Starfox Assault is a game for the Gamecube designed by namco, starnge seeing as most starfox games were made by nintendo themselves, but welcome nontheless. One thing that does need to be understood however is that this game is a massive departure from the series, and many of the series' usual strenths are unfortunately absent, one of the major criticism's leveled towards the game was the weak single-player game, which is a problem with the game, on foot sections never gel completely with the rest of the game and many of the levels feel samey and repetitive, not to say that the single player doesn't have it's fun moments. Where Namco have really shined however is the excellent multiplayer, which is incredible fun, players run about in points style deathmatches, jumping into planes, tanks or fighting on foot, this is a massive improvement over the old multiplayer in the n64 iteration and this is odviously where namco put a lot of their effort. So to finish up, if you are looking for a standard starfox game you may be dissapointed with this game, but in my opinion the multiplayer makes up for it's shortcomings.
fun game

Better than average game. I would recommend the game to anyone that like these types of games. No real changes but new maps. Maybe not the best installment of the game but still fun.
The Star Fox team is back, and GREAT!

This game has been a little hard in Gold Mode for me, but I got the hang of it and I'm lovin' it!!!!! My favorite character's in this game are Wolf O'Donnel, Fox McCloud and Krystal. I play Vs mode with my friends and they beat me all the time!!!
They're back...just not better than ever.

One major improvement over its predecessor, Star Fox Adventures: This one actually has shooting. That's about where it stops. This game is so laughably easy that almost anyone could beat it on the higher difficulty levels. Dying is nigh-impossible and the majority of enemies can be destroyed with what was clearly intended to be your weakest weapon. Flying in this game is nothing like flying in Star Fox 64. Controlling your fighter is comparatively difficult, although again, most enemies go down with a few blaster shots. The game is far too quick. Some players ought to be able to beat this in about two hours, maybe even less. And there's not a whole lot of replayability value: Apart from Xevious, which must be unlocked, it's the same thing throughout: Boring.
Fun, but flawed

Satr Fox Assault is a great game. Unlike Adventure, it returns to its roots with classic arcade-like Arwing sequences. But with new mechanics on ground and in the Landmaster Tank, Assault becomes a throughly original game. Arwing dogfighting is just as good as ever, with rolls, flips, bobmbs, ring health, and lots and lots of laser blasts. You will never titre of this. Ground play is refreshing, with the formidable and destructive landmaster tank and many weapons to use on foot. Single player is a fun mix of these elements, with an interesting story and great missions. At the end of each mission, there is a grading system where you are awarded badges and points based on a combo killing system. The problem with single player is that it is much too short. With only ten missions, I easily beat it in the first weekend I got it. Returning to unlock more badges and points provides some replay value, though not enough. The graphics are good, but not great. The sound is also good, with cool weapon affects, but music becomes repetetive. And you'll want to throw your controller out a window after hearing Slippy ask for help in every single mission. Multiplayer is suprisingly fun, with cool maps and an even larger weapon and mode selection. I cal SFA the "Halo of Gamecube". Though not quite as entertaining, it provides the awesome vehicles and weapons to bring it close.
A good try, but not a good game.

Starfox 64 is unquestionably one of the best shooting games of all time. Starfox Assault tries to bring the series onto the gamecube, but unforunately manages to make one of the funnest things ever, not so fun anymore. The game isnt a total flop. The graphics look great, the arwing and character designs are top notch. Voice acting isnt the best, but its still pretty good. And being able to land the arwing and run around shoot some things, then hop in a landmaster all in the same level is pretty cool. But flying the arwing isnt fun anymore. The ship flies so dang slow, and lasers dont fire as fast. Plus upgrades dont carry over between levels, so you have to start with single laser each time you start a level. The path the ships take through a level is twisty and curvy, which is awesome, but you crawl through the levels. There is no sense of speed at all. This game is definately worth a rental. Even a crappy arwing adventure is still an arwing adventure. But the repetitive foot missions and the complete lack of speed in the arwings ruin the game. Plus, the hyper lasers dont make the awesome noise they used to. This game was a decent first try, considering that it wasnt rare that made it. If they learn from their mistakes, then the next game could really be an amazing game. But Assault, just isnt there yet.
a little on the short side

Sweet gameplay and weapons, not to mention great graphics made this game alot of fun. But nintendo made it WAAAAAY to short. Like 9 levels? that is so not enough. i give this game a 3.5, which is what it deserves.
Too Short

Star Fox: Assault has it's moments but after everything is said and done you will not have been playing for that long. The multiplayer feature is nice but the adventure just fell too short for me.
And then came the bunny-ear nukes...

After Star Fox Adventures, the Star Fox series was...well, in my opinion, anyway, going into a tailspin. When Namco signed on to take the sequel, Star Fox: Assault, I felt things could only get worse. And thus, I must eat my words. Assault not only revives this ailing franchise, but it also gives a lesson to whoever does the next one (pleeease?). Although Assault is very pretty visually, this is one area where, overall, it lags behind its predecessor. Fox's character model, though sharp, is nowhere near as plush as Rare made him in Adventures. The environments, though detailed, still lack a certain something that made Adventures such a pretty game. Of course, Assault does a lot of things better. First of all, forget all that "Adventure" stuff. It may work for Fable, but Star Fox? Star Fox is an action game, pure and simple. And here is where Namco got it right. You get machine guns, rocket launchers, sniper rifles, grenades, tanks (!!!)...it's just like Halo. (David Scully included.) The missions themselves (ten in all) are fun to play, and adding three difficulty levels adds more replayability. Sadly, for the one who can master the game (or at least become adept at it), this will soon lose its novelty. And in comes the multiplayer. Four people (sorry, no 16-person Arwing deathmatches) can battle on foot, in the air, or in a tank in any number of locales. Where else can you get two foxes who are hot for each other (watch the cutscene after the sixth level and you'll see) and get them to beat each other silly? The irony is delicious. Is Assault the best Star Fox game ever? Maybe not. Is it the best one for Gamecube? Yeah. Hands down. Period. No WMDs in Iraq. Yes, I'm that sure.
A failing sequel.

Star Fox: Assault has little to offer in terms of fun. The only fun is of Assault is when your in the Arwing. But Arwing levels make up less then half of the game. The rest is crappy on-foot shooting levels. These levels get very repetitive very fast. And the on-foot contols are crap. When you get in the Landmaster tank you will also notice the controls are crap. So in the end Assault is a huge letdown to fans of the series. If you want to play it DON'T BUY IT just rent it.
