NHL 2002- An okay game to get!!!

GRAPHICS- 5.0- the graphics in this game are freaking cool! you can see the players reactions, shoots, face-offs and a whole lot of other cool stuff! the crowd looks very realistic and the cut-scenes are excellent! I have a hard time believing that this game was made in 2002!!! SOUND- 4.0- Every single sound in this game kicks ass, from music all the way to shooting!! I think the sum 41 music really matches this game, but the barenaked ladies music does not really match this game. Another shame is that there is NO PLAYLIST!!! the music factor is not THAT great but it sure is okay!! CONTROLS- 5.0- the controls are awesome in every single way! it is very easy to learn the controls and the best part is that you dont need practice!!, AND, there is absolutely no slow-down! man, do i ever have a hard time believing this game was made in 2002!! FUN FACTOR- 3.0- okay, this is where this game gets bad! Most people that play this game play it for about an hour and that's It! that rule goes for me too! This game gets extremely boring after a while! RENT, BUY, OR DONT PLAY- My closest guess is rent! beacuse this game sadly gets boring!!! BUT, if you absolutely love hockey games and can't get enough of them, BUY IT!!!

I like this game a lot. The graphics to me look pretty good. I have not played this game on any other system so i can not compare. The controls to me are very easy to learn. The sound is good. The camera views everybody is talking about is not bad at all. Well atleast to me. I say if you have not played this game yet then do so.

EA never does sports games wrong

This game is the most realistic hockey game I'v ever played. I recomend this game to anyone who likes hockey. You'll get plenty of good multiplayer in this game.

EA scores again with NHL 2002 for Xbox(r)

This game is great. It does need a little smarter AI,but that dosent ruin the whole game.It has good play control and the graphics are good.REplay is high.

This game rocks!

The xbox version features several interesting alterations over the ps2 version. The rosters are more current, and the framerate is incredibly smooth. And also the graphics are much better.

Hard Core Hockey Fans Beware

The other reviews tell the basic story of this game. Great graphics right down to authenic player faces and detailed arenas. That part of the game is worth the 1.5. Now for the true facts. The AI in this game sucks. Hey guys from EA SPORTS, AI means artificial intelligence, something your game and you are lacking. How many NHL games did these programers watch anyways. Never in an NHL game have I seen players fly over the boards, ignore a loose puck in the neutral zone, and skate to the ice to take their appointed position, then turn and play the puck. Didn't this type of AI go out of style on the Genesis? Then theres the sound. I live in Canada and know both these announcers quite well from a hockey fan viewpoint. The audio gets so old and boring that by the time the second game rolls around I really don't care who they email their complaints too. Now the thing that pisses me off most about this game is puck control. Sure hockey is fun when your checking people and stealing the puck and scoring, but true hockey greatness comes from puck control. How do you improve on this feature. Well the first thing you do is kill the speed burst button, assign speed stats to each player based on their actual speed, and play and setup the game more like basketball or football. What, did I just say play hockey like basketball or football, yes that's what I said. You don't actually think players go out on the power play or penalty kill and just do whatever they please do you. If you believe that then this is a great game. I found the puck control and AI more believable on NHL HITZ 2002, and at least the fights lasted more than 3 seconds. Perhaps Gamepro's reviewer should spend less time blaming Microsoft for his inability to use a game controller, and more time looking at a game company which has so far produced nothing but crap for the Xbox.

NHL 2002 [X-Box]

EA's newest puck product has amateurs in awe, and pros in pain. The graphics are great, like expected, but EA didn't put as much effort in as necessary to make a genuine X-Box game. The modes of play are packed with fun. You can go "Cup Crazy" for 10 years, or simply just play exhibition games and earn some 'NHL Cards', the same used in Madden. The gameplay also comes equipped with some high-flying moves such as the saucer pass, etc. You can't go mad with cheap shots like in NHL Hitz 20-02, but there are still lots of fun ways to take your opponent out of the play. The problem with the game lies in the difference between its PS2 counterpart. Almost all of the features are the same and so are the graphics! If you want a lame makeover of the ps2 version, then here's your game. Not to mention, there isn't any other realistic game out there, so you're stuck with this for now. If you want a good bone- crunching hockey game, join the Hitz bandwagon, if not, you're out of a good hockey game this year. EA Sports could have made it better, but it's still not what you'd come to expect out of an X-Box game. The Final Verdict: There's always next year... Mike Salerno NYYankezrlz@aol.com
