Great Potential, Stupid Marketing Mistakes

This version of LotRO:Shadows of Angmar is made by the publisher Codemasters as stated above, and it the main billing and customer service handler for European Customers. Turbine runs the show in the U.S. and Oceania. The game is great and the screenshots prove it. The problem is the companies mistakes as the bring the game closer and closer to launch. I have been beta testing this game since January of this year and it is by far the most visually stunning out of all the MMO's I've played. Everything about this game has mass potential to probably outdo WoW. Thing is, I'll be shocked if the game makes it off the shelves. The problem is that Turbine and Codemasters have seperated Europe from the U.S. and Oceania. There are two different versions of the game. One run by turbine in the U.S. and the European one by Codemasters. Normally that's not an issue, players can choose whatever version they would want. With these two companies, that is simply NOT how it works. If you live in Europe you will NOT be allowed to play on U.S. Server if you wanted to and Vice Versa. IP addresses and billing information is checked for a region and blocked from playing on a server that is not in your region. This was announced just a few days ago when thousands of beta testers were excited to pre-order. The official announcement can be found at this link:http://beta.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=30141 Personally, this was a dumb move by bother Turbine and Codemasters. And Codemasters already has a track record for ruining good MMO's so it's no surprise to me. This decision will lose the interest of many players including me. An online game is played because it defies the borders that have been set by the leaders of our countries. Nothing is more exciting that talking to someone halfway across the world. And with this decision, Turbine and Codemasters not only ruin the Online Gaming experience, they prove the "Monkey see, Monkey Do" theory. Based on sources I have, WoW had also tried to segregate their players. However they have no changed it to allow the servers to be played from anywhere in the world. The fact that Turbine is trying to follow in the shadow of WoW is stupidity in its purest. No one wants to play the same game by a different name! Games like that are a dime a dozen. What makes a great game is originality and the proper game mechanics and environments. Overall, I think that LotRO:Shadows of Angmar should be taken with a "wait and see approach". I used to have a pre-order, but in light of this new announcement made, I cancelled it. It's not worth the money to pre-order.
