The game was fun and if you wanted to do everything correctly and unlock most of the achievements you'll be spending a good amount of time in the game. The game couldn't done without the little yellow dude he's just annoying throughout the game.

it's easy to see why blue dragon is the best selling xbox 360 game in japan

blue dragon may not be selling as well here n the states as it is in japan but once you play it you'll see why japanese gamers like it so much. it even doesa pretty good job standing up against final fantasy, which was created by the same man who made blue dragon. eventhough it doesn't reinvent the japanese role playing game it does do a great job at being fun by feeling both familiar yet fresh at the same time. the battle system is turned based but luckily there are no random battles and bause of that you can sneak u on your opponent and surprise him from behind to gain an advantage in battle. also there are no weapons to buy because you use your shadows which manifest into a different creature for each character to fight with. during battles you can have characters either on the front line where they both cause and recieve more damage, or have characters with less defense in the back casting spells and taking less damage but at the cost of causing less damage through melee attacks, pretty much like the 1st 6 final fantasy games. the shadows that your party members have can switch between nine different classes on the fly and as each character earns mor "sp" or shadow points their shadow's class increases and they even gain new skills as their rank in one class icreases enough. some skills you can use on th field to do things that range from throwing a bomb at an enemy that stuns them so you can attack 1st after engaging them in battle to things like defeating weaker enimes just by touching them to things like turning yourself invisible to avoid combat all together. the cool thing is that when you gain a skill you can switch to another class and equip the skill you just learned from the other class providing you with lots of options as to how your party members fight in battle. also the music is awesome and the characters all have their own unique personalities.

Typical Japanese RPG

The game is a nice looking game. I found that the story was all over the place though. It was hard to follow. The fighting system was your typical RPG flare with a little bit of coolness with your "shadow" doing the moves. Good traditional Japanese RPG. Maybe too easy for hardcore players.

Not good enough? It lookes like final fantasy?

Over all this is a good arcade style role play. Lots of guys from final fantasy and lots of different gamestyles and test to complete. I say pick it up, it should give many hours of gaming enjoyment if you havent played final fantasy yet. Ok game

Refreshing combat system

After playing almost all RPG's released for the last 20 years, I have to say this is the best combat system I've played in a very long time !!

Just not what I thought it would be...

I'm sorry that I have to do this but I really do not agree with the gamepro staff on this one. This game seems like the fundamentals of Final Fantasy fused with Pokemon and other crappy anime cartoons. As an adult I do not like this game. It's like playing Pokemon Snap. I must have missed what they were trying to achieve with this game, the impression I got was mediocrity or boredom. I guess Microsoft was so desperate for a big RPG for thier console they released something that was geared towards the Japanese market in America. Just because it was lauded in Japan does not mean American gamers will like it. The voice acting was forgettable, the character models look like something out of a fifth graders sketch book, and the music was decent but what the hell was up with the boss battle music? I don't care if that guy did sing "Smoke on the Water" his a$$ does not belong in a boss battle in Blue Dragon or any other game for that matter. Also the extremely long corporeal attacks could have used a shut off valve as well. All that graphics goodness just leads to boredom after the 200th time you've seen it. For all these reasons my final thoughts of Blue Dragon are: An RPG it is, a classic it is not.

Blue Dragon

I loved the graphics and gameplay for the game. But the game looked a bit childish. The A.I could have been a been better.

Blue dragon - like a DQ clone meet FF

Great battlesystem-easy to powerlevel and make your party into what you want it to be,no random encounters either. The game is a bit slow on the story though, but takes of at the end of the disc1.
