feels a little forced and, much like Oblivion, the choices between good and evil feel fairly forced. That said, the first big decision - whether or not to detonate a nuke in inside of MegaTon - is interesting.

All said, this is an awesome awesome game. I find myself marveling at the game world - it's amazing and creepy to be moving around a fully nuked Washington DC.

Did someone say Oblivion with guns?

Pros Cons
Awesome audio Lousy camera/viewpoint
Engaging story
Addictive gameplay

It is impossible for me to review this game without the inevitable comparisons to Oblivion. To answer the question....Yes Fallout 3 is a lot like "Oblivion with guns", but in my opinion it is so much more. I can also say that if you really liked Oblivion, then you will find many of the same game play elements here. You still have branching conversations, and very familiar controls that are near identical to Oblivion. You retain the Lock picking skill although the mini-game is a bit more accessible. You can still repair your gear and even have the ability to craft new more powerful weapons using all the junk items you find in the Wasteland.

Where Fallout 3 really separates itself is in it's personality, and the awesome new V.A.T.S system. V.A.T.S is what sets the combat apart, and gives you the opportunity to make strategic choices in an otherwise Real-Time battlefield. Using V.A.T.S, you can target specific body parts in order to cripple Raiders, Ghouls, or some other irradiated horror. By crippling their legs they can't run away, cripple their arms to make them drop their weapon, or cripple their head to mess up their vision. There is nothing quite like watching someone get their arms shot off (with all the blood and gore) in slow-mo.

The story is quite compelling, and is set in the Wastelands of Washington D.C. (which have never looked better). There are side quests aplenty, and the storyline will take several twists and turns along the way. The side quests are particularly interesting as they give you a better look at the world of Fallout, and often don't play out the way you expect them to. There are plenty of moral choices to make, which will affect your Karma rating. But whether you're a Saint or a Sinner, you will find plenty of difficult choices throughout the game.

The graphics are very nice and portray a beautifully ruined world just seeping with radiation. The characters look decent although the animations can sometimes be wonky. As long as you play in the first person perspective, it won't bother you too much. The audio is an area where Bethesda really did their work. While the voice actors are quite good (a lot of familiar voices from Oblivion), the music is what will stick with you. The world of Fallout is sort of stuck in the 1950's and the music on GNR radio will reflect that. While I don't know any of the songs by name, or even who performs them. I feel like Bethesda made a really good design choice by including them. It gives the game a very surreal atmosphere when your humming along to a bee bopping tune from yesteryear while blasting Raiders to smithereens in a radioactive wasteland.

Bottom line: if you enjoyed Oblivion, you will probably love this, and will come to find more of the same. But you will stay for the compelling combat, and to explore the strange wastelands of Washington D.C.
