This is one of those games I decided to rent even though, buying it would have only been $30 from Wal-Mart. I'm glad I did though. As I feel that this game is more of a rental than a buy. I love the dark overtone, though.
Graphics: Very dark and gritty. Just like the comic come to life. Characters sometimes have an odd texture, but they are decent looking. THe darkness are nice animated creatures that the game renders very well. Environments are just decent.
Sound: lol I love the creepy sounds of the Darkness. Mike Patton does a great job with his uber creepy voiceovers. I also enjoy the whole mobster lingo that is constantly in the game. Mature stuff.
Gameplay: More than your typical first person shooter, as you have special powers that make the game unique. My favorite was the serpent tentacles you have that can stretch to far off places and suck some un expecting smo's face right off! It's a blast, but the game is kind of short.
Overall: A dark, enjoyable experience that I think everyone should at least give a chance!
The comic book is not the only thing that rocks!

This game is so awesome! I recommend it, great gameplay, graphics and decent sound. Aiming takes a little getting used to though, hard mode could be a little "harder than medium" and multiplayer could use work. A buy for some, but sceptics should rent first.

At its core, The Darkness is a slick FPS, but built upon that, is an ancient creature/entinty/thing called The Darkness. Based off a Top Cow comic book, this Run-N-Gun Rip-n-Tear game has exceeded my expectations. What I thought would be a crappy "Spider-Man 3" calibur game, was actually a very enjoyable quest. While the game can get a little frustrating with the fact there are no check points, and the mentally retarded minions who do jack sh*t, this game is a solid hit. While the story isn't much in comparison to the comic book's, this game is something that blends WWII shooters, ghetto brawls, and bloody heart eating gore feasts, in with watching "To Kill A Mockingbird" quite nicely.
A first triumph in 'comic-games'.

Let's face it, most games based off of either movies, or comics- suck! There are a few exceptions but still. Now my opinion on todays' FPS games is already at a respected low. It was unlikely that an FPS comic-based game would raise it. Right? Wrong.. The Darkness is pure quality. Truly. It's creative liberty take on the comic is totally acceptable and makes the game so enjoyable that i couldn't put the controller down. And when I did have to, it was the first time since RE4 (for the GCube) that I left my system on until I resumed playing. Besides, what doesn't sound cool about up-close-and personal gun fights, eating hearts, casting black-holes, throwing cars, and summoning creatures of the dark? You're absolutely right- everything sounds cool. So slap highfive yourself 2K games. You've raised my bar on FPS.
The darkness has come to the light.

Well lets start off by saying that the darkness does not have a flaw in it.If It has the voice acting of mike patton from faith no more you know its gonna be good. The controls are perfect not a damn flaw in em.Its also pretty cool that you have demons right on the side of yout and that can rip your enemies face off and devour their heart is good too.Yeah is lovable like Halo 2.I give it a five out of five.
Could be better

Maybe its just because I m not a fan of 2K but I dont think this is a very good game.Everyone is talking about how wonderful it is but Im not one of them.Yes the graphics are good but the A.I is terrible. Try before you buy. Go out and rent it and see if you like it.
Pretty Cool...

This game is not that bad. It is a step in a creative and new direction for first-person shooters. It is actually pretty scary to tell you the truth. If you like Resident Evil than you will more than likely like this too.

The reason the darkness is so amazing and not sooooo amazing is its campaign and multiplayer. from Top Cow and games comes the adaption of the comic book series of the same name that wont let fans down. the multiplayer is the only issue of the game. it seems too thrown together and last minuted rushed. th multiplayer is lagging but shapeshifting from human to darkling is a nice touch to a counterstike feel. the campaign is extremely amazing though. with the feeling of a action antihero mafia game it plays well. The game gives you a variety of powers over time and is bloody(ex: eating hearts)and with good weapons and simple achievements its excellent. the only negative of campaign is on the NYC streets there is not enough civilians. Yet i hope they will fix up multi player in the future and i cant wait for The Darkness 2

A fun game, and definietly the most memorable FPS you may come across. That being said, it is by no means perfect. Levels are uncreative, and a lot of backtracking and lost moments are common when you need to establish yourself. I liked it, though, and would definetly suggest it to a friend. Like you, who is now reading this review. Try it, and see for yourself.
