What a game should be.

Pros Cons
Epic boss fights
Intense action
Addictive gameplay
Tight controls

Being a fan of the franchise for years, I was totally amazed on how well put together this game was. The graphics weren't state of the art, but it doesn't need them to be a great game. The soundtrack was awsome and inspiring. I couldn't find anything wrong with the gameplay. Prime had just the right amount of control, level difficulty, and inginuity. The button reaction timing was spot on and the puzzle solving to proceed through each level was balanced. I was surprised at how well certain atmospheric and invirons reacted with Samus's helm such as mist, or condesation collecting on her screen, to a blast from an enemy's cannon fire causing her own reflection to appear momentarely on her face plate. All information was easily accessible to her HUD screen and stored for later use. Though there were times that I became frustrated with certain areas of the game, it was nice to know that the mistakes I made were of my own rather than poor game construct.

WOW

Bringing a 2D classic to the gamecube had me skeptical at first. I was scared after viewing the screens, the camera kinda through me off. Still after all this metroid prime changed my mind. the game is great. A true classic. The camera view worked great. The boss battles were awesome. But the thing that made this game great for me was how the developer kept all the great features of previous metroid game. they also improved many of theses features too. This game is great and should be played by anyone who owns a GC or Wii.

The best 1st person Metroid ever

No one thought Retro Studios could bring Metroid into the 3D world. They proved us wrong. This game is essentially like any other Metroid, except that its in 1st person view. There is still lots of areas to explore like the fire world of Magmoor Caverns to the icy overworld of Phendrana Drifts (which by the way has the best music in the game). You still find hidden powerup, life tanks and other stuff. I saw this game at Gamestop for $5 so this is a really good buy.

A great transistion from 2D to 3D

As a long time fan of Metroid, I was curious to see how the 2D side-scroller would make the transformation to a first person shooter. Thankfully, it is faithful to the series, yet it is different enough to keep it from feeling like any other Metroid adventure. If the series wasn't hard enough in 2D, the difficulty only ramps up in this game since the world is huge, the enemies are smart and will take an chance they get to attack you, and save points in this game are sparse. Oh and did I mention every time you die, which will be alot, you have to start from your last save? The soundtrack is catchy and the sound effects aren't too bad either. The graphics are great, but the special effects steal the show as it is incredible to see things through a thermal imager, an x-ray viser, and to see your visor fog up after walking in front of a steam pipe. I will admit I didn't like the controls, but they will grow on you. In the end, this game is for anyone who is a longtime fan of Metroid or anyone looking for a great challenge.

Metroid Prime

A pretty good game with decent graphics. It is a single shooter with a lot of potential that is wasted on a poor arsenal of weapons. Could use more detail to accuracy. Still a great game for gamecube fanatics.

Samous Aran

I haven't played it all the way through but, I have hardley ever had an action packed game like this in a long time(that I haven't already played. So I gave it a big 5.00.

Life behind the visor

There's some things in this world that just don't go together. Add Metroid and first-person shooters to the list. In theory, it seems like this game should be a kick-ass FPS. After all, you're basically playing as a giant walking suit with a cannon for an arm. This should blow Halo out of the water. Sadly, for FPS fans, this game lacks action, focusing more on puzzle-solving, which run-and-gun fans like me hate - and the times you do face off against enemies, it's maddeningly difficult. For Metroid fans, this game requires a huge learning curve which should frustrate a lot of people. There's really no middle ground. Hopefully, when Prime 3 is released on the Wii, it will make use of the WiiMote and make this a respectable FPS franchise. But on the Gamecube, it just don't fly.

Metroid Prime: Another Nintendo great

Nintendo has made a reputation for itself for making great games. Especially in the 2D aspect. So the thought of a 3D metroid game seemed a bit odd at the time. Yet, the way the Developers of this game managed to fluidly transform this game from a 2D game to a 3D so magically and flawlessly is enough for awe. Game series history aside Metroid Prime is still an amazing game by todays standards. The Graphics are beautiful, The music is moody and so so great in every aspect, The Gameplay offers a unique and adventurous experience for a long time. The game is just so memorable in many places. Even now that some time has passed and next generation systems are here I can think back on Metroid Prime and remember memorable sequences/events such as I've felt in games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Enormous creatures emerging slowly and dramatically, Adrenaline pumping, thrilling, and very memorable Boss battles, and so much more. Sure the controls aren't that of a typical First Person Shooter but there's the thing, Metroid Prime isn't a typical FPS. I would say it's not a FPS at all. Really the only way I can describe this game is a First Person Adventure game. Metorid Prime is a game that can be played and enjoyed by just a typical gamer looking for a thrill. But to a true Metroid fan or just someone that can really appreciate and capture the beauty and subtle but amazing aspects of this game it will be a memorable fun experience.
