This is a great game for wrestling and rap fans alike. It coulda been better, but it's a gr8 1st attempt. The sequel very much improved on the mechanics.
good fighting but a lame game

this game has fun graphics and cool characters and cool fighting but i just really dont like fighting games. this game can also be 2 long or 2 short. my longest was 25 minute for a 1v1 fight and a 1v1 game i played only lasted 19 sec. .. so i dunno i dont like it
Well, we have a winner!

Graphics: 5.0 You'd be very surprised to see almost life-like graphics on a wrestling game with rappers, but the visuals are solid on the wrestlers, not so much on the crowd, they look like paper soldiers or something. Sound: 5.0 The game brings the paper soldier crowd and the solid wrestlers to life, bringing rants, raves and all other matter. It does have a great soundtrack to boot! Control: 5.0 One of the "pick-up-and-play" varieties of wrestling games and boy you can do a helluva lot of stuff. What stood out in this game of rappers and wannabes of EA Big's imagination is that,as the old saying goes, "if white men can't jump, black men can't wrestle",while the great wrestling moves like the Death Valley Driver and the Chokeslam interact with the zany, improvised moves of EA Big, EA pays attention to wrestling detail and to wrestling itself, having a great storyline from begining to end. And you'll never know what to expect the first time you'll play it, just like some of the writers of the WWE.
DJV is great for a first effort

Def Jam is great, but just not the best. maybe if it had create-a-wrestler or some more secrets and unlockables, it would have been better. After beating it on the highest level, it gets kind of boring. Here to a better and much improved sequel.

When I got the game I was expecting a good game. The graphics are really nice and sharp. The moves they perform are awesome, but the game lacks in game play. You can be waxing the computer and have them down to zero and they could come back and beat you. The comp in this game is really cheap, they begin to block all your moves and they run away when you are in blazing mode. I got really bored of this game really fast. For me its should be rented first before you purchase the game.
The Best Wrestling Game for a Nintendo System Since No Mercy

When I first heard reports of Def Jam Records hooking up with EA to make a wrestling game I was very skeptical. I love hip-hop, and I still have a flame for wrestling so the thought of Method Man and DMX squaring off was appealing. The thing that scared me was that EA was making the game. This immeadiatley brough back flashbacks of the less than memorable WCW Mayhem and Backstage Assault for the N64. Then came a shining light through the gray cloud, AKI (responsible for developing, WCW World Tour, Revenge, WWF WrestleMania 2000 and No Mercy) was signed on to develop the game. This game is hands down the best wrestling game I've played in almost 3 years. Better than PSX's SmackDown and definitely better than WrestleMania X8. The only way the controls could have been better was if the 'Cube had a port that let you use your old N64 controllers because that's exactly how the game felt (and believe me that's a good thing). Graphic wise the rappers look dead on to real life counterparts and the ring and the ring area looked very nice. The sounds were also excellent (WARNING: The only words I heard bleeped out started with "N" and "F" everything else was audible) providing some new cuts along with Old School favorites. The only complaint I have with this game is the complete lack of weapons (except for the nickel-plated piece that D-Mob carries). Other than that this is an excellent game and gets my recommendation.
