A game for the true skaters

It isnt a THPS quality game, but thats a good thing. THPS is too fantasy based with bogus tricks that no pro could do. when you jump it's practically like your flying. ESPN skateboarding however is more based on true skating. You dont soar in the air when you jump and the tricks are more real than the tony hawk game. It is more focused on real skating which makes it great for true skaters. The levels however arent that great and the controls are hard to get used to.
One Order of X Games, but Hold the Good Stuff

"OKay, so that'll be 50 bucks, please." Please is right. X Games Skateboarding is probably one of ESPN's biggest mistakes. After months of endorsement, this one ended up being a real, real, well you know. The demo displayed excellent graphics with good gameplay, but the final cut seemed to have cut all the good stuff. The graphics are some of the worst in PS2's realatively short history; with choppy surroundings, jagged edges, and-despite the nice animation-has no trick-linking animation. The sound is the only strong point, with beats from SUM 41 and others accessed with the click of a button. In a pathetic attempt to have a different control scheme from Tony, XGS has just forty "uniqe" tricks and every one's special is the same. If you are in serious need of a good skateboarding game, well, you're scru-ed until Tony 3 arrives. G R A P H I C S - 2.0 After all the hard work put into getting good animations, the developers forgot to link the tricks, add that with severe jaggedness. S O U N D - 4.0 A good quality. That's rare for this game. You can access songs with the click of a button! But the repetitive skate sounds often annoy. C O N T R O L - 3.5 They tried not to entirely match Tony's scheme. And in the process, they made it ALOT worse. F U N F A C T O R - 2.5 This game is about as fun as golf, except its more boring. With fanciful levels and stupid objectives, who can go right?

Many people consider Tony Hawk's games the only good skateboarding experience on a system. Yes it's true this game is no winner and it won't satisfy you as much as Tony. But the x-game outing gives you average graphics with slowdowns, rough edges, barely interactive surroundings, and the evil (dare i say it)draw ins. Grinding is a pain especially since you have to balance with the left and right d-pad buttons, and even worse you have to hold down the grind button while grinding (unlike you know who's game). And manualing is hard as heck especially since you have to ollie first before performing the trick. The whole trick system should have been worked on and performing specials is hard and confusingly different then that of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. The music is good but some of the music on the soundtrack can get on your nerves and some songs are just plain... well you get the point ! My advice for anyone about this game is for you to rent the game first to see if you like it and then buy it if it satisfys your need for xtreme. Graphics-3.0 Sound-4.0 Control-3.0 Fun Factor-3.5

Theres only a few things I can say against this game I thought the graphics were excellent, the levels are cool and spacious, and its loading times arent too bad along with a great lineup of songs the only things I can say bad is that there should be more tricks available after awhile all you could do was the same ones over and over but it wasnt really that bothering because the gameplay kept it fresh and fun I do have to say though that it is hard to do combos and complete some of there licenses and dont bother with the actual x games because you wont win no matter how hard you try it could use some things like create-a-skater and create-a-park but I think it is a contender thats just my view though the only way to really know is try it yourself!one last thing I have to say as a bonus/disappointment is the levels I think there for the most part cool like I said there spacious and keep you going but they need some secret areas the only one I found was in the mueseum and it wasnt that great so like I said to really decide play it and find out its definitley a rental though!

Geeze...Gamepro makes this game sound like pure and total crap..it's not.The whole draw-in issue...it's barely noticeable, you'll be too busy watching your skater do his tricks.I like the way they catch the board and stomp it back onto the ground.Sometimes the control pissed me off a little. For instance,in X-Games mode, the controls seem not to respond as well, which is not a good thing because landing all your tricks is essential to get the Gold.Arcade mode, however, had me totally addicted.All-in-all,it's an okay game, but can only truly be enjoyed by the true skateboard enthusiast, not a Tony Hawk freak.Open your eyes people, there are more talented skateboarders than just Tony.(check out Colin McKay's insane Frontside Flips on Vert in the opening video!)

I recently just bought a Playstation 2 and then rented this game. The screen shots look great but once you start playing it it'll get more boring each time. The graphics were ok,but could of been better for PS2 and the sound just dosent make up.The fun factor is not that fun.Are you still waiting for Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 to come out?Well I suggest to still wait becase this game is horrible. The trick system is flat eerrr it just makes me so mad. Fun Factor:3.0 Graphics:4.0 Control:2.5 Sound 3.5
