I never thought I would ever play this game. I didnt even consider it worthy of being played. But when my friend told me about it, I didnt really care then either. It wasn't until a few nights ago at Movie Gallery did I pick up the game, check it out, play it, and was amazed. I like free roaming games, and as far as that genre is concerned: this game is king.

Good:The gameplay is simple: blow stuff up. And if you want to, blow it up some more. Call in an airstrike, set up C4, throw grenades, doesnt matter. Just blow it up. As it is with all mercenaries, your a hired gun for the military and youre torn between factions. In this game Allies, Chinese, Russian Mafia, and South Korea have teamed up to beat back the oppresive North Koreans. Sound familiar? Korean war, look it up. You go to the headquarters of each to learn about jobs that they want done. Thing is, these jobs are often against the other factions, which will cause you to become unpopular with them very quickly if too much blood is spilled. You also have to run around to look for certain things to increase your popularity with the factions and earn some money. Such as finding treasures, blueprints, and destroying listening posts. You can eventually get enough popularity to have cars airlifted in to you on the spot, awesome. Or if your low on health or ammo, have medkits and ammo sent to you. heck, eventually you can get the helicopter sent to you so you can fly it around.
Bad: But the anti-air missile carriers are too abundant for you to really explore things. Some NKs have RPGs, and they can almost rapid-fire the ammo. Just a few minutes ago I was in a heli, I tried picking up a tank but to no avail. The copter slammed into the ground, I got out just as it was blowing up. Which left me with little health. I set up a C4 to take out the tank and ran away. I didnt run far enough apparently, next thing I know, Ive died and Im back at the Allied MASH. I get in a nearby humvee and the game freezes.


Im a man of short temper. So you can imagine my reaction. I would have made your mother blush. SIDENOTE: Why cant people who rent games take care of them?


The graphics are nothing short of amazing. The free-roaming is just a plus. The transitions from night to day are awesome, but it tends to be quickly if your in a heli. The explosions are the best part, fiiiiiirrree. The sunsets are okay, and at night the moon shines bright enough for you to see around.

Of course, if youve ever read any of my other reviews, you'd know I have a mono TV. So the sound for me can be faded at times. I just have to face the right way in order to hear people. But other than that there are only a few problems. When you have a sniper rifle, and you shoot someone whos far off, you can hear them yell. Too loudly. You'd expect it to at least be subtle and soft, but its almost like your only a few yards away.

Im not sure how long it would take me to beat htis game, but the content in it is so vast that you'll want to just drive and run around after the game is through. Heck, you'll want to even though your playing it. Ive only got it for 5 nights, 2 nights are left and I wont be playing it tomorrow night (Going to Six Flags... alright) so Iim not sure how long it would take me to beat it.

This game easily ranks among my top favorites. I have a lot of games that I rate highly, but this game is at the top. Overlooking the few bugs and glitches and other problems, LucasArts and Pandemic (makers of Star Wars Battlefront; maybe thats why Han Solo's in it) have done an excellent job.

This game drops you in a complete warzone 5 nations fighting for one area. You have to give and take amoung the nations to reach your goal... the Ace of Spades a 100 million dollar bounty but before you do that there are about 52 other bounties standing in your way. Take control of weapons, cars, and air strikes to aid you in your quest. Its a great game to come back to even after you beat so you can experiment differant ways to destroy everything in sight.

i give it a 3.5 because it is ok but i lose interest in games fast and this is another game that lost my attention way to fast. i hope americas army holds me longer.

This game is totally worth the 45.00$ i spent on it. Its long expansive and as the case says"If you can reach it,you can drive it,fly it,steal it,shoot it,or destroy it. microsoft needs to design more games like this.

this game rocks @$$ so badly the cheats make it even more fun the gameplay may be like GTA, but it makes GTA look like a new franchise

This is the best game ever by Lucasarts. The graphics scored a 9.5 due to amazing particle effects. graphics:9.5/10 sound effects:9/10 longevity: 9/10 music:8/10 Plot:10/10 A must buy!

Many of you may not know who Pandemic is but they have put out such games as Star Wars Battlefront and Full Spectrum Warrior. I loved both of those games and I love their newest one-Mercenaries. You may think of this as another open ended GTA ripoff, well its not. Your choices in this game are limitless. For one the enviornment is completely destructible. Is a brick wall blocking your way? Call and airstrike and blow it to pieces! There are also limitless was to complete your missions. If you have to blow up a building you could 1. sneak in and plant C4 around it then run away and detonate it! 2. stand on a nearby hill and call in an airstrike to destroy it. 3. grab a tank and go through the front door destroying everything in you path. Now if you've played any game like GTA then you know how much fun hi- jacking things is. Well you can hijack anything you see and you can hijack...HELICOPTERS!!! Say a helicopter if flying near a cliff and gets too low, hijack it and watch the pilot plummet to his doom! The only complaints I have are that the AI is a little brain dead and you can't swim. If you stay in the water for more than a few seconds you will drown. Other than that Mercenaries is Pandemic's greatest creation yet! For those of you that have liked the 3 games Pandemic has put out (Star Wars Battlefront, Full Spectrum Warrior, and Mercenaries) then make sure to watch out for their next title Destroy all Humans! You play as an alien that obviously wants to destroy all humans. Watch out for this title in Spring 2005!

This is one of those games that you come across every once and a while. It plays like Max Payne but has the same qualitys of Grand Theft Auto. Like the commercial you can hijake, shoot, and blow anything up. I thought it had its ups, like being able to buy weapons, airstrikes, and vehicals. It also had a huge array of missions. But it does get old fast and the missions get repetitive. Its graphics are good and the sound is above average but the gameplay is okay. The missions seem to have multiple ways of completing but when it comes down to it the replay value is very low. Sure you can use an airstrike to destroy and enemy base or instead use c4. But if think about it the gameplay is pretty cut and dry. I recomend a rental but if you are going to buy it, buy it when it is cheap.

This is with out doubt one of the best games that I have played. Mercenaries is a perfect example of how an action game should be made. As I played this game there was nothing that I could find wrong with it, the graphics were stunning, the characters were well designed and each possessed their own unique personalities and appearance, the sound affects, voice-overs, and music were imersive and believable, the storyline and the missions were well thought out and they made sense. All in all Mercaneries is an excellent game and the only thing that could of made this game any better would of been the ability to issue comands and have the soldiers do what you want them to do, or maybe if the developers had added a multiplayer in regular game play. However even though that is not the case the game is still a great game and I would tottaly recommend buying this game.

This game's controls are very simple if you are familar with FPS games the maps arnt that big but the game makes up for that with its Visual and Audio effects if u like GTA titles then you should love this game it makes GTA titles look like childs play the visual effects are stunning the rifles almost sound lifelike and the explosions are realistic this game is definately worth 50 bucks
