Having played every main Mario game since Super Mario Bros., it felt weird to me that for the longest time I missed out on Super Mario Sunshine. The only reason was that I didn't have a Gamecube. Eventually I got a gamecube, and Windwaker. I then found Sunshine at a yard sale for 5 dollars and immediately picked it up. At first glance, the game seems fun but not usual Mario quality. But after the chase through Delfino Plaza is over, and you enter into your first true level; the game is absolutely awesome.
The level design is perfectly suited for the FLUDD attachment. With jump gaps just long enough to either get through with a long jump, or make it with the hover mode. The game has a nice mixture of sort of flat levels, to great vertical levels, with difficulty ranging from fairly easy to challenging. The graphics are amazing especially for a Gamecube game. The levels in which you get your FLUDD taken away are very creative and challenging, adding to a nice break in the action.
The controls work very well, with the occasional stick every now and then where mario doesnt turn around as he should. Some may get mad that Mario makes an extra small hop when jumping close to a ledge. It is slightly annoying but doesn't make much of a difference.
The story is typical Mario, which it's typical minor spin on what is ultimately the same story. If your a fan of Mario or platforming in general, and you have a gamecube or Wii, i suggest giving this a try. I'd suggest playing it and then playing Mario Galaxy, it'll make you more prepared for what Galaxy throws at you.
Let the sunshine in, but don't expect too much.

As with any Mario game, you know what to expect and understand that it will be at least a good game and a must own on that system. This game is no different.
Story- Mario, Peach, and Bowser. You know what to do. In actuality, the story is pretty bland and something that you don't really care for. You collect stars...err..."Sun Sprites" in order to proceed with the game. The new locale and characters are a nice touch from the beaten path that is Mario games, but don't expect anything beyond that.
Gameplay- The juiciest part of the game. The gameplay is fun and a bit innovative. The introduction of F.L.U.D.D. and its various nozzles adds a lot to the game. From a Super Soaker to a jetpack, there are plenty of added gameplay moves to be gained. Combat is rather bland, but its not the focus. All you have to do is soak everything that moves, and jump on them in necessary. But the platforming is where the game shines. With and without F.L.U.D.D., the games wanting of you to explore and experiment is its best ability. And there are plenty of secrets and extras to keep you satisfied.
Audio/Visual- No surprises here. Audio is great, and you will undoubtedly hum along with the familiar tunes. As for graphics, they aren't stunning, but they appeal to the design. Water effects are rather nice, and colors are vibrant and easy on the eyes. But the details are somewhat bland.
In conclusion-A definite buy for anyone who owns a Gamecube or a Wii and enjoys platforming. While there have been bad things said about this game, it's rather enjoyable to anyone who has a liking for platforming games or Mario in general. And nowadays, its price being no more than $15, its a great purchase. Though its uninspired story and combat leave players wanting more, they can be overlooked in this instance.

this a realy fun game. one of the best mario games ever, if not the best. you start of on the isle of dailfino (sorry about the spelling) and yo are occused of basically distroying the island with griffiti like stuff. well you have to clean it up. after that the fun starts to happen. there are tons of levels, cool power ups and you can ride yoshi. also there are so many secrets in the game. it is also easy to pick up and play cuz its not too hard. the only problem would be the camara. but overall its a really fun game, and it needs to be played if you can find it!
Not as bad as people say

Ok here's the plot mario comes with the princess and toadsworth to an island. Well a evil clone of mario starts dirtying up the town so mario gets blamed for it. So mario has to clean up the mess and find out who's the clone and why is he doin this. Well this game isn't as good as 64 this is a pretty good game with good graphics. The only thing about this game is well it just doesn't have that kind of mario game feeling. But it still is pretty good. 4.25 out of 5
Disappointing

Super Mario Sunshine starts off with Mario and peach taking a vacation to the most popular island in the Mario world: Isle Delfino. They arrive at the airstrip only to find a major problem,Mario has a doppleganger.Mario has been sentenced to clean up the mess that his doppleganger made. This is where the game starts going. The game looks tremendous,it has some of the best graphics of any game of this generation.Sadly, it seems that this game tries to hard to be only a platform,as the enemies are in small numbers and are easy to kill. For those that don't like F.L.U.D.D,you will enjoy the classic levels where Mario will have no help from the watercannon on his back. The game seems short though, and just like LOZ: WW,Super Mario sunshine is nothing compared to its N64 predecessor. If you like a game that seems nonthreatening and beautiful,i suggest you buy this game, but adults will probably have to look somewhere else if they want a serious game.
A Kick-Ass Mario Gem!

Mario has done it again! This is one for the ages, one of the best Mario games ever. How did they do it? Take Super Mario 64. Add a water cannon. Amp up the graphics. Amp up the sound. Amp up the controls. Switch Stars and Shine Sprites. And amp up the fun! With all the witty challenges, a witty plot, and witty everything else, this is a no brainer. If you are a Gamecube owner, just buy it. Unless you have no soul, you will love this game.
