From what I played, it wasn't so bad. Could have been better of course, but this new course wasn't bad, it was just left open for improvements.
it was good

I mysel like this game. I am not really into shooters and I still liked it. I did not like however how the game actually is like its seperated into the different chapter things. I did not like that at all. But overall it was a very fun game.
I like it

I dont know what gamepro was thinking!! the graphics are good they are better then a 3.00 i know its not really good for a Final Fantasy game but i think it is at least a 4.00 on graphics. It wasn't really challenging enough for me but the bosses were pretty fun. But the control was a little off. If you are a hardcore Final Fantasy Fan i say at least rent it give it a shot. But i wouldn't recommend it if you arent into Final Fantasy
halfgood and half bad

Can Vincent fill in Cloud's shoes?

Basically this game don't have much to offer, except much more closure to the epic story of Final Fantasy 7. The game focuses on Vincent Valentine, and a whole new set of villians of a more superior race, created by the mad scientist Hojo. Vincent will uncover myseteries of the past in order to save the world of an apocalyptic future. This game is action packed, and fun for the most part. Just doesn't have what the original FF7 had to offer...
Vincent is awesome, but this game is not

I had high hopes for this game, but sadly Square-Enix did not deliver. Final Fantasy VII had a in depth story with lots of plot twists, but it was fun to play. Square has made Dirge a miserable experience with long and confusing cut scnese that the player will get tired of real quick. The storyline is not amazingly complex, but this game won't let you play it. The cutscenes are drawn out and while at points seeing action sequences similar to the quality of Advent Children can be fun, at other points they are flawed and look horrible for PS2. The gameplay isn't much better than the story. It is easy and short, and while sensless killing and interesting boss battles are the redeeming factors of the game, the gameplay is not original or challenging enough to be considered a good title. This game is a rental for anyone not familiar with Final Fantasy VII and if you want to add this to your compilation VII collection it is worth the price, but the replay value is limitied. Bonus missions and sidequests ae incoperated into gameplay and are also unlockable after completeing it, but most casual gamers will not return to this title.
A dark game with Darker Gameplay

The next game in line of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, this game starts off a year after Advent Children, and it stars the enigmate and morbid Vincent Valentine. The games story is dark, but enlightning of Vincents past and pesonality. But the gameplay couldve been way better, but remember, Square-Enix is an RPG company, not a Fist/Third Player Shooter company, so of course they didn't know how to make a very good F/TPS. The in-game graphics are good, but don't expect to see something awespme till the CGI cutscenes, where the Graphics are off the charts.Music is repetative at times, and rarely exciting. Level designs are a bit bad, but nothing too complicated. If you have never played Final Fantasy VII, expect to be confused and lost most of the time. This game is ment for fans of the series.and with that, fans sould be pleased with this game on its story alone.
Why did it get so bad reviews?

This game got some bad reviews, but it's not so bad. The graphics are amazing, I don't see many ps2 games at all that have such stunning graphics. It's Final Fantasy 7, it's just got to be great. It's not perfect, gameplay-wise, but it's decent, if I were you I'd buy it.

The spotlight shifts away from our hero Cloud to rest on a Vincent Valentine- a fairly flat character that happens to have a demon inside of him and much skill in wielding guns. Taking place 3 years after FF7, you find out that a group- called Deepground- hidden below Shinra Building- has escaped to terrorize the briefly calm Midger. Im So Sorry& As always Square delivers an absolutely stunning opening CG, showing the Meteor incident and an encounter between Valentine and an unconscious scientist- who disappears in a strike of lightening. For the rest of the story a troubled Valentine looks for answers to do with his lost love Lucrecia, who apologizes to him for something he thinks is his own fault. When Midger is attacked Vincent is called into action, and rejoins the same team from years before where Cloud, Baret, Tifa, Yuffie, and even Cid all make at least a brief appearance. Theyre job is to take out the Mako reactors (Déjà vu) while your job is to take out the Tsviets- a group of 5 powerful deepground leaders. Scraping the standard turn based battles, you defeat enemies by using your 3 customizable guns in a third person view. This takes some getting used to. Simple in scope however it works out alright. The in-game characters look nice, with nice lighting effects and colors along with flowing hair and capes. The only places it falls short graphically are the environments; all are dimly lit and mainly brown and grey, maybe orange at times. However as the game is much darker than its prequel, this is usually unnoticeable. Also, a change in enemies would have been smooth, since you kill the same beetles, robot dogs and helmeted soldiers the whole time. Im Counting On You The tunes and voice acting are superb- something very apparent throughout the many cut scenes. Its even enjoyable to hear the Japanese rock at the games end and the voice acting makes the surely impossible story seem just that much more believable. The controls are a weak-point though. Hand to Hand fighting is slow and is rarely used as it leaves you vulnerable and is choked with one sloppy combo. The guns have an auto-aim system, and most enemies can only be shot right in the abdomen, save for if your zoomed in with a sniper (which yes, you can build one out of a 3 barreled handgun). The gun customization is smooth and changes mostly appear in the in game play and some movies. Overall however, its no where near as smooth as Squares tried and true formula, and the run and gun action makes you forget youre playing Final Fantasy. &You Have His Eyes& Overall, the game is definitely worth a play through. I bought it, and dont regret it, but if what your looking for is more Final Fantasy 7, just replay the first or watch the movie. Although the game has a nostalgia factor when you see old haunts from an un-blocky Cloud to the Train Graveyard, in the end these things just remind you of how much better the first game was over the second. If youre an FF fan though, you have to at least rent this one- after all- Its still Final Fantasy. Key Moment: When youre laying on the floor in the middle of a cut scene and the camera changes to Cloud on a bike popping out of the back of a truck and speeding through the desert with Baret and Tifa at his back. This is where your mouth drops and you remember youre playing Final Fantasy 7. Graphics: 4.5 Sound: 4.5 Control: 4.0 Fun Factor: 4.5

I recently playted this game, and I loved it. Every part of the game is amazing. Vincent being my favorite character, I loved finding out about his past. I would have expected nothing less from Square Enix.
