In short; unbelievable graphics, great voice acting, wicked story, nice control, kinda short but sweet. Best licensed game ever so far. You need to play this especially in 5.1. Show it to all your PS2 fanatic friends.
one of the best games of 2004 with no fanfare or hype to it.

I'll be honest. I really wasn't looking forward to this game because it didn't look that intresting to me. Boy was I wrong. This game is wonderful. It has superb graphics, topnotch sound and above average voice acting. The controls are a breeze so it's easy to get straight into gameplay from the start and that's great because there are some many different features and actions that you can do that it's a wonder that developers were able to map all of that on the Xbox contriller. Overall this is great Xbox game that all Xbox owners should check out.
Holy Jesus!

OMG, who could've ever thought this would turn out good. Game Informer made it sound great, but you can't rely on them. I did go and pre order the game (around January or February, sometime between there) and was desperatly waiting for this title. I thought id be playing it on PC, but Xbox is fine with me. First off, when you pop this game in, it has a very nifty menu system (even if a bit confusing at first). The game starts with a very thoughtful dream training session. You learn the basic controls (as if R63 and Halo didnt get you ready) and then you're blasted onto the Deserty planet. The controls are very well thoughtout, with leaning on the D-pad and X as you're almighty Action button. You get a very creative and original opening sequence that has prisoners taunting and cursing at you, and guards with bad attitudes ready to rain down on your parade. The acting is very good (except for Diesel of course) and the story is so engaging you'll play this game start to finsih (even thought you could without the story intact) The First few quests are easy, but enjoyable. The real exciting fun comes about 10 checkpoints into the game. You finally get a weapon and some good enemy AI to boot (not better than Far Cry's). The level structure is good, and provides some mixes every so often. Most strategies you use against the AI are useless in other areas. While the game may be linear, all the small details drag you in (big details too). The graphics are great (espcially on an HDTV) and the dobly digital is very well implemented, and provides that eiry feeling. Just looking up at the properly design prison in the lower levels make you want to hate life. The boxing/fighting system is something to remember. This controls perfect and is more fun than the shooting. You push the left joystick and press the R trigger to throw punches and block with L. Combos are easy to pull and are devastating to watch.
Not only redemption for Vin Diesel, but licensed games as a whole.

CoR is a game by Starbreeze & Tigon studios, and VU games. It's based on the upcoming movie of similar name. A prequel of sorts to this movie, and Pitch Black, we get to see into the past of the anti-hero, uncovering some mysteries, like his eyes. You may have noticed it's primarly first-person. You even have melee fights taking place in first-person, and it is truly the best first-person fighting system ever made. Interesting though, that you'll be using your hands and fists more than guns in this game. While it is short on weapons, it has several different melee weapons, too. Another addition is it is an 'adventure' hybrid... you interact with other NPC's, even enemies sometimes, and you may do jobs for them for rewards, and your character's life gauage even improves throughout the course of the game. And finally, it is a first-person stealth game, too. What's great is that it mixes simplicity with the feeling of it being less linear... you have a CHOICE to break someones neck. There are so many ways to murder someone it's disturbing. Technically, this game has about any other console game thus far this year, beaten soundly. The graphics are very close to that of Doom III, the graphical juggernaut. It uses a similar engine, by 'normal mapping'. I don't need to tell you how it works, just know this game has some of the best graphics you have ever seen, and that is no lie. Screens and movies don't do it justice. The sound is also flawless, more akin to that of a blockbuster movie. The game itself is fun to play. There are no tedious parts, and any 'casual' gamer can play through it in about 10 hours or less. There's a lot of things to go back to, and CoR has many memorable moments that you will love to come back to... but this game is not for those of weak stomachs. I guarantee you won't see a better licensed game this year.
