One of my favorite games. The game is no pushover, so if you get easily frustrated, do not play this game. The controls respond very well and the game looks incredible. There are 10 main missions and 5 bonus ones to unlock, plus you can practice your piloting skills in the Tatooine(T-16 Skyhopper only) level that is selectable if you don't want to do the Death Star attack first. Now you start off with the default fighter and depending on what the mission is and what ones you have beaten will determine which ships you will get to fly. There are 11 tech upgrades that prove most beneficial as you play. The upgrades are Advanced Shields, Advanced Torpedoes, Advanced Laser, Cluster missiles, Homing Torpedoes, more powerful Concussion missiles,Spread proton bombs, Homing Concussion missiles, Homing Cluster missiles and Advanced Targeting computer, you will enjoy these upgrades. The default ships for each mission are X-wing:Death Star Attack, Ison Corridor Ambush,Razor Rendevous,Vengeance on Kothilis,Raid on Bespin, Battle of Endor, Strike at the Core. The Snowspeeder is only accessible for The Battle of Hoth(you switch to X-wing later in the mission) and night version of Imperial Academy Heist. The Y-wing is the only ship for Prisons of the Maw and daytime version of Imperial Academy Heist and is not in Battle of Hoth or Strike at the Core. The B-wing can be chosen for Death Star Attack, The Ison Corridor Ambush, Razor Rendevous,Vengeance on Kothilis,Raid on Bespin and Battle of Endor. The A-wing is not available for the Death Star missions and the Y-wing/Snowspeeder specifics, but otherwise totally accessible. Those are the easy to get ships. The unlockables are The Millenium Falcon(bronze medals for all main missions). Tie-fighter you steal during either day or nighttime Imperial Academy heist and beat the mission it will be in the back of the hangar. Slave-1 is acquired by getting silver medals in the 10 main missions. The Naboo fighter requires you to find and beat everything in the Tatooine training mission at these different times 6:00am, 2:00pm,6:00pm and 11:00pm to unlock it. Vader's Tie Advanced is accessible after beating bonus missions Triumph of The Empire(must get gold) and Revenge on Yavin, You will also get the imperial shuttle to play with. The Cloud-car is only available during the mission Raid on Bespin when you get to Cloud City, there will be an icon on top of a building to switch to it for flying through the narrow corridors(actually any of the fighters will work better than it at blowing up the power generators). Jedi fighter is available if you get everything absolute or you cheat. Now all the aforementioned ships can be used in the bonus mission Endurance after you've survived a few rounds though. Now remember you must beat the mission with the default ship before you can gain access to the other ships, unless you've used cheats. As I said before, this is one of my favorite games and I think I've got it pretty well covered.

Compare the original Rogue Squadron and this one, and it's like you're comparing two different games. The first, even for the N64, was clunky and slow. This one flows quickly and is a ton of fun. Unlike the other two Rogue Squadron games, this one is movie-event-oriented. You start at the attack on the first Death Star and end in the exhaust port on the second one. In between, you play as Wedge Antilles, helping the Rebels prepare for the attack on the second Death Star. From the first moment you're thrown into action, it's like a whole new gaming experience. The game plays so fast it barely gives you time to catch your breath. Graphically, the game shines with detail and flow. Controlling your craft is easy to learn and easy to do. And if you ever get tired of flying, you can unlock the level where you escape from the Death Star in Episode IV. Turrets, anybody?

Not an overall bad game but its the same as all other Star Wars games only with improved graphics. Worth it if your a SW fan but other than that you better hope the sequel has something different and new to bring to the table.
The game forces me to play levels that get old quick!

I don't like the level of diffuculty the game has. In my opinion, stick with the early levels. Play them a billion times until you get bored with tears.
Use the force.....

Wow, a good Star Wars game, who would have thunk it. Use the force Luke! You'll need it in this tuff game. They did a great job with super graphics and music. Although Metroid Prime just raised the bar. If you're a Star Wars fan you must own this game. You'll find yourself pulled in for hours it's incredible. There are a few minor problems though. Some objectives are vague and the enemy fighters are hard to see as they blend into the background. It's now $20 so run to the nearest store and enjoy!
Tough, but worth the commitment.

Rogue Leader recreates the Star Wars space battle experience like no other game on the market. You'll be a crucial part of actual events from the original trilogy, as well as embark on a number of less documented missions. For that reason alone it's worth picking up. I'm a Star Wars fan, and I've finished Rogue Squadron and Battle for Naboo on N64, but I've never finished this masterpiece because it's a real challenge. I bought it to get a Star Wars fix, but it actually requires a lot more from the player in terms of commitment. It's frustrating enough that I docked a half point from the FunFactor, but it's good enough that I will continue to work at it. Rogue Leader is extremely polished and shows off the GC like few other games have to date (1/03). Now that it's available for $20 it's worth a look from everyone.
THIS is a real Star Wars game

I've been playing Star Wars flight sims since X-Wing debuted on PCs. Since then, I've played every SW flight sim out there, from TIE Fighter, to Jedi Starfighter. But, this one's the best. Rouge Leader has superb graphics, crystal clear sound, easy control, and overall, a great experience. The music is a real treat. Many of John William's best pieces of Star Wars music is here, from the exciting Into the Trap, to the dark and intimidating Imperial March (Darth Vader's theme). And, you get many cool ships. Aside from the X, A, and Y- Wings, you get the B-Wing, the Millenium Falcon, the Naboo Fighter, a car, a TIE Fighter, Darth Vader's TIE Advanced, an Imperial Shuttle and even the Slave I. Buy this one. It's a true epic Star Wars experience.

Rogue Leader is Factor 5's follow up to Rogue Squadron and Battle for Naboo, both on the N64 and PC. RL features battles taken straight out of the original trilogy, as well as some that fill in the gaps as we follow the trials of Rogue Squadron. The gameplay is enjoyable, with many challenges, including the medals. The bonus/secret levels are also fun, and Endurance is definately an interesting way to play away a day or 2 of your life. The game is a little shallow, with nothing new to offer after you've unlocked the secret levels and ships. Yet, it's a great title to have in your GC library. The graphics are the centerpiece, with designs and details that'll have wondering whether or not you're in a Star Wars film. Play it on the biggest TV you can get. Of course, the other big showcase of the game is the sound. Music direct from the films, plus some new tunes, compliment the ambient sound effects, delivered in Dolby Surround - Pro Logic II. The sound stage is amazing, and the directional effects only add to the experience. The subwoofer action is also pretty nice. So, in the end, Rogue Leader is a fun game that will, after you beat it, become a prime (no pun intended) demo title. Great game.
