Disney and Final Fantasy...works well again.

When I heard that Disney and Square-Enix were making a game together, my response was the same as many of yours. However, when I played the game, my response was also the same as many of yours. Kingdom Hearts was the beginning of a match made in heaven and RPG fans loved it. Now it's back in a much anticipated sequel. Kingdom Hearts II picks up one year after the first game and the events of Chain of Memories. The story, however, starts out with a large introduction starring a new character named Roxas, who was featured in the secret movie at the end of the first game. It is about three hours of gameplay that the real game begins. This alone may turn some fans off to the game, but most will stick with it. The Disney themed worlds return, but with no real new locations, save the world based on movie Mulan and Beauty and the Beast. The action still plays the same with a live action battle system, but with a new feature of Reaction Commands that are reminiscent of God of War. This game also introduces the new brand of enemies called the Nobodies, who behave much like the Heartless. Unfortunately, the camera is still a bit of a hindrance and serves to put a hamper on the action or when exploring. Many minigames, usually introduced through the main storyline, serve as a break in the action and can help to gain many rewards and rare items. One of which happens to be skateboarding, which is bound to make some fans of both the sport and gaming happy. Kingdom Hearts II was one of the most anticipated games of this year, and it didn't dissappoint. Hopefully, this series will continue to wow fans of two of the most adverse franchises in the world. It's worked three times so far, hopefully it will work again sometime in the future.

It totally owns you lamers.

After a long three and a half year wait, the sequel to one of Square's most popular new franchises has finally arrived in North America, but was it worth the wait? Hells yes. The story takes place after the events in the GBA game, Chain of Memories, after Sora is placed into a deep-sleep. The beginning FMV does a decent job of reflecting on what happened in CoM, for those who didn't have a GBA in order to play it. You start the game off with a mysterious character named "Roxas", who is on summer vacation in Twilight Town. The beginning of the game is very beginner friendly, so just about anyone can get the hang of it. Throughout Roxas' adventure, flashbacks of the previous game occur, so even newcomers to the series will understand a little bit about what happened in the first game. The beginning is a little slow, but it picks up after a few hours. Guaranteed. The graphics and characters look much like they did in the first game, with little improvement. Where the graphics truly shine though, is in Port Royal. The character models look incredible for something that was pumped out of the PS2. The Final Fantasy VII characters are in their Advent Children clothing, getting you into the mood to watch the movie (unless you already have that is). The soundtrack and voiceovers are top-notch. The actors who played Sora, Kairi, and Riku in the previous game return. Sora's voice has changed a lot, but fits because he is growing up. The Final Fantasy characters also sound great, with the exception of Aerith, whose voice makes me cringe each time I hear it. The music in each level captures the spirit of the movie perfectly. Some of the reenactments don't quite capture the original spirit of the movies though. In particular, the Lion King one isn't quite as intense as it was in the movie. Nonetheless, it does a damn good job. As usually, Nobue is a friggin' genious. The controls for the game have been vastly improved. The camera is much move movable and free that in was in the previous game. Instead of a low view, the camera is much further so you'll have an easier time avoiding ambushes from enemies. You can perform various combos and techniques with the square and triangle buttons as well. By pressing square at certain points in combos, you can extend the combo and dish out even more damage. Like in God of War, there are moments when you'll have to press triangle very precisly in order to pull of special techniques. Both of these things add a lot of flavor to the gameplay instead of the old mash-X-all-the-time routine. Sora can also go perfom drives, in which he merges with another character in order to gain special powers. For example, in Valor form, Sora merges with Goofy, and so, he can wield two keyblades to give enemies the beat-down even harder. Special combos and finishing moves can be used in these forms. They can make the gameplay much easier, or harder, if you become Anti-Sora. You'll find out when you play it. In Kingdom Hearts 2, a mysterious band of characters, called Organization XIII is out for Sora and his powers. Very little is known about them at first, but you'll gradually learn about them as the game goes on. The accursed Gummi-Ship has been returned, but is much faster and intense than it was in the previous game. Instead of a slow, boring, standard rail-shooter, the game throws enemies in at all angles and keeps you on your toes. There is also a mission structure for those of you who like the Gummi Ship system. It's a great improvement over the first Gummi Ship system. Kingdom Hearts 2 is a great improvement over it's first game, and is sure to please all KH fans. And of course, it totally owns you lamers, so play it now.

"Kingdom Hearts 2 triumps over the original. TwoThumbs up SquareEnix"

I have t0 admit; At first I was rather sceptical of a sequal. I didn't like the original as much I thought I was. But the long-awaited sequal has definitly reddemed itself. Read on to understand why. I would like to first start of by saying that what I like best about KH 2 is the storyline. The main character, Sora, has grown up and has become a dark person. The tone of the story edges closer to the older croud as well, almost in a "Jackish" kind of way. There are so many surprises and twist to the story that I can;t talk about here. But KH 2 does not slide on the account that there are repitive missions that you could have sworn were done two hours before. And also the characters that reprise there roll from the first game seem a bit stressed on. almost if there not getting enough spotlight. But if SquareEnix can work off the successs of this one, the maybe, just maybe the 3rd one (oops!) will truly reach epic level.

Square-Disney has done it again!

First of all, I would like to congratulate the cast and crew of Kingdom Hearts II for such an awesome job. Kingdom Hearts II brings you back to Sora, Donald and Goofy one year after the previous game continuing their search for his lost friends. In this sequel, a lot of twists revolves around the plot. This makes the KHII a whole lot more interesting. A bunch of new worlds and characters are also introduced adding more chaos, trouble and fun. And with new characters come new exciting actors as well such as Christopher Lee, Jesse McCartney and a whole lot more. As for the musical scores, I couldn't say anything more than simply amazing! Every town has been captured beautifully by the mood of the breath-taking compositions. This is, I believe the reason behind the success of Kingdom Hearts and is done again in the sequel. The sad thing is... KHII is short! It only needs a few couple hours to get it finished. I was expecting it could last at least fifty hours of game play. But anyway, i still recommend Kingdom Hearts II to all. Its one of only a few games that anybody could play and finish.

More game, less movie please.

Kingdom Hearts II starts out with too many cinematics and too few moments of actual gameplay. At the start literally every new area you enter begins a new cinema with maybe a couple of enemies to fight, if your lucky. This quickly becomes tiresome as some of the cinematics seem superfluous, and could have been given up for the sake of more gameplay. Though, about half way it evens out more and relies more on the great fighting system unique to this game. The fighting is very intersting, giving the player multiple options. With fast and furious fighting moves, magic, drives, summons, and your two other party members fighting alongside, it never becomes tiresome. This is especially true since the system encourages you to vary your attacking methods with summons and drives that level up as you use them, adn a magic guage that fills up your drive guage when your out of magic point to use. However, aside from the gameplay, the story is certainly interesting and mysterious, but unbalanced. It has many questions, only answered much later into the game, and quite a few of the stories within the many different worlds are just rehashes of the classic Disney story. Nostalgic, but boring at times. The second half of the game however has less story, much more gameplay and is more original. Taht second half is great. So, overall, I give it a 4.0 for its interesting story, superb fighting, amazing cinematics, and strong characters, but at times the cinematics are too much and it has an unbalanced flow and story progression.
