One of the best sleeper hits.

I was a bit puzzled at why I frist dicided to rent this game. I thought it was a error on my part. How wrong I was. This game was one of the greatest Rpgs ive play in a while. You play as Jack (son of the great carin, Dragon slayer)in this epic adventure. Its the day youve been waiting for, time for you to become a knight just like your father. Youve been tuaght by your sister in sword play, but was it enough. Wondering this you step in the castle... This is but a taste of things in Radiata Stiores. What makes this game stand out, you ask? The sheer amount of gameplay. With over 170 people to recruit, a good story, and custom moves, it was hard for me to flaws in this game. I did how ever manage to find a couple things that could have been better. Such as the linar paths you must follow or the long cutsences you must sit though. All in all, when you come down to it. This is one awesome game. I highly recomend this game for rpg lovers everwhere.

this game is awsome

this game is cool.In the game you play as a character named jack.He has dreams about being the best warrior ever but ends up screwing up most of the time.he is a funny character.Other than that the battle system is okay it could be better. The 150 characters that you have to get are pretty hard and so are the missions which makes the game challenging. In the game you can pick to be on either the human side or the monster side.Either is good but on each side each tow of the main characters die.if you pick the human side ridley will die she is sort of a love and hate relationship with jack.If you pick the human side st ganz of the rose grichon brigade will die. he is sort of a father to jack but is not his real father.other than that each side has a diffrent swing to it!Overall this game was pretty awsome playing but i have not beaten it yet but when i do i will update this review!

I like to kick!

just because his dad was famous, doesn't mean he gets to be famous! In Radiata Stories for the PS2, you play as Jack, a small kid with sick fantasies of what his life will be like if he was famous. In the game you'll be able to recruit over 150 characters in your army of.. well, characters. But there is one small problem with the game, you can't explore... I know Square Enix is an amazing company for RPGs but its like they tease you. ALl you can do is whine while staring at the vast jungles and open areas that you can't even walk on. but aside from the non exploring, the battle system is ok, it includes and innovative Link System, that lets you coordinate your brethren abd unleach devastating team attacks in fast-paced, real time action! Yeah, its a good game, until you find another good RPG you can gawk at. I give Radiata Stories for the PS2 a 4... out of 5

Dog jokes aside, not a bad game

Radiata Stories, in my opinion borrows a lot from the Suikoden series. Case in point, the large number of characters for recruiting and certain boss fights that are either almost or completely unwinnable. A total of 177 party members can be brought into your cause to, what most RPG supreme goals are, to save the world. The variety of characters, story progression based on a certain decision, including two seperate endings based on that decision, and continuing after the final boss are some game concepts seen not too often in an RPG, if ever. Also of interest is a in-game clock that shows what time of day it is. This becomes important mostly for party recruiting and certain quests. Some can only be done at night or during the day. The battle system is in real-time and has a bit of a squad based flavor, due to the ability to learn commands to better lead your party during a fight. Problems occur when using the lock-on function, especilly when you can't swirch targets manually. Other than some diversions including party recruiting usually entailing small side quests that can take days (in the game), the story is pretty linear and a player can easily follow it to the end. Graphics and sound are typical for a RPG that but still works well for this type of game. The control scheme can get a little getting used to, though. For some reason you must use two different buttons to interct with someone or something. For beginners, it cn take getting used to, but eventually becomes second nature. Other than that, the controls are responsive, have a norml layout, and work well enough to get you through the game. Unfortunately, there is no option to change them to a pattern of your liking. If your like most RPG gamers eagerly waiting for Final Fantasy XII to be released, this may serve as a good diversion to starve off the wait. Also a solid RPG to add to your collection.

The security of the kingdom lies in one boy...and his friends...Jack Russel

I bought this game on January...simply because I found out about it while searching for star ocean reviews...I was mad about the fact that many gamers were praising the battle system..but i found it...too strenuous and felt like it tried too hard. However when i found and beat "this" game I kept doing it again and again just to get all 175 characters I would call it an enjoyable experience not a repititive one. I was disappointed that many people thought of this game as overrated and detrimental to the company square-enix, in my opinion I believe it to be much better than star Ocean could ever be.Another thing that bothered me was that some people were complaining that it was for little kid's and didnt appeal to adults, however it does say "Teen" and I find the story much more appealing to call it just for teen's. The gameplay really did improve over star ocean, but it lacked the mp bar and mages were only able to use one spell that was a bit of a letdown...since that really emphasized the need to just use skills and basic attacks. The counter moves were great and the link system isn't one to be ashamed of.I throughly enjoyed the kicking action and volty system as well as the time feature. Now for more of the cons, the ending, that was the most irritating thing, at least for the human side, it kept you thinking about what happened afterwards...However the ending's left you with a sentimental feeling for the loss of a main story character that is if you became attached to the characters. If a sequel was released i'd be sure to pick it up the day it launches. Unfortunetly I doubt that's gonna happen due to the actual ending's, so if square-enix actually did decide to make a sequel they would have to think about the loss of character's and the newfound reputation of Jack Russel. However, like I said before the ending makes it quite unclear about the outcome and makes you feel that your reward for everything you did was nothing but a 1-2min. movie. More than that, the better reward in my opinion is the after-game dungeons you get to play after you beat the game. All and all it's a great game and you should defitnately pick it up...will they ever make a sequel........ the world may never know...................................
