Good for a few minutes

The graphics are great, even though they don't need to be. The orthagonal view doesn't require the high quality that the graphics are. The camera can't be moved on some boards, which makes those levels rather frustrating since you can't adjust the view to better see what monsters are in front of you. This also makes ranged weapons almost useless on these levels. The story, though interesting is very linear and the second play isn't any different from the first. The different characters don't have any unique missions. The way the game plays makes me think it's more of an Adventure game than a role playing game. The best thing about this game is its shallow learning curve and that it's easy to pick up and play when you have just a few minutes to kill.

rocks my socks off

Pretty much one of the sweetest forgotten realms games of all time. Huge world lots of skill, but not a very good character building system. If you dont have this game, get it

As good as it looks. Beautiful!

Absolutely amazing detailed graphics, solid gameplay, and stunning voiceacting. More than a hundred weapons, armor, spells and magic items to purchase, loot, and use. (One gripe is that midway through the game, the sorceress can master certain spells that literally too easily spell certain doom for the villians. In other words, choose the right spells for her, and the monsters will have no chance. ) The game should have been made at least 10 hours longer, but the 15-20 hours you do spend playing it, will be a tremendous experience. In short, an awesome medieval hack and slash, action packed, sonically and graphically intense RPG.

Great D&D RPG for Xbox

Great D&D RPG for Xbox. Good story and AI for monsters. Well designed and developed characters. Just fun to play if you like D&D RPG games. One of the best I have played.

Better then Final Fantasy? I think not! Better then Hunter? Most likely.

This game is everything except a movie, book, or a comic. It does do well in places, like you get to up your character on your own, unlike in Kingdom Hearts where it does it itself. The graphics are good, but could have been better, the water by the way was quite satisfying. The batte system wasn't bad at all just the one problem was you couldn't lock on when you had a ranged weapon. Now that, my friends, is a downfall. Your could sit there all day trying to hit one guy and spend all you arrows! Luckly they melee weapons involved. You can't upgrade them, but you do get a big variety of weapons and armor. The controls are good, not problems over here. The gameplay was satisfying, especially with a friend. So, I give it, well, you should know.

Pretty good game

i gave it a 3.5 cause its a really fun game but it doesnt take long to beat. If you want a good 1 player RPG go buy morrowind and skip this game. This game is more fun with two people. It is also very easy to cheat in this game because u can import characters. This makes the game cheap. I say this is a rent game. Seeing as though i beat it in the time i had it from renting.

good game

baldurs gate is overall a good game. but the rpg of it is sorta dumb. the level growing is basic. you cant really make your own decisions, all the things you can do are listed, which makes it boring. you cant attack the good people, that is dumb. so the rpg part of it is quite dull and boring and useless. the action gameplay of it is good though, it is sorta like diablo 2's. if it was an action categoried game, it would match it more. the graphics and sound and all that is very good, so overall, this is a good game, without the RPG aspect.

Remembering the Forgotten Realms

You've got a game, and it's called Baldurs Gate. You play this game on your PC for 8 hours a day, for 2 months straight, and at the end of the game you're breathless. Your character is as powerful as you dreamed, and the storyline of the game was fulfilling and open-ended. You used your smarts, and you made it. Then your friend gets a game on his PC, and it's called Diablo. And you start to wonder what a game with graphics and character effects like Diablo, but the storyline and playability of Baldurs Gate would do to you. You think it would be too insane. You convince yourself that its probably better these two games are apart, since they could never be married in one title and appease both the hack n slash gamer and the questing/adventure gamer. Well you were way off buddy. This game is a smash right from the opening soundtrack and graphics. The fact I can jump and move around, swinging and slashing, picking up items and dropping them like in Diablo is great. The monsters detail is really good, and the fighting is rewarding. On the flip side, you've got a quest, but you've got a ton of other things you can do. It's less linear than Diablo, and more like an AD&D game should be. It gives you choices. X-Box definitely has a winner with this title for both the casual gamer, and the hardcore AD&D fan. I just remembered what those 2 months in the Forgotten Realms were like, and I've informed my friends and family that I will be unavailable for 8 hours a day, for a little while.

Much Needed RPG action

I was imediately impressed with the graphics in this game, rich detailed textures, lively characters, good atmospheric effects such as lighting, water etc. The storyling is also decent, while not exactly so engrossing you will never want to play any other game for 6 months, it is not boring at all. Characters (NPC's) have their own problems, their own personalities, and the voice-overs are not done too badly. The music composition is very suiting, and really adds to the over all atmospheric quality that seems to be reminiscent of Lord of the Rings (D&D was based after LOTR book, so the similarity in monsters, races etc. is not surpising). Control is really simple, easy to learn and master. Everything is pretty basic, one button for attack (basic) one for magic, one for jumping etc. Jumping is relatively easy, as long as you make sure you have the right perspective (controlled with right thumbstick). Over all, BG: DA is a good game, well worth buying, or at the very least renting if you are in need of some RPG action, or just love D&D/LOTR style themes. This game is challenging (even on easy...) and has enough going for it to make it worth the money, however if you own the PS2 version, you won't find anything new here really (maybe faster loading/memory card free saving etc.). Graphics: 4.0 (great, but not ground breaking.) Sound: 4.0 (Suits this game greatly, not annoying, but not memorable.) Control: 4.0 (Good control, but if you look at the mini-map, instead of the actual game, its easy to get stuck). Fun Factor: 4.5 (Genuinely a fun game to play, good storyline, and plenty of action that is challenging and makes you use that "thing" between your ears.
