I have to say that im pleasently surprised with escape from butcher bay. Everything from the graphics to the gameplay just shines with hard work and detication to not making a crappy game. GRAPHICS: The graphics are simply amazing for an older game. Even by todays standards (or whenever they stopped making xbox games) the graphics are maybe THE best your going to get on the original xbox. The atmosphere feels dark and gritty as does the gameplay. The enviroments are vividly polished and very VERY impressive. GAMEPLAY: The gameplay in chronicles of riddick is very interesting. After picking up my copy of escape from butcher bay i'll admit that i didn't excpect much in the gameplay department, but this is one of those times that i'm glad i was proven wrong. The gameplay varies from a first person shooter to a stealth centered game in an instint (in a good way) although the gameplay does at times feel repetetive you'll be having to much fun to notice. AUDIO: The audio in chronicles is very impressive. The voice acting is completely top notch and very proffesional. So anybody who doesn't have this masterpeace......i mean game should go out there and buy chronicles of riddick escape from butcher bay. And for those of you who don't have a xbox or xbox 360 the sequal "assault on dark Athena" is also great fun for the ps3/xbox 360 owner. But i still reccomend escape from butcher bay.
Yeah, a forgotten gem for sure...

This game is easily one of the most overlooked games for the Xbox. I just recently gave it a run through and I have to say it stands up pretty well with today's PS3/360 games. The mapping and detail of all the characters and the walls is amazing. The controls are intuitive and easy to learn. I found this game at a Gamestop for 4.99. It is easily on par with Splinter Cell CT and Halo 2 as far as Xbox greats. If you haven't played it, play it. I just wish it was backward compatible for the 360.
Too good for its own... good

Looks: WOW. Normal mapping is THE way to go with graphics. I can't say how amazing this game looks. Cinemas? Who needs 'em, when they just integrate important dialogue into gameplay. The first scene, walking into the jail, took my breath away. Getting a chance to jsut gawk at my new dirty, but beautiful surroundings was a great idea. Animation is evenly as amazing. Sounds: First off, the script is great. Lines are right on cue, and make sense for each character. Punches sound real, too. Everything sounds just as you would expect them to, as if you were actually there. Enough said. Controls: FUN!!! I've never had that much fun in a virtual fist fight. Weapons are equally as fun to use. Nothing's more satisfying than walking up to someone who has a knife, reversing when they try to cut you, and stabbing them under the chin. Gunplay is also amazing, even though it doesn't come up a whole ton. No complaints, though. Gameplay: The length of the game felt right. Not agonizingly long, not disappointingly short. Some parts of the game may have you scratching your head for a second, but that's all; just one second. Between the mix of the game's looks and gameplay, you'll feel like you're in Butcher Bay. Fun: Movie games don't get much better than this. Action games don't get much better than this. Shooters don't get much better than this. Games PERIOD don't get much better than this. BUY NOW.

I really didn't expect much from this game so I held off until I could pick it up cheap. This is a kick ass game in every way. It is an incredible looking game but the graphics are still jaggy and blurred. This is a game you'll want to play through more than once. You can shoot, stun, stab and break necks in this game. I'm not very good at stealth games but I finished this one okay. Pick up this game even if you have to break out of prison to do it. I hope they make more with different prisons to bust out of.
great game

WOW. This is the best looking game on the X-BOX. Bar none. It is also the most surprising game in a long while. It came out of nowhere and blew me away. The best single-player game on the BOX because of its awesome graphics, the multilayered storyline, and adrinealine pumping action. The mulitiple conversation branches are great and allow for multiple playthroughs. The story keeps you guessing ecause...nevermind. Buy it for yourself to get this amazing game

Graphics 5.0 The graphics in the game are so good they look real. Oh and did mention the shadow casting. They are the most realistic video game shadows ive ever seen. sound 5.0 Im not quite sure if they are the same voice actors from the movie but they sure sound like them. Very cool controls 5.0 I peronally like the controls in the game. Stealth mode and gun mode. It reminds me of Sam fisher. The controls take some getting used to but with a little practice you automatically become an all around pro. Overall 5.0 good game. no wait, great game a must play
Surprisingly excellent

I'm not a fan of Vin Diesel, so it's reasonable to think that I wouldn't really like this game. However, once I started playing, I became hooked and haven't been able to put the game down since. The game, which serves as a Prequel to "Pitch Black," introduces you to the story and how things got to where they are now. Along the way, you use various gameplay techniques to reach your goals. Some levels have you sneaking around, avoiding the guards while other areas allow you to use a gun to shoot anything that moves. The story is excellent and provides all the incentive needed to continue further into the game. Vin Diesel's performance is great and easily makes you forget about the other things he's done that weren't so good. The graphics are excellent, the sound is good, and with the rock-solid gameplay, this is a must-have for any XBox owner.
Vin Diesel aint the best actor, but he makes one hell of a game

This one came out of the shadows and snapped the necks of our doubts like a twig. Escape from Butcher Bay is a shining example in the darkness that proves Hollywood and the game industry can form a perfect bond of fun and carnage. From the moment you enter the prison under armed escort, it's already apparent that this is going to be a cinematic experience all the way. Stealth is usually the order of combat, and there are no corny radars or bleebing noises. Instead the game uses an inovative color change to let you know whether your safe. Which has nothing to do with the governments silly color coded system. When your not snapping necks in the darkness you might be handling sub-missions in the prison yards for favors and cash, or sneaking around in a guard uniform. This is a nice touch since you can see what life is like on both sides and allows you to get in touch with the setting. From a graphical standpoint, this game has no match. The characters in the game are more lifelike than anything that has come before it, which is helped along by the excelent voice acting and music. Which leads to some exhilerating moments of guards tuanting you to come out as you stalk them in the darkness. But however great the game looks, it still lacks polish. There are some noticible aliasing problems and characters have patches of scenery showing through their bodies at times, but the great look overshadows that by a mile. Between all of the other activities mentioned above is the presumably exciting moment when you get your hands on a gun. But sadly these sequences boil down to mindless shootum up cliches. Meaning dumb AI (in comparison to the rest of the game anyway) and the notorious switch and item hunts. This only sounds bad because the rest of the game is so bad ass in every sense of the word, that you really feel like one. For the very short time that it lasts, Escape from Butcher Bay proves to be the most exciting experience around. Vin Diesel and all.
