an intriguing, if rather overrated, gaming experience

this game has developed something of a cult following in recent years, these people acting as though this game is some sort of god (hopefully not one of judeo-christian orientation), but truthfully, it's a very good game held up by an incredible presentation and brought down by overly simplistic gameplay. but that's what you get when a game that goes a bit beyond the norms of gaming conventions in one way or another becomes largely overlooked by the general gaming public.

the game is an on-rails shooter involving your character traveling through cyberspace, blasting away viruses, and repeating this process till the game ends. first of all, yes this game is a visceral experience unlike any other (well, except for maybe other tetsuya mizuguchi games). the trippy, vibrant, flashing colors and unique approach to music (every shot fired emulates an electronic percussion beat, surprisingly staying in synch with the rest of the music, no matter how haphazard you may fire). it's a sensory overload that is sure to kill an epileptic or two that dare take on this game. the problem? take away the aesthetics and you'd have what is basically yet another generic on-rails shooter. as you move forward, you aim, and fire at your pushovers for opponents. it's not a very difficult game at all, and shouldn't take you long to blow through the whole thing. ultimately it's the style that carries the game, and does a pretty good job at that, lifting this game from mediocre and disposable to an enjoyable game.

while it's not quite as good as it's been cracked up to be by its extremely devoted fanbase, it's definitely something that should be played and experienced at least once.

Trippy...Just Trippy

Finally, a game that can be seen as real art...Take that Jack Thompson! Unfortunately, that is about all this game is worth. Although the game can prove strangely addictive, it takes more than tripped out visuals and music that only rave fans could truly appreciate to overcome it's painfully short length. Anyone who is a veteran of side-scrolling shooters could probably finish this game in just under two hours. Anyone else may have a little trouble with the last level, but that's about all the challenge it has to offer. Was it mentioned that level 5 is the last level and Rez's only unlockable? It is nice that there is a game mode that allows you unlimited health just for those times you want to "relax" but a longer length and a higher challenge combined with it's tripped out art style could have made this a must have. It's worth a rental just to see this game in action but as it is, that's all it's worth.

one of a kind

this a gem of a game to play. So what if it has wire frame visuals? There is no other game like this. Regardless of what type of games you like, you need to try rez. It is beautiful and unique. Too bad it's so rare.

Short But Sweet

The last time I saw Sega was when they left me clutching my Dreamcast with a tear in my eye. Sega is like an old lover you keep coming back to. They made some weird choices like favoring Xbox while releasing odd titles for PS2. Not that I'm complaining, since I will take what I can get. Well enough bitter sweet memories. Rez is a unique and special game. With wire frame graphics and odd visuals that almost look unfinished. This game is like a combination of Frequency, Tempest and Panzer Dragoon. The music jams and they have a special mode where you can just relax and enjoy the show. The game is short but sweet and you have to wonder why they couldn't have added more levels. Go out and buy this rare game and hold it dearly for it may never pass your way again.

5 areas-A Big NO-NO

It has been 3 months since the release of Rez and I don't have it on that day. Now its the end of the world for me, But since my mom take me to Best Buy, My world is still saved. Rez is now in my Playstation 2 and I am not gonna st*p playing. Just a spoiler to me (not for anybody) there are 2 endings, A Good ending & Bad ending. But that's plenty enough for me. Such graphics, It's like a real world of music=5.0, The sound is synced to the music very well=5.0, The control is so simple you only need a control stick and 2 buttons=5.0, Fun Factor=4.5. I didn't know 5 areas is so short. A BIG NO-NO. UGA, You gotta do better than that.

Rez- a refreshing change of pace

Rez is definitely one of the most interesting games I have ever played. It seamlessly blends so many gaming elements together into one incredible experience. It is a nice break from all the standard video game genres and is worth playing. It may turn some away by it's wire frame visuals but I URGE people to give up your preconcieved notions and just try it. If you try it you're in for a treat because Rez is very addicting and a lot of fun to play. If you have any interest in games you owe it to yourself and the gaming industry to play Rez. Outstanding visuals, outstanding music, outstanding game!

The games real good and the music is even better . Yes you find many secrets but I till say its short like 20 areas would do a game like this justice.Definitly a buyer though. :)
