I purchased this game about 3 weeks ago and I just finished it yesterday. Took me about 40 hrs to finish the game. I must say the game does give you a lot of content and its fun for the most part. I felt the game kind of dragging after the 30+ hr mark, I'm not used to adventure games taking this long. The visuals of the game are some of the best I've seen in video games, the whole concept of a moving painting is a fresh concept in video games, it should be used more often.

Okami is a beautiful game it just looks awesome. Plus you can't go past being a wolf in any game especially one with a paint brush! This game can be a bit repetitive especially if you get your brush strokes wrong but I still find that it is quite fun to play and is aesthetically pleasing to watch.
It's a shame more people haven't played this...

Okami is a great PS2 (and now Wii) game by Capcom which tells an interesting tale in the and art of ancient Japan. The whole game itself is set within this mood, and it is a very harmonious and captivating game. It plays like an adventure type game, and has also been seen as an RPG. Either way, is is a great, long experience that many people should explore. It has a soothing audio score, but doesn't have any voice acting; all the cutscenes and character conversations are text based. It doesn't bother me since I like to read, but added voice acting could have been implemented. All the same, the sound for the game is really good. The gameplay focuses on exploring, and combat, and using a paint brush. This, celestial brush, is used to attack enemies, turn night to day, solve puzzles, and make the lives of the inhabitants of Okami easier. This crucial gameplay element is very clever, and blends in seamlessly into the game. The graphics are very pretty, as the whole game looks like a painting canvas, or a work of art. Both the PS2 version and Wii version have nice, colorful art and animations, but I feel that the PS2 version has a more intended as it looks a little washed out, but seems to fit in well. You explore the over world, traverse dungeons, equip weapons and learn abilities for the wolf you control. As a four legged creature, you can expect to dig to find items, use speed to your advantage, and bite your enemies. You can even pee on them, once you learn the right moves! The game is a joy to play through, and could keep you busy for a while. And is one great game that more should appreciate.

Gawd, that was great! Okami has became most favorite on my action games list, right next to Small Arms and Tekken. It started out just one more dead fantasy, when started to grow on me. I can't seem to stand it, being so good. And it gets pretty dang funny. If fighting funny fantasy's are for you, you'd be crazy not giving this guy a whirl.
Not doing Okami is like eating flavorless food. If you don't even stop to look at it, head you're self over to the psychiatrist. Action has stored itself in a box with a wolf on it. If they make an Okami 2, I am running to Gamestop and buying it, no matter how much it costs! And it's gotta be pretty good for me to like it, I'm kinda picky.
Get Okami. Now question about it, don't rent, buy. Get it used, even. Anything. If somebody asked me to play Halo or Okami, it's Okami. Seriously. So, do I have you hooked on Okami? Wanna rush out and buy it? Seriously, I was hooked on it after 30 minutes. So, with Okami, No questions about. NOW!

Okami was my favorite game of 2006...unfortunately, not many people seemed interested in it. For shame.

Why games like this never sale is beyond me. Okami is one of those special games that actually tries to do something different for a change. The story is unique and the game play can be a joy. The graphics in the game are beautiful and fun to just run around in. The perfect mix of beauty, great game play, humor, and an easy to pick-up and unique way to play.

Okami is the best game you've never heard of. During this gaming experience, you play as a Shinto sun god reborn into the form of a white wolf called Ameratsu. Previously, the Shinto sun god vanquished a mighty eight-headed beast called Orochi. With the help of a brave warrior from Kamaki Village, they were able to seal Orochi within a sword. Presently, someone of the unknown released the monstrous being from the imprisonment and turned most of the land into a "cursed zone." In these said cursed zones, people become statues and all that is able to bloom turns lifeless. The purpose of Ameratsu's resurrection is to rid the darkness that suddenly appeared engulfing the land and defeat the dreaded Orochi. Along on your journey, a "traveling artist" the size of a flea named Issun will accompany Ameratsu and burrow himself beneath her fur. I don't blame other reviewers who compare Okami to The Legend of Zelda series because Issun serves Ameratsu the same way the fairy serves Link. Ameratsu's main tool is called the Celestial Brush and is used constantly all throughout the Japanese water color environment. So literally the world is your canvas. Issun claims his only reason for joining Ameratsu is to learn all 13 brush techniques to continue his work as an artist. As you learn a brush technique from the gods, new obstacles and opportunities will appear to further the story. The visuals are astounding and give the illusion of playing inside of an actual painting. The characters are incredibly unique and each one contributes to the plot. Like in The Legend of Zelda, no one actually speaks, but each character mumbles their own individual sound. The character development is truly up to par and always keeps the story interesting. Along with the Celestial Brush, Ameratsu will acquire many different types of reflectors and glaives. You can equip both a main and sub weapon, so mixing and matching is also kind of interesting. Reflectors serve as both a shield and an offensive tool. Glaives are mainly used as an attack weapon and are never boring to use. Each weapon has its own special ability and unique look. The gameplay, in my opinion, is damn near flawless. Okami breaks the ambit in so many ways and is extremely fun to play at the same time. I highly recommend buying it. It's a shame Clover Studio no longer exists.

This game is a must-have for any PS2 collection. One of the most origional games i've seen in a long time. With over 60 hours of game play, and enough re-play value to keep you occupied until you can afford a PS3, this is easily one of the best RPG's out there. It's classic, Zelda-style action, along with the new "paint your own powers" brush interface, makes for the perfect Action-adventure game with an artistic twist. I give it a 5 out of 5!
why did no one buy it?

this game is a true great. not only is it made by one of the best development studios in the biz, clover, the studio responsible for viewtiful joe and god god hand, two wonderfully creative and funny games, but it is strikingly beautiful, has a great story and has some of the best bosses i've ever fought. unfortuneately, no one bought it and clover studios is no more. what does it take for people to see a truly amazing game and purchase it?
