Let's put it this way for anyone wanting to play a quick game, it's terrible, I mean horribly terrible. I mean thing of the two worst things you wouldn't do ever in your life; and after playing this game those things seem more fesible.

This game was a big disappointment for me. EA claimed to have all the bugs worked out, & that Superman will finally have the gaming respect he deserves. Unfortunately, they were only partially correct. Superman Returns isn't a horrible game...it is just missing some major factors. The story is too short, the AI is not as smart & menacing, & the fighting leaves little to be desired. Upgrading your powers is cool, & racing against that little Mr. M dude is alright. Playing as Bizarro is ok, but you only can only cause destruction for like 2 minutes. Overall, this game will leave you wanting more, a WHOLE lot more.
Great concept, bad representation.

I love sandbox games. I really do, I love the freedom and ability to make the game your own. I also love Superman. So when you throw the 2 together you get a great game? Well... not exactly. The concept for this game was great, but the final product was not. Flight mechanics- great. Fighting- mediocre. Super powers- decent. Overall- Fun.. for a bit. I think the 1 and only mistake that EA made with this game was... well.. themselves. EA should stick to sports games. If any company should of taken over this game it should of been Rockstar or Treyarch. They both have great experience with 'sandbox' games. But the game was still a blast for about 4 days. Flying is fun. Storyline... no.
Please don't come back.

This game can be described with one word. Shit. I hated every bit of it. The powers were lame, the game had shit physics, and it had sub-par graphics. I had to throw up after playing it for 10 minutes. Best to leave this one on a shelf somewhere.
Superman Returns, I guess

Superman Returns is a sub-par video game at best. The graphics are so so. I would have liked a lot more realism to the look of the game. It is one the 360 now, there is no need for this cartooney look. The city itself look great. Do not get me wrong about that. They did a great job on metropolis, but when the character you are playing as or the characters you are fighting look like Gamecube graphics, there is a problem. Also why do I fight the same characters over and over again? The only difference is what powers work on which characters. The sound effects in the game are good. The punch sound effects hit their mark and the street sounds are awesome. Even when you fly it sounds like it. The music is the same thing over and over and over again. Where is the John Williams score. I want to here the Superman music, where is that at? The story is sub-par. They crammed a bunch of cool Superman story lines into this game. None of them actually pull together all that well. I bounce around so much where am I going. The achievements on this game are impossible to hit also. I did it, but only after cheating. I completed the whole game and did everything I had to and only flew a total of 1000 miles and one of the achievements is fly 20,000 miles. It took me 15 hours to complete the whole game and I only flew 1000 miles, how in the heck do I fly 20,000 miles? Good luck trying to find all the kittens also. Even with the guide book it took me forever to find all the kittens. They make no sound to you get right on top of them. You are Superman for gods sake with superhearing and you can not hear a cat meow until you are landing on top of it. That is not even the worst part of the game. The controls absolutely stink. Can I hit the guy I am focussed on please? I can not throw the object at him and I can not hit him. Let me also run and fly into every building at superspeed. Since when does a building stop Superman? Shouldn't he fly right through the building? The mini games are fun but hard. How many times do I have to race that little freaking elf before I beat him. It is by sure luck alone that you will pull this feat off. All that being said this is not a bad game if you go in with low expectations. If you have time and patience it is an easy 1000 achievement points at least.

I am a BIG Superman fan. I waited for months fot this game. I even bought a 360 because I wanted to play this game with the best possible quality. Needless to say I was very dissapointed that I even waisted my time with this game. What frustrates me is that they had such a good thing going but they got lazy. The Flying controls were outstanding and the soundtrack was pretty good. The graphics could have been better but they were ok. Now for the problems.... First and formost has to be the monotonus gameplay. A lot like the issues that plauged Spider-man 2, you just get tired of the same ol' crap. The only thing that saved Spider-man 2 was the free roaming enviroment that alowed you to enjoy being spidey for hours without having to save or fight anyone. That's where Superman goes horribly wrong. I can deal with monotonus fighting but at least give be a choice. If you fly anywhere near the city you a bound to run into some sort of problem (ala Final Fantasy). The Small saving grace in this was the ability to play as Bizzaro. This was a fun addition to the game and get even better when you use the cheat to use him for an unlimited time. Although a fun addition this to gets very old. The camera angles were a bit frustrating at times and made me wonder if the were going for the epileptic monkey with a camera feel. And the targeting system gave Superman the attention span of my A.D.D five year old. Do waste your time with this game if you value your sanity. I am deffinetly not the same after playing this abomination of a game. The Superman fan inside died a little. And now I have the courage to get that Lazer removal of the Superman symbol on my arm.
What the hell?

