You have to be crazy not to buy this game. It is the best 360 game i played! The ragdoll physics engine make the bails more enjoyable to watch than Tony Hawk. The flick-it controls is a great way to make skaters (like myself) to fell more like they are skating. I wish it had more than 1 place though. The character custimization is great, and it is funny. The graphics are amazing like the gameplay.

I waited for skate. to come out after I read about it in Skateboarder magazine about 5 months before it was released. So I went on EA.com to check out the next day and when I read about the control scheme I was very excited to find out that Black Box decided to break away from the old button mashing that is the Tony Hawk Franchise and go for a more realistic feel. So after watching all the videos on YouTube I decided to start saving for this game. And then I read that a demo was going to be released on the Xbox Live Marketplace on August 15. So by the time 8/15 rolled around I signed on XBL and I found nothing. Then on the website and a few other places. That the demo was delayed because the PS3 version wasn't working and the 360 users need to wait to. That was one of my only complaints about this game. But then on Sept 14 the game was finally released and I beat it in about 8 1/2 hours which was the best time I spent on a game since Halo 2. But there a few technical problems but those were overshadowed by the feel of accomplishment you get after finishing a hard challenge. Then when I played a few online games I feel in love with playing games of SKATE online. Plus the video editor is very well done. I didn't think anything could top it in a sport/sim game. Then when Tony Hawk's Proving Ground came out I rented it. I and must say that game was decent. And they only way THPG was better than skate. is the video editor which superior in many ways buit skate. is still in my opinion much better in almost every way. Which is why I give a 4.75 out of 5
My First Review-Skate

Alright this is my first review on the game Skate. This was a highly anticipated game for me being the Tony Hawk series seemed to becoming more and more bland as time went on and didn't really focus on the aspect of true skating anymore. I seen the demo had come up on xbox live downloaded it and could not put it down. Even though it had only one area to skate in at the time the physics were already great and the realization of a true world was there. A couple weeks later I purchased the game and was shocked about the massive world you could skate in. Not much was changed from the world so it was more so like skating an actual city. The controls were very fluent and responsive. The people were amazingly detailed and the way to move up in the ranks of the game was nicely crafted. I give this game a 4.5 shy away from a 5 being the fact that I wish you could at least get off your board. Some challenges required to jump a set of stairs and you could not get off your board to do so you had to take a longer way around. Other then that the game was very impressive and I surely hope for a sequel.

Skate is the most impressive skateboarding game i've seen since THUG.Let me start out with the controls. They were so much fun that i can play the game for hours just pulling off ollies. But it can be a little tricky doing grabs but you'll get it down soon enough. The story is really cool it starts out by you getting hit by a bus!The game is so much more different then any skateboarding game i have ever played. Its so much more realistic then the pulling 30 flips. It feels like you actually skating its amazing. If you like skateboarding games put down Tony Hawks and check out Skate you'll love it.

The graphics are mindblowing it will amaze you how real the city of san vanelona looks the crontrols feel as if u were really the one skateing the crontrols are innavative the fun factor is getting to do sweet footage and uploading it and sharing also the own the spot is amazing beacuse they feel and look real. the bad part is that its harder to 360 flip and 360 inward heelflip and if u were like me the first tricks u could do were shov its but once u get the controls then the possabilities are endless thats why its the hawk killer

Skateboarding in videogames, for years have been justified by THPS, which did the sport no justice. A skateboarder myself, this game brings me as much enjoyment as trying to do an ollie for the first time. Unlike THPS, Skate brings the sport in gaming to a new level, by truly challenging your thumbs. Button combos into getting a 720 christ air are a thing of the past. Skate makes you work to nail that trick, unlike in Tony Hawk, where the over-exaggerated tricks are it's mainstay for success. Skate's look, and feel are crisp, and a great new creative way of integrating skateboarding into videogames. Unfortunately, the only problem I found with the game was the controls, as they are sometimes a bit too tight. Asides from that, Skate is sixty-dollars well spent. Don't miss out on an opportunity for pure fun. Just kick back, relax, and let your thumbs do the talking.
Differant type of skating game

Ok so you are looking for something differant that Tony Hawk? Well Skate it is. The game tries to take a more realistic aproach to this genra of game, making it more like a skating sim than a skating game. The way you control and do tricks with the analog sticks as apposed to using button combos to pull off tricks helps to achieve this. The controls are good though they will take a bit of getting used to, the tutorial helps. Once you get the control system down you will be able to pull of tricks with ease.
The game looks nice, I think it looks better than the Tony Hawk counterpart. The character model is good and the animations are decent. The backgrounds are also done nicely. It isnt the best looking game out there but it is the best looking skating game out there.
The 360 version is clearly the better looking version. On the PS3 you can tell that low res textures have been used in the backgrounds in the distance. It doesnt detract from the gameplay but I expect more from the next gen systems. 360=4.5 PS3=4 Play the demos and check it out. the game is pretty fun.

Tony hawks proving ground is by far a much better skating game. The low angle camera in skate is annoying and whats with the walls jumping during cut scenes does you player have vertigo or something.Bottom line it isnt that fun and if I want to do street fighter move patterns i'll plsy street fighter, this is the only 360 game I only had from gamefly for 24 hours glad I bought proving ground and rented skate
EA Skate. Ultimate Review

Skate succeeds as an unapologetic simulation, offering a fundamentally different take on a subgenre that's been monopolized for ages. Built around utterly convincing physics and animation systems and a unique control scheme that's equal parts challenge and reward, it manages to be realistic without being discouraging and feels completely different from not only the competition, but from anything else out there. Where most games are simplistic enough to let players into the wild after a tutorial, Skate never stops teaching (its own tutorial is simply a brief introduction to the unique controls). The learning curve is steep but rarely unfair, and the game design focuses on encouraging players to learn how to play it and decide how they want to play it. It's a fundamentally new game -- a new type of game, more importantly -- and it can't be separated from its unique mechanics. It's the kind of experience you have to feel and get accustomed to in person to appreciate, and without that luxury in criticism you'll have to settle for a description for now. All character movement is assigned to the left analog stick, recognized primarily through weight shifting and body direction. You use the A and X buttons to push off with your right or left foot to gain momentum (three pushes for maximum speed), and as long as you're moving, you can direct your character. The visual relationship between the skater and how you're controlling him isn't quite what you're used to from third-person games -- due in part to the low-following, skate video-emulating camera -- and it takes a while to become fully accustomed with it. All board control is assigned to the right analog stick, and tricks are performed through dozens of specific flicking motions. A simple ollie requires you to pull down on the stick so that your character ducks slightly, and then flick it quickly upward to make him jump. Ducking down lower results in a higher jump, and all other flip tricks are based off that type of movement. Flick slightly to the right when you jump for a kickflip or flick left for a heelflip; depending on your starting point around the edge of the control stick, where you move it to, and which direction you flick it in, you can pull off dozens of different tricks. A difference of 20 degrees in your starting point can change the trick completely, and it's important to not only recognize that but to make sure your controller is physically up to the task. It's an unfortunate casualty of an innovative system, but having a tight, responsive analog stick makes a noticeable difference in the precision of control. It's especially important for manuals, which are performed by tilting the stick backward or forward slightly to find the center of balance and holding it there. (It's tough to land in a manual, but it's a skill you'll be tested on eventually.)
