The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the Nintendo DS had stirred up a bit of insecurity among fans when it was first announced. Questions were asked. Questions like, ''Touch screen only? How will the graphics look? Is is a sequel to Wind Waker, or is it stand alone? Mom, can we go home now?'' Well. I shall answer those questions, and provide some insight on this fantastic package. Yes, the game is essentially a touch screen only game. But don't cry, the controls, from my experience, work pretty well, and if you hold the screen properly like you're supposed to, you will find that it is comforting. The graphics are cel shaded, and are pretty good for a DS title. There are cut scenes that show off a little more of the world around you, and there are little details that make the game look really polished and pretty. The sound is what you'd expect from a Zelda game: great. But, like most DS games, I highly suggest using a pair of good headphones to listen in while playing to fully experience the great, lavish music, especially when sailing. Sailing in this game has been changed from Wind Waker, to be a little less tedious. You basically just draw the destination out on your map, and the ship moves automatically. There are some clever puzzles in the game-the concept of drawing notes is emphasized and is well implemented- and the combat stays true to the Zelda formula. The items and enemies you face fit the game, and there are dungeons with cool bosses to defeat. Mini games are scattered all around the place, and collecting treasure is back as well. The game isn't all that long, but hey, a fantastic game like this needs to be played more than once, amirite? Anyway, there is single card and wireless multiplayer which is fun while it lasts, but definitely not a reason why you would by this game. Speaking of buying this game...................go buy this game.

The first time I got this game I though; "Oh, Wind Waker sequel". But after playing this game, I found this game more enjoyable than Wind Waker! The graphics are cut off the same mold that the Wind Waker has been, but the controls are something unique! Link moves around according to where you move the stylus on the screen. Drawing little paths on the map to guide link's ship towards his destination is very innovative. You can even write and draw stuff out on the map so you can remember later on where treasures or people are. The only difficulty I had in the game though was solving some puzzles to advance forward in the game, like trying to solve a riddle that would open up a secret cave or digging in a certain spot to reveal a hole. You must be aware of all these little things and search through every nook & cranny to make it in this game. However, this does not bother me as the gameplay gives you enough patience to find things. The online multiplayer battle is fun and filled with alot of excitement! The music in this game has that special "Zelda charm" that makes it truly worth the experience!
AMAZING!

This is by far one of the best Nintendo DS games that will ever come out. The game has a great story, great combat, great bosses, and a lot of chalenging puzzles. Their are a lot of different parts you can unlock to customize your ship as well as a bunch of unlockable weapons (bombs, boomerangs, etc.). The graphics are similar to Wind Waker, which works great on the DS. The only flaw I saw was the multiplayer. Although it was fun at first, it was very repetetive. BUY IT!

This game is best described as Wind Waker Lite. If you love Zelda and have not purchased this game, please stop reading and go get it now. I'll wait. Ok, you've got it? Good. As I was saying, this game is Zelda through and through; you have the obligatory dungeon-item structure, side quests, and thoroughly engrossing adventure that we have come to know and love, only this time the action is stylus-driven. This is a pretty bold move on Nintendo's part, and for the most part it works flawlessly (you HAVE to try the boomerang "free but there are times when your input isn't detected correctly, although these moments are relatively few. The Phantom Hourglass concept itself is pretty neat, with a central dungeon that you can progressively explore as you gain more "sands," or time in your hourglass. One point of annoyance, though: The Phantoms in the dungeon are invulnerable to attack-a fact that is fairly contrived, and is more of an inconvenience than a clever design feature. In addition, the game is fairly easy, at least in classic "how many times you die" parlance-the puzzles are intelligent, as always, and as with all Zelda games, as you progress you ultimately are rewarded with both that familiar sense of accomplishment and the desperate yearning to play the next installment in the classic franchise.

Alright, this months game is Legend Of Zelda The Phantom Hourglass. What can I say about this game that has not been said about other Zelda games? Almost nothing. Everything you would expect is still there with little additions. They do add puzzles using the mic and stylus. Then that adds another problem. Sometimes you have no idea what to do. Sometimes it will tell you to do something that you would think you would only be doing in the game that involves you to do in real life. (IE Close the DS or scream into the mic.)
With that complaint out of the way it does have some good features like drawing a path for your boomerang. Plus you have a mouse like bomb that you can guide across levels. You can draw a path for you boat but all that rship riding is boring. You will see blue... and blue... and blue.... and then an enemy... and then more blue.
The fighting all involves the stylus so there is no button pressing. You just tap an enemy for a basic attack on them and you swing it around to attack with a spin. And it you finish the side quest you get the swordsman's scroll which makes it so that if you spin a lot you will spin with a very strong attack. The enemies are fun to fight and sometimes need creative ways to beat them.
Something REALLY new in this game is stealth. There are some unbeatable creatures (well until you have the Phantoms Sword) in one part of the game that you must sneak past. Which adds a whole new play type. It adds safe zones so you can escape.
You will encounter a lot of wacky characters who will make you laugh. Just like past LoZ characters. All of this game is fun if you look past the puzzle difficulty. And for anyone who has a DS you should pick this game up

This game couldn't have turned out better. It is by far my favorite DS game. The multiplayer is amazing! You can battle with someone with your same skill level around the world or just in N. America. You can also register friend codes to play with your very best friends. The singleplayer was fun but sometimes left me guessing like most Zelda games do. Also when you are playing battle mode with another person you can exchange items. This game is definetly worth buying.

Where to start with this rendition of Link's great adventures? As a direct sequel of Nintendo's Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, You start off on the high seas when all of a sudden, Tetra, Princess Zelda, is kidnapped by the mysterious Ghost Ship. Most of you should know what happens next! Link's off to save his leading lady.
As soon as you start, you'll notice right away that you are forced into using the DS stylus. Although it's nice to offer the option to the people who'd prefer it, I was pretty turned off by being forced into using it. Taping the touch screen to perform various actions such as picking up pots, attacking enemies, and firing your boats cannon when on the high seas, which leads to another problem I had with the game, Why force the player to play through the sailing sequences? Although navigation is as simple as drawing a path on your map, the whole feature seems more gimmicky then anything else to me.
Now onto why anyone would want this game. It's a Legend of Zelda game, have they ever done you wrongly before? Although the controls are different, this game is the same anyone who has played a few L.o.Z. games would expect, build up your inventory with useful trinkets, explore temples full of puzzles, and fight a few boss battles along the way. The graphics are in a cel-shaded manor. Although this upset many hardcore Zelda fans back when Wind Waker was released, the graphics seem perfect to me for a Nintendo DS game, also, expect the great memorable tunes you've come to expect from the series.
So in the end, even though I honestly don't care for the controls, it's a Legend of Zelda title that comes through for any fan of the series. 4/5
