Scary-good

id Software includes this message with each copy of Doom 3: Play the game the way it was meant to be played - lock the doors, turn off the lights, and turn up the volume. They might as well have added a fourth rule: Don't play if you have heart problems. For anyone who's interested in games for their scare factors, you need look no further than Doom 3. Even the very beginning of the game, where your actions are limited to picking up your standard-issue pistol and, in the words of the game's objective screen, "Performing the duties of a Marine," is freaky. "The duties of a Marine"? What does that mean? Does that include shooting demons? Well, after about ten minutes, it does. You know the drill, except there's more of a story this time around, and id takes more time to tell it through cutscenes. That said, if your computer's not up to snuff, you'd be better off picking up the Xbox version. This game is clearly intended for the top-of-the-line PC. Casual gamers who happen to have a PC probably need to get a major upgrade just to be able to play this game through smoothly. Is Doom 3 fun? If you like scary games, this is your wet dream. Doom fans will definitely want to pick up a copy. Beyond that...this game may scare most casual gamers away.

BFG nuff said

This is the best FPS out there right now.First of all the AI is amazing they don't come at like in R.E (plain stupid)they hide run for cover shoot anything! The graphics are also great.Everything comes in crystal-clear and the weapons are great. The BFG babyI (Big F-ing Gun) the sound also is stellar.I strongly recommend buying this great FPS if you are looking for a good PC i think it's only 20$ too

Doom 3 is back but was it worth the wait?

Remember Doom back around 1995? Doom was an instant classic and many people loved it. Now it's the year 2004 and Doom 3 is here. And agian, it's an instant classic. The game is actually based on Mars later into the feature. You play as a Marine and you have to invetigate Mars City. Your first mission is to find a missing scientist. The game gets into action really quickly with no real explaination of what's going on. The game's graphics are amazing. You'll need one powerful PC to run this bad boy. The sound great too with great voices and effects. The controls are great too. Like any other great FPS, the controls are pretty much the same. Be prepared to get freaked. The game is really, really dark. Also only few weapons actually have a melee attack. But some problems in Doom 3 is that it i in the future, why isn't there any guns with lights attached. You always have to change all the time. Also the bodies quickly dissapear after 2 shots. Doom 3 is great shoot 'em up game. Doom 3 is scary but a lot of action. It's a mixture of Halo and Resitdent Evil. It's are great game but you'll need a very powerful machine. Graphics: 5.0 Control: 4.5 Sound: 4.5 Fun Factor: 4.5

this game was good but no replay value

Those who played this game where very suprised how far they can push gaming this has had to be one of the funest games ive played. But it does have its drawbacks like it has no replay value what so ever. And you have to have to have a good computer to play it.As far as it being the worst doom game.Thats a complete lie ive never played any outher doom game and not gotten bored. This one was different I was actually shoced it was so good.Half-life 2 looks good but it will not have as good gameplay as doom 3.People say they expect more out of half life 2 but what more can you expect?

Old-School Terror

Back in the simple but sweet days when Doom hit our computers like a BFG all it took to get our heartrate up was to point a virtual gun at hordes of monsters and drop them like flys. But now the modern age has come. And gamers now play in worlds with intelligent enemies which require even more intelligent tactics to defeat. A definate far cry from the mad pixelated blood baths of the early days. But now the next installment in the Doom series looks to return us to our roots, and does an admiral job mixing oldschool gameplay with an astounding presentation. From the first moment you touch down on Mars it's quickly realised that all is not well, and soon after all hell breaks loose. And that's not metiphorical. Although the fighting mechanics are simple run-in-gun gameplay that quickly becomes a little dull, the supurb graphics become such an integral part of the horror factor that you will be too busy staring in amazement/horror as a pair of red eyes streak towards you through the dark. Or as the muzzle fire of your pistol occasionaly allows you to see flashes of a stumbling zombie. 5.1 audio and nice ambient effects don't hurt either. These kinds of effects truly propel the gameplay forward through some otherwise mediocre level design and gameplay. Plot points are sparse as well, and usually come in the form of audio and video logs. Although these are interesting, they are a bit rambly and lack any fastforward function at all. It's also a bit interesting that although the game obviously takes itself seriously, so the old Doom tricks don't really feel right in the environment. Such as trap doors under powerups or enemies spawning behind you. And it's also clear that most demons aren't smart enough to pass grade school, so why can't the other marines stay alive? Maybe they aren't much smarter. Although it's technical achievments may be enough to warrant a purchase by those distracted by shiny objects, they really don't make em like they did in the old days.

Go back to hell (yes you, the one reading this) ((But you don't have to))

A few years ago ID suprized us with this jewel at e3. And everybody was giddy. Then Bungie and Valve announced there sequels. And the Fps crowd didn't seem so focused on Doom 3 anymore. No. It didn't really happen like that, I just wanted a good opening. Well anyway, the fps crowd was seeing Doom as third on there list of games this year. Had it not been for Valves source code being stolen, Doom 3 might have had alot less sales, and i'd be writing about HL2 instead. These things are besides the point though. ID is a developer who knows how to make a good FPS (hell, they created wolfenstein and the first two dooms). It brings you into a true horror experience (note the key word: EXPERIENCE). The first level allows you to see just how Mars City operates. This is good because it gives you a chace to see the hell that was going on before, well... true hell broke loose. After that happens you stumble around in the dark with a small, and sometimes unreliable, flashlight. You slowly pick up remodeled weapons, as demand for them rises. You begin to face bosses and mosters, that would give the other doom a run for it's money (example: The hulking Hellknight). You also see sights that are truly ghastly (such as zombies eating other zombies). After a few levels you might gain much needed confidence, but for those who find movies scary, this game will bring you into a true hell. The best part of the game is picking up new things, whether they be weapons, or perhaps PDAs, which happen to be very good at calming your nerves. However, this game is not all posies and sunshine (actually it's never that), it can be a little repetative for those not scared by, well, any part of it. Also, while you can go into many rooms, it doesn't give the free FPS gameplay that far cry did. So some might not like it. But all in all Doom is a small slice of Heaven, in a very disturbing package.

Seem to disagree....

I have never disagreed with and Gamepro review as much as I do with Doom 3. I do agree with Graphics, this game, especially on Ultra Quality, easily has the best graphics of any game ever created. I also agree with the Sound, these are some of the best sound effects I have heard. Then comes Control. The controls *can* be like any other FPS on the computer. They don't get any easier than using the Up and Down arrows to move back and forth, Left and Right arrows to strafe. The mouse you use to look and use the buttons to Fire and Jump. How can you give it a 4.5 for that? Very easy, good, controls, just like most other computer games. Finally, Fun Factor. A 4.0? You have got to be kidding me, easily the best game ever created. There is non stop intense action. There are some great, scarey moments. They put so much detail into every part of the game, I just don't see hoe this game gets anything less than perfect scores.
