this is second time final fantasy has dissapointed me. this is the first time i can use the words final fantasy VII and lame in the same sentence. It felt kinda like a cross between devil may cry and a pile of dog sh*t. 1st of all the lame auto aim. 2nd taking time to custimize your gunto end up missing your shot. The story line felt ok even though the gameplay was lame. the cutscenes were cool, except when you saw the same exact scene 3 times in a row. Then you got your suprisely easy bosses. Unless you make out with a cardboard cut out of yuna, i think you should wait until october 30th to get your dose of asskick.

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII had a lot of high hopes riding on it. Unfornately, it did not deliver as much as it could have. Another game involving the world of one of the most popular RPG's in history is expected to be a smash hit, but in this case, it seems more like an average blow. DoC picks up one year after the events of the CG movie, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children(three years after FFVII)and is centered around the stoic gunman Vincent Valentine. You play as Vincent through several levels taking on a deadly military force called Deepground. Through out the game, you will also witness the details of Vincent's tragic past involving Lucrecia, Hojo, and the Jenova Project. While Vincent fights against Deepground and the demons of his past, the player will have to fight with the awkward control scheme, the fidgety camera, and needing all the ammo you can find. Aiming while using the camera becomes difficult so much that you wasting many bullets while trying to hit a target(unless you use the auto aim feature). The controls can be changed, but there is not much difference since you have to press the fire button twice to ready the weapon then shoot. Also switching from gun mode to melee mode can become cumbersome at times. The engine bears similarities to Devil May Cry, but does not have the same level of finesse the previously mentioned game possesses. What Dirge of Cerberus does have going for it is impressive visuals, a sound music score, spot on voice acting, and Advent Children-esque cut scenes. Had the same effort been put into the actual gameplay, this would have been a stellar sequel. However, if the developers thought it's name would have carried it there, they were wrong. Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII was something that everyone looked forward to, a sequel to one of the greatest games of our time. In many cases, it did not disappoint, but in many important areas, it fell short of the legacy of its predecessors. Still a game worth owning, especially if you are a fan of the series(and who isn't?).

This is, to me, another example of SquareEnix blowing their chance for a money maker. All the elements of a good action/adventure game are present, a kick-butt hero with a mysterious past, the game spins off of the most popular title in the franchise's history, and a plot concerning the deep dark secrets of an evil corporation is always a good secure plot to go with. But, in my opinion, this game is just another example of Square's new philosophy of "use our past success to milk our fans for all they're worth." But I digress. The game succeeds in some avenues, obviously. The fighting is not annoying and the over all plot line is not that complicated or incoherent. Any person who doesn't understand the plot must have a severe case of ADD. The graphics are not terrible, they serve their purposes. And seeing the old characters for the hit prequal is quite nice and interesting, but where the game falls short is areas where Square should know better. The game is pathetically linear. Square of all should know the art of the mini-quest and alure of exploration. The age of being halted by a 3" bush or rock should have ended with the first playstation. These tid-bits are a dead give away that SquareEnix didn't give a flip about quality. Variety should have been a little more. More magic, more moves, more add ons. All of that could have been done by drawing the materia system of FF 7 over into Dirge of Cerberus. Many Good ideas were overlooked or just plain scrated. If one has to play Cait Sith (who only sneeks around), wouldn't one like to play as Cloud for at least one level, or Tifa, or Red XIII (How awsome would that have been)? Eveyone knows that Cloud just beckons to be played in an action role with that oversized sword. But alas, the lack of interesting ideas, forced linear play, and the barrage of identical enemies are a testiment to the lack of care in the game. Coupled with the most absolutely unfitting music, which would be better appreciated in an elevator, this game is one of the most blown opportunities Square has squandered. But in my humble but thoroughly accurate opinion, they've been doing that since FF 7. None of their games since then have been "all they could be." Shame.