From my understanding this game was SUPPOSED to follow the movie storyline. The only thing close to the movie was that Lex showed his face. And talk about repitition, how many of those damn robots do I have to kill. the flying feature is a plus and the concept is somewhat good, but STICK TO THE STORY LINE. Perhaps worth renting, but to own it? Wait till its selling for 19.99.
Hope you like boring

I really hated this game!! Sure it may be the best superman game, but if you were to replace superman with, lets say Bob the avenger, I think nobody would like it. The most fun I had with this game was throwing the Daily Planet globe around.
dont see the big deal

this game aint all that bad. most people would say it is, but i kinda liked it. the graphics arent amazing but there pretty good, the sound aint that bad, and the story is ok. it was a good game altogether. the best part of it all is goin faster than the speed of sound, id try it if i were you. the game still gets a little repetetive though.
Not as bad as some will make it out to be

This game is an instance where the name that is supposed to propell it in sales, hurts it, somewhat unfairly, in critical reviews. If this game was anything short of perfection, you know that all reviewers would slam it because its another Superman game that didn't live up to its potential. While the preceeding statement is not exactly untrue, this game is still enjoyable and head and sholders above any other superman game ever. The game this most closely resembles is spiderman 2, the first superhero sandbox game. Given the fact that this game is technically a generation removed from that game it should be much better. The same ideas from that game: a open city that you travers and periodically deal with emergencies, is still there. The closest thing to inovation is the "Metropolis health" gauge, which replaces traditional health bars because superman can't die(he can lose his stamina where he is severly inconvinienced by being knocked down). Its an interesting idea in principle but it could use more thought since destroying the city is the most fun you'll have in this game and many bosses require that you throw cars at them (which hurts the city's health) Actually most battles will see a large amount of collateral damage to the city and its inhabitants, lots of it semi-accidently incurred by superman as he struggles to use violence to stop violence, yet often ending up hurting those hes trying to protect. although frustrating, this feeling of living in a cardboard world is really how superman is supposed to feel. There are other improvements on the previous superhero sandbox gametype but most are graphical and interactive elements that are no brainers for the 360's power. When spiderman came out it was given great scores and this game is basically an updated version of that game with a new superhero, so why is it bad? Well the contols are a little shaky. The weird one analogue stick to look and the other to fly foward or backward is a little awkward. Also there is no jumping in this game, jus flying, which is annoying when the man of steal wants to walk foward but is impeded by a six inch obstruction but he needs to gather and take flight to get over it, a process that is a little too complicated for such a simple task. Also, especialyl durring combat, the flight/ground controls are annoying. Flight changes your attacks and generally makes your movements less precise and its annoying since some combos require you to fly and land mid combo. Still the variety of attacks is nice to look at, if not too useful. You'll likely find one or two favorite combos for flight and ground and abuse them. You see piderman excells where superman fails becuyase web swinging is jsut more fun than simply flying. In spiderman you would ignore the repetitious enemies and lack of interactivity because it was so fun jsut to go places. In superman, you jsut want to clear the buildings any fly straight where you want to go, its more efficient but less fun. After you break the sound barrier and thes the limits of the altitude the game will let you go to and fall from, theres nothing else inherently fun about the flying. Overall, this game is still fun and if you are a superman fan, its a must buy, mostly because its the best superman game and you likely lowered you superman standards with previous supeman games. For everyuone else its a judgement call: this is essentially a rehash of a 3 year old game just updated slightly and the hero is changed, to some extent for the worse. Sure this game is not as good as it could ahve been, the city could bemore interresting, the mini games better and the controls could sue refining, but its still the closest a game has come to making you feel like superman.
