The Darkness Has Arrived

Nintendo and Silicon Knights struck gold with this title. An expansive game in which you play as different characters in different time periods, Eternal Darkness is one game that is sure to satisfy fans of the survival/horror genre. Hell, it may even top Resident Evil! The best part of the game has to be the sanity meter, which depletes whenever you see an enemy. If the meter gets to low, some wierd things start to happen. I won't spoil it here, but let me just say that it ca get creepy a times. Overall, i say this: if you don't get Eternal Darkness for the GC, you are definitly the insane one. Graphics: 5.0 Highly detailed charcters and historically done areas are the good point. The monsters look even better. Sound: 5.0 Creepy music the sets the mood will have you wanting more. Control: 4.5 Although it seems complicated at first, you get used to the controls as yo go. Being able to target body parts is a good addition to the game, and the quick spell casts your most frequently used spells. Fun Factor: 4.5 Although most of the puzzles are easy to solve, the real gold is behind the story lines and the action. This is definitly a must have.

It will mess with your sanity...and more.

Eternal Darkness, Nintendo's newest first-party game, is out, and ready to satisfy hundreds of thousands of customers. You play as 12 characters in this game, but the main characters is Miss Alexandra Roivas. The game begins in 2000 A.D., where Alex, a student at a Washington university, is summoned to her grandfather's home in Rhode Island, where he is found brutally murdered, with no clue to how it happened, and who did it. Alex vows to find her murderer, and, in her own investigation, finds a hidden room in the estate, and, there, she finds the Tome of Eternal Darkness, finding and reading pages hidden around the house, and, while she reads them, you play them. Now, there are the Ancients, whom ruled Earth, before being set away from it for various reasons. They now have a plan in which they will return and overthrow the humans. 12 people, in eras from 26 B.C. to 2000 A.D., will unintentionally help change the events to come, unless, that is, unless if they die before the chapter ends... There are three meters: Health, Sanity, and Magick. Your sanity, as it says in the instruction manual, is fragile. It is lowered when you're detected by a creature, or hit by certain creatures, and things such as hallucinations, will appear to haunt you. The camera angles can make this game frustrating, and, although you need to beat the game multiple times to unlock cheats, the replay value still sucks, and the game is not as fun the second time as it was the first time (Like many other games). If you beat games fast, rent this one. If you think you'll still like the game after you beat it a billion times, or don't play video games frequently enough to spend an hour or two daily playing this less than 7 days a week, then, I say, purchase this game. The darkness lasts only about 12 - 14 hours...

This is one of the best games I have ever played if not the best.

I bought this game about two weeks ago and am still enjoying it. I have gone through the game about six times and have to say that it was worth the wait. One of the reasons I bought the GameCube was for this game, as I saw the game being developed even for the N64, I thought that this was going to be a pretty cool game. When the game finally came out and was able to buy it, I had no clue what I was in for. I don't think that any game to date has been up to par with what the guys at Silicon Knights have brought to us. I have only one thing to say to all the people who are biased about GameCube, Xbox, or even the PS2, don't judge the system, judge the games. It doesn't matter what system a game is on, if it is a good game it is a good game.

Supriseingly,Nintendo pulls off a great horror game.

Many of us thought Nintendo was kiddy, well this proves they are not.Resident Evil is ok,but overall,Enternal Darkness is the better game. The storyline is great, and the graphics are stunning.A must play for all mature gamecube owners!

Possibly the game of the year

this has got to be one of the most innavotive, intriguing games i've ever played and one of the best games i've ever played. Graphics:4.5- a game with a very smooth frame rate, well crafted cinemas, amazing lighting effects and with solid textures but not as rich as re but it one of the best looking games on the gc yet so far. Sound:5.0- probably the best sound i've ever heard on a gamewith top notch voice acting and music that sets ur mood in a silent hum. Control:5.0- it doesn't get any better than this where the camera is excellent, it never has a problem, and the lock on feature to enimies is superbe. Fun Factor:5.0- if ur looking for a game with a excellent story line and storytelling and it really messes with ur head but have solid gamelay then ed is ur choice

Ace Review of Eternal Darkness

It's tempting to compare Eternal Darkness to Resident Evil, but don't. This is not survival horror; it's a straight-up adventure game that happens to be packed with pants-crapping freak-out sequences. This title will forever be remembered for its over-the-top efforts to spook you out. The game actually features a green "sanity" meter, which depletes every time you come across a monster. When the meter is close to empty, really weird things start to happen. . But it's an effect that never gets old. I often found myself deliberately letting my character go insane, just to see what happens.