Althought, this will not change any FF series fan from getting this game and I'm on of them. Dirge of Cerberus main problem has to be the gameplay and camera issues. Your basically doing the same stuff over and over. Only reason you keep playing this game is cause you wanna get the back story to FFVII. DOC strong point has to be its Cut Scenes which are on par with Advent Children. This was a good try by Sqaure Enix but fall short of success. Kinda remind me of "The Bouncer".
Needs to be cut some slack, but I see where it comes from

Ok, first I would like to start by agreeing with most of the critics, this was a huge dissapointment, especially for us FF7 die-hards. But, it is better than they say. It is a decent game to kill some time with and it was also enjoyable to at least get some continuation the the story of FF7, even if it is a little ridiculous and poorly written. The graphics are subpar but it still it was nice to see my favorite characters in this form. My biggest complaint is the A.I. and the enviroments. The A.I. is just too easy. Even on hard most enemies are easily mowed down and the ones that arent simply require turning into Galieon Beast to dispatch. The levels are bland and boring. If you are looking forward to seeing your favorite locales from FF7 then dont get your hopes up. It is repetitive wall after wall of green, brown, and metallic grey. So if your a big fan then go ahead and get it, but dont empty your wallet for it. rent it or wait for the price to go down. Just let Dirge of Cerebus fill the time till we all get what we want... a remake of the original

Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus lacks most everywhere as a game. I'm sure that what I say will have little to do with FF VII's large following, as I am one of those who loved every bit of the original. But this game does what most large companys will do, milk it with lack luster gameplay, some repetitive scenarios, extremely linear level design and very poor incoherent story. Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus is what most FF VII fancs have been waiting for, a follow up to, perhaps, the most enjoyable and popular and most definitly epic FF of them all. What it does not do, however, is meet any of the hopes of these fans. Albeit those who are ignorant to this face will battle me at every point I make, it does not change the fact that this game, is indeed, rubbish. The key flaw in this most Final of Fantasys is its gameplay. Ultra repetitive, dumb as hell AI even on hard mode, and bland graphics do nothing to help this game. If you enjoy a horrible targeting system with hordes of dumb AI to shoot up, than perhaps this game is for you. The lackluster graphics are alos a noted issue. Boring scenarios with tiny allyways and the like guiding you to your next area with soldiers to mindlessly blow away is not my idea of a good time. The story is also horrid. I can't figure it out, its barely concievable, its not nearly FF VII. The only reason I would recommend anyone playing this is to perhaps get a peak into Vincents backround, but sadly, he has been thrown into a crap game. Sorry fanboys, this is not what we've been waiting for. You have let us very very down Square Enix. 2.0/5.0

Do you all need to hear another one of my Final Fantasy VII rants... in a word, yes. Now this baby really packes a puch. I can't wait for it to come out. Final Fantasy fans across the globe have been eagerly anticipating a remake of the Final Fantasy pinnacle, Final Fantasy VII, for the PS2. For just how long now? Ever since Final Fantasy X premiered on the PS2 in 2001. Fast forward to May 2005, E3. Sony showcases the power of the brand spanking new PlayStation 3 with a recreation of the Final Fantasy VII info. This video sent fanboys in a media whirlwind, taking it as a sign that the FF: VII recreation was under hand. Unfortunately that is not the case.Sony is however creating a trio of titles, not all video games, which have been affectionately called "Compilation of Final Fantasy VII". However, we're going to take a look at the most ambitious of the trio with a game called Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII.Dirge of Cerberus stars Vincent Valentine in a, which a surprising move by Square, third-person shooter. The only time Square has taken Final Fantasy away from the RPG Genre was is Final Fantasy Tactics, which was a turn-based tactical game. However, prepare to soak your shorts with DoC.In the same fashion as the more recent Final Fantasy games, Dirge of Cerberus sports some amazing graphics. The attention to detail on the characters and the typical third- person shooter levels are looking good enough for FF fanboys to forget about the horrendous Final Fantasy: X-2. Oh ya and, Eat me XBox.
