There are more installments in the Dragon Ball Z Budokai series than Lindsey Lohan has bad ideas. In other words, the Dragon Ball Z games come out basically every other year, and unless there are major changes to the fighting game, there really won't be much to go to. The Budokai series has always had slick, and well detailed cel shaded graphics, a wide varieties of moves, counter attacks and special attacks, and very fast paced action. All that comes into play in Budokai Tenkaichi 2, but after so many Dragon Ball games, what changes have come to the table? The graphics have received a slight oomph from before. The characters' facial expressions during battle are subtle, but nice, and after rigorous bouts, you may notice your character's clothes all tattered. The audio is typical, with the same voice actors from the animated series, and many Dragon Ball Z-esque tracks. The game play is as fast paced as ever, but has a few tweaks here and there. After getting past the learning curve, however, you'll start to master the mechanics, character's moves, and will be firing Kamehameha waves effortlessly. The story mode is quite long, and goes through the essential sagas of the series, with some movie story lines as well. It drags a bit, but is a method of unlocking new characters and moves. The character roster is huge, with just about every character you could think of. The moves are varied, but with such a roster, repeating attacks are inevitable. There are a good dose of modes to play in as well. The battling mechanics can seem a tad bit unbalanced, especially when fighting certain CPU enemies in the story mode, as it can start to get more cheap than hard. You can fuse items together to unlock characters, battle and switch characters out in tag team fashion, and overall, the game is the fast paced action of Dragon Ball Z we all know and love. Yes, the games are mainly geared towards fans of the series, but unless your power level is over 9000, this game should be more than enough for you.

Pros Cons
Loads of content Repetitive gameplay
Just plain fun

Not much to say really, if you're not a fan of Dragonball Z then you might as well skip this review. If you are a fan then damn, there's a ass load of fighters to choose from. Problem is, they all play the same just with different attacks. Since it's Dragonball Z, you can forget about a balanced fighting game, as characters like Broly will make everyone one below him in power will be his bitch for life. Despite the lack of depth in gameplay (most battles are won by me just spamming assholes with energy attacks), it is made up for in content. The one player mode is pretty long as it covers not only the Dragonball Z sagas, but most of the movies (except the first two) and GT. Other than that, it's the same old, same old and there's only so many times I'm willing to play through a story line I know like the back of my hand. Bottom line: if you're a fan like myself, then you'll have a great time, just don't expect something new. (P.S. If you go by the original Japanese dub Goku's power level is over 8,000.)

Blast Off

Fun. Very fun. Very enjoyable, blasting away with your favorite characters at the opponents you've been seeing on TV for years.

What a fighting game should be, with half naked men and pointy yellow hair.

Alright, I first have to admit that I am a fan of the DBZ series, so I'll try and keep this unbiased. I bought this game on a whim, after playing the last few DBZ games, I was abit afraid of what I spent my money on. Starting it up, I noticed the rather nice opening (Which I've seen in every Dragon Ball Z game for the PS2). I skip the tutorial, and hop straight into the Dragonball Adventure, which is a very well done thing, going back to the idea of the original Dragonball Z Budokai. You select the saga, and you play scenarios out. First thing I notice, the very well done voice overs, and the rather impressive graphics for a PS2 game. I then notice the new perspective on the game, where the camera is overlooking the shoulder. This is a great step up for the DBZ series to me. I wont go into every detail on the Dragonball Adventure, all you need to know is that it covers every single saga and mini-saga, movie, and special. It has all the characters you could ever wish to play. (I beat Vegeta with Yajirobe!). Then there is the Mortal Kombat type challenge mode, where you fight up a ladder of opponents. It's based off opponents the certain character's path you choice. You start off with Kakarot (Goku) and work you're way around to various Dragonball Z Characters. Then there is the tournament mode, which is always fun finding out which odd character you'd face. Overall, DBZ Budokai: Tenkaichi 2 is by far the best fighter I have played for the PS2, and it does great justice to the Dragonball series. -Crim

a good review

Dragonball z a good anime/game series that quickly went trough the roof, but many people have a dislike for the series but for every person that doesn't like the series there are hundreds that do.With the newest game budokai tenkaichi 2 out the ratings have soared and as me bieng a fan of course i bought the game and thought it was great for all you that have never played the game here is some info there are over 120 playable characters and a very awsome story mode that is detailed to the bone unlike the first budokai tenkaichi it doesn't skip around and leave lots of things it also features the classic world tournement novice, adept, and advanced for all you that don't have the game mabye you should find a friend that has it or go out and and buy it at Walmart it is currently going for $39.99. And you can't afford it go and rent it at you nearest video store. Well thats all I have for ya this time until next time goodbye.

DBZ is back

DBZBT2 is a new dbz fighting game for the ps2. It has been assumed by all dbz fans including me, that it is the best dbz game. I agree. It has 123 characters and they are all great. The story mode is lengthy. It goes from the saiyan saga to the end of DBGT. It takes a long time. There are also dueling, training, and tournament modes. U can have tag team battles. This is by far the best dbz game. But the controls are a bit confusing. Also the dialouge is lame in story mode but voices are fun. There is every single attack for every player. Like gokus kamehameha. They all look good. This is by far the besst dbz game everrrrrrr. But i hope the next one will correct the dialouge and controls. I give it a 4.25 for coming close.

Tenkaichi 2

This game does a good job of giving the DBZ feel, but I'm just not comfortable with the 3rd person fighting, especially multiplayer. The graphics are a welcome fit for anime, but the controls and gameplay are where the game goes wrong. Maneuvering your character around a 3-D area while trying to fight is cumbersome and the camera doesn't work all too well. The developers should've just stayed with the traditional view. The game does have some good points though: the unlockable characters, customization, and sound. In the end, if you love DBZ you can get it, but otherwise stick with Budokai 3 or another fighting game.
