I love it when developers try new ideas for games that have a theme to 'em. This way, it isn't just a desperate attempt at something creative most of the time, because they know what they are doing. And what they can do that and add great gameplay to the mix? It's a wrap. That's the story of Viewtiful Joe, a cool action game that presents itself in an unserious, movie production kind of way. The game sports cel shaded graphics, cartoonish action and a movie-like premise, right down to the fact that when you lose a life, it says 'cut.' The game is fast paced, but can be slowed down, as you can slow down time during combat. You play as a guy who becomes a superhero, and in turn travel, in side scrolling fashion, through areas and beating up bad guys. The combat is very fun, and allows you to speed up time, slow down time, and do action poses that net you points. The game has a premise of so you gain more points for stylish, beautiful, and 'Viewtiful' moves. The game is fun and addictive, and has some humor to it. There are various difficulties, that can get down right punishing, but that's where the fun lies. Finding out light puzzle solutions, boss weaknesses, and what upgrades to buy before the next level are also things that shake up the action. This game is a treasure, and will have you saying the main character's catchphrase (the one in the title) for a while.

This game redefines the action-platformer...Viewtiful Joe is an unappreciated gem, emblematic of the now-defunct Clover Studios, but a game that, in the of the best old-school games, demands to be played over and over again. The Special Effects that Joe unleashes on his hapless foes are nothing short of breathtaking, and, when chained together, are simply addictive and ooze cool. Joe himself is an everyman, but his Viewtiful alter ego is brash, stylish, and has arguable the best catch-phrase in all of video game-dom. You will find yourself uttering the words "Henshin-a-Go-Go, baby!", and desperately tapping your watch in hopes of being able to slow time, speed up your own movements, and capture the unique brand of cool that VJ represents. The sights and sounds are top-notch, and if you have any bit of old-school in you, you will fall in love with this game immediately.

fun

This game is pretty fun, I'm playing through it for the second time. The setup is really fun, and although it can be hard, it's really good.

POW, KICK, SMACK, PUNCH, BOOOOOOOOOM!

Viewtiful Joe is the best Gamecube game out now. It has amazing visuals. It uses 3D characters and objects on a 2D background whihc is really cool and gives the game it's sorta cartoony feel. The animation is terrific, as all Joe's moves look really cool and there's never a stiff animation or an animation that looks dodgy. And the frame rate is 100% smooth with no slowdown (unless you use the slowdown power). The sound is on a similar level to the graphics. The effects are flawless, with gunshots, explosions, and lots of other effects like the swoosh of a helicopter. They are cool and suit the action. The music is great as well, as it suits the action as the rock music suits the movie theme. The voice work is good as well with terrific dialogue. The thing that makes VJ unique is the superhero powers you can use. You can slow down and speed up time, as well as zoom in to do some deadly moves close up. These powers are really cool and spice up the action a bit, but the action would still be great even without the powers. VJ is really cool and a must have for any Gamecube owner.

Viewtiful Joe is Viewtastic

This game is by far the best 2-D/3-D action game that capcom has released since. The graphics are absolutely amazing and the sound is great on surround. The story is the same as any hero story, girl gets kidnapped by badguy, hero finds badguy, beats badguy, and saves girl. Overall it's pretty viewtiful!

How can you dis this game

Viewtiful Joe-need I say more? Plenty has been said, all I have to add is that this game fits the Gamecube perfectly. A unique story, with a unique hero. How many heroes you know can control time in a movie. Only people who haven't outgrown their imagenation can apperiate it. End result: cool game. People who don't know about heroes need not apply.

why would anyone give this game a 5?

this game is good dont get me wrong. with innovative gameplay and 5.0 everything EXCEPT fun factor. with bad replay value that is just about as sour as beating it all the way through the first time by the time ur to the last boss. every boss is overly difficult to the point where beating them the first time is so insane that u want to kill something by the time u figure out how to kill it AND then still have to beat it. this is both good and bad but mainly bad even tho i like difficult games. AND its short. i could take a hard crap on all of the glory in every aspect of control and sound and graphics for some more varied normal units. the minibosses r fun but why not make the normal units more varied like in metroid prime where 2 units are not alike except space pirates and metroids. g/-\y name great game but to repetitive in every aspect of levels. beat the units that u have already beaten a jillion times before and then beat the insane bosses. HAVE FUUNN!

Damn sexy

If ever there was a game that could attest to the argument that games are a form of art this is it. Games with this much style and flare come along never. Until now. Joe schmoe is sucked into the cinemas that he loves to attend and must save his beloved and viewtiful Silvia. In his battles he is gifted with visual effects that you would find in your latest Jerry Bruckheimer movie. This is the essence of what gives this game its pin ouch. The zany cell shading graphics start this out. Well it makes it feel more like a comic book they do give Joe that extra oomph to make him the celluloid hero that he is. The rocking sound track pumps you up and gets you in the mood to crack skulls in style and grace. The voice acting also well hard to understand, will get to you every time. If only all villians had accents like Gran Bruce or Hulk Davidson. Directors spend millions of dollars on special affects. I can have them with the push of a button. And the button pushing is set up in the simplest way, which just happens to be the best. Yes it is short and has a story as week as your average summer blockbuster, but who cares. With characters, game play, and innovation like this you shouldn't. It's nice to see a fresh beam of sunlight in a dark room. It's a shame it didn't sell very well.
