the facial animations are second to none. the combat system destroys the notion of being a button masher.the story is great also. a fun ride but a very short one. this might be the greatest rental of all time.

Story 8.9 This story is very very good, not better than God of War, but still really good. You see, a sword called the Heavenly Sword is a cursed blade that kills the user after long periods of use. On a certain day(forgot what it was called in game) the decendent to the heavenly warrior(Original user of Heavenly Sword) is suppose to be born, but.... instead of a incredible miracle, Nariko a crimson haired female was born(oh, and also Nariko's mom dies when nariko was born). Throughout Nariko's life she was marked as a curse. Now, in the future Nariko's clan is being chased by King Bohan(a tyrant, so to speak), they eventually get conered in a fort, the clan fights him off and escapes. The clan tries to escape, fails, and Nariko now holding the Heavenly Sword needs to save her clan, what will happen next? Gameplay- 9.5 The gameplay in the game is AMAZING!!!! But lets make one thing clear, no block button or jump button. the blocking is automatic, and when you block a enemy's attack and press triangle at the exact moment, you perform a kill-counter, if you press a half second late, you perform a regular counter. This button is kinda a button masher, but not really. You attack and execute combos very similar to God of War. If you successfully execute counters, combos and killing enemies, you will eventually gain a superstar gem, press O, and something REALLY painful will happen to your enemy. The paths are very linear, and you will NEVER get confused on where to go(well maybe 1% a chance). Puzzles are really easy too, i dont even need to explain them. Boss fights are hard, and they will take a lot of time too, each boss pretty much has a certain pattern and you need to strike at the exact time( think GOW). Aside from Nariko's usual sword striking fun, you can control Kai, Nariko's younger sister. She uses a crossbow, and is very quick and agile(like a cat). Once you fire your crossbow and hold the fire button you go into aftertouch, a mode where the camera closes into the arrow and you guide the arrow with the sixaxis(which works hella nicely). Oh, and you can use aftertouch with anything like shields, bodies, etc. Design- 9.7 THIS GAME IS GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!! Everything from Charcter textures, the magic/spark effects, the background, and the incredible facial animations. One of the best looking games on the PS3 yet...... Enough said, if you want an awesome looking game, its already a sell.Well.... Nariko's hair is a little..... suckish, but everything else GORGEOUS!!! Sound- 10 Ok, sound in this game AMAZING. The music is incredible, it fits perfectly with what you're doing, what is going on, and it immerses you into the game. The sound effects like chains, metal clashing, arrows whistling through the air, rock crumbling, bones snapping, and everything else is so so so good. Overall- 9.5 The ONLY things wrong with this game is Nariko's hair, the very short 6-10 hour campaign, the last boss is very VERY difficult, and it could be a little bit over the top at times. Should You Get It??? 92%(HELL YEA!!!!) With a lot of unlockables, hell mode( it really is hell compared to normal), and the fact that it's so so so fun, the hours you put into this game will be 20+. I pray to god that PS3 owners dont miss this game, it's by far one of the best single player games on the PS3 right now. But if you are short on money, i guess you should rent it..... But if you have enough money, GET IT GET IT GET IT. If you've heard, they might release a sequel, or extra content if the game sells well.
Heavenly Sword, a game that hold its own.

A Heavenly Girl comes down to unleash living Hell on her enemies...it only gets better from there. The graphics are astounding, gameplay and controls are easily managable, and it goes along a great storyline.

Heavenly Sword is another 1st party game in a long list of Sony-made games appearing in 2007. Although most of the previous games have been a hit or miss affair, HS is a cut about the rest (literally)in style and execution. If you can get over the fact that the ride is over far too soon, then you have a lot to look forward to with Heavenly Sword. Although Heavenly Sword has been labeled as "Goddess of War," it is actually an entirely different beast altogether. There are similarities, but the end result sets it apart from Kratos' adventures just enough to stand on its own as a unique experience. The main focus of the game has you controlling Nariko, who uses different attack stances to fight, block, and counter her enemies throughout the adventure. Although the game is a button masher at heart, there is actually some depth to the combat as switching stances to match the color of enemy attacks can either save your butt or destroy anyone in your path. A much smaller portion of the game is devoted to Kai, who uses her bow gun to pop enemies from a distance. While using this gun (and any other projectile) You can go into a mode that allows you to control the object with the motion controls of the Sixaxis. On paper, it seems dumb. But in execution, it can be a very fun change of pace that doesn't take away from the game at all. The presentation of the game is top notch. The graphics are nice and colorful. The sounds in the game set the mood and never seem out place. The voice acting is also of Hollywood quality. However, the real star of the show is the quality of the facial animation of the characters in the game. Its obvious that the motion capture team put a lot of work and devotion into this game, and it shows. So what keeps Heavenly Sword from being heavenly sent? Well, its just too short. There is no exaggeration to this at all. The game can definitely be completed in 6 hours time. This is a real shame, because the game is a fun run through that you just don't want to put down. And, before you know it, you've won and the credits are rolling. With today's game prices hover at 60 dollars or more, a 6 hour game makes it hard to justify a purchase when other games Like Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Devil May Cry, and God of War offer twice the amount of play time for the same price or much cheaper. While Sony may not have the be all end all of action games here, what they do have here is a great start to a potential hit franchise. With a little more extra content, Heavenly Sword could have been right up there with the greats of the action game world. However, regardless if you plan to buy it or not, you can't go wrong with at least giving this game a try.

Absolutely stunning when it comes to the graphics. Game play is also great although the game itself is short.

This game Is the best game for the playstation 3, to date. It's graphics aare incredible. The people's faces and reactions in this game has eery similarities to actual people. The game's mechanics pull you in to the point where you actually feel like you are doing some of the things in this game. If the concept of the three fighting stances makes the game seem a little too freaky difficult, it's not. You really have to pay attention to what you're doing with the stances for the first ten minutes after it's introduced. after that, it's second nature. My only gripes of this game is that it is somewhat easy the first time around (except for the last boss) and yes, it is pretty short, however it's replayability is pretty far up there. All in all, if you have a ps3, you have to play this.

This was probably the most anticipated ps3 game so far (not counting killzone or metal gear cuz they havent been released). so des it live up 2 the hype? in my opinion...no. ok this is not a bad game, its pretty good. the hack and slash gameplay is awesome, story is very well told, graphics r awesome, etc. so were does the game fail? well..its too short. the story and the gameplay is jus great so its a dissapointment that the game is so short. also, theres no replay value and no levels of difficulty 2 make things interesting. also, the boss battles r kinda tiresome. extra content such as artwork, anime vids, and makin of the game r all nice...but u cant subsitute gameplay with extra content. some of the side missions like cannon shooting or playin as kai (which gets VERY old after u play an enire chapter as her) r nice. i hope ninja theory adds sum free extra content 2 give the game more value but until then...its a rental.
