This is the ultimate srategy game. First let's start with the Story. A group called the Greil mercenaries led by Greil and his son Ike are hired to take care of buisness like saving cities escorting people and what not. Through a bunch of complications that we won't say to spoil the game even though it's been out forever the team goes and teames up with Crimea to take out the army there at war with Daein. We won't lie this game is good it's just like a chess game where your mind is the only thing keeping you from having your army annhilated, it also has some good graphics especially in the cutscenes. We also won't lie when we say even easy difficult can be hard, (especially for people new to the series like me) in chess one move can end your game it's the same in this game a character could die or you could lose your base if you make a move that gives your opponent an opening. Also some another difficulty property in this game is that the fact that if your character dies ... they die. What that means is that there aren't any reviving spells, items or churches if your character dies there out for the game (it's especially annoying since some characters like healers and mages are as hard as to kill as it is hard to light a candle with a flamethrower). Unless you hit that reset button and start the mission over there gone for good. But the game will have new characters coming to your group like dogs to a piece of meat. This is a good hard game and for RPG fans it's essiential for you to get it.
The Path to a great series!!

Fire Emblem is one of the most creative franchises I ever witnessesed yet. The first thing you'll notice in the game is the incredible graphics in cutscenes. Cel-shaded and detailed. It's almost like the game broke through the Gamecube's boundaries. Now let's talk about the gameplay. You gather your troops and travel to a gridded battlefield. Your foe's army and your army take turns moving torwards each other. Now when two opposing troops encounter each other, a battle begins. The actual battle displays the troops who are fighting, and the one who charged at the other attacks first. Each troop does about one to three attacks, usually 1, and once they're done, the battle is over and the game goes on. However, the attacks are automatic. Which means, random attacks. Yes, sometimes you do a regular move. But then sometimes you use a really cool move, that instantly kills the foe. But you better use your army wisely, otherwise(here's the trouble) a soldier who dies is dead for the rest of the game. Yes that's right, dead. Which pretty much causes you to reset your game right when the guy dies. What a bunch of bull. I know they're sort of being realistic, but that was a bit too far. The controls are supposed to be simple, since it's an RPG, not some button-mashing game, but the controls are odd becuase... some of the commands are sorta misplaced. Overall, this game is a definate buy. One more problem though; long speaches. The other type of cutscenes don't have voice acting, but text bubbles. And they are quite too long. This game is still a fun game. This should really keep you busy for the next game Goddess of Dawn.

If you expected an awsome Fire Emblem game to come to the GameCube, then keep waiting because this games sucks more than playing PacMan upside down (I just made that up, but it sounded funny so...). The story kind of gets your attention at the begining but then it starts to get all crazy and confusing and the short as heck cut scenes don't help much either. Yea, you do get to go up by one class during the whole game, but at least it makes you feel like it's an RPG-like game. Nouf said, but seriously don't get this game. If you own a GameCube, then go get Soul Calibur II. At least that will keep you entertained for a whole five minutes.
Great SRPG

If you've ever played any strategy RPG, and liked it, this is one game you should buy. What this game attempts to do is get you enthralled in a fantasy war, which it definetly succeeds at doing. Some SRPG's are just basically RPG's where it feels as if the battle system has just been tweaked. This game, it's been chosen this way, so that it gives the game a better feel for war. One thing that helps you get the feel for war, is the weapon triangle. Swords are strong vs. axes, axes are strong vs. spears, but spears are strong vs. swords. Not only does this allow for much strategy, but it kinda gives you a feel for war. Also, each weapon that you obtain has a set number of times it can be used. Once you've used up all of its uses, it breaks. But, if there's one thing that happens in war, is people die. And in Fire Emblem, when your character dies in battle, he's dead for the rest of the game. You could always reset it, but sometimes it's just not worth it. It's perfectly alright to let some people die, because you get so many characters to make up for it, that if you've been keeping enough people alive, it's extremely difficult who to choose for each battle. There's a limit as to how many people you can use in each battle. But, in the end, it makes you think about how honorably some of your characters died, and how lucky some were to live. Then you feel like an idiot for....honoring video game characters... But, as for the story, this game definetly has a great story, and intersting dialogue. But, what it's missing are actual cutscenes. They just throw pictures onscreen for visuals, and a bunch of text. which many could care less, but for some, it may feel like reading a book for school. The game does offer some cutscenes, but there's only about four or five in the whole game. And, sometimes they'll throw in some lamo pictures to try and make up for it. But overall, this is defenitely a great game to buy for any SRPG fan.

Been meaning to review this game for a long time, but just never got around to it till now. Story: 4 - You take the character of Ike, who looks a lot like Marth but isn't, who is the son of Greil Mecenary's. Ike discovers an unconscious woman who is the Crimean princess. A war is about to break out between warring nations, can Ike stop it before it turns into a bloodbath battlefield. Gameplay: 4 - A chess like gameplay with 8 characters on the battlefield. You can buy and equip new armor, weapons, and gains new levels and classes. If you are an avid Fire Emblem fan, you know the style, but if not, think of it like Final Fantasy Tactics but with more characters Sound: 4 - Cut scenes with voice acting and the music is out standing. Overall: 4 - Another good RPG to add to the collection. Everything remains intact from Gameboy to Gamecube except the story. Still a good game to buy.

If you are a fan of strategy, RPG, or just good games, and you have a GBA, pick this one up! It operates like a normal strategy game. Move your units across a large playing field, encountering enemies and reaching a goal. But the way it is executed is amazing. Great battle features like criticals, the weapon triangle, hit rates all correspond to each other. And a major aspect: when a character dies, they're gone for good! Many other things about the games shine. There is a great assortment of weapons and classes, and the levels are always entertaining. The story is incredible as well, and you will get truly attached to your units. You really have to play to see the greatness of this game. There are only two things that drag this down. It is slightly shorter than its GBA prequels, with only one story line. But this hould not deter you. The second is that this game can be frustrating and hard at points, especially when units die. But that's no reason not to pick this game up. Trust me, you'll have the time of your life with it!
