This is going down is history as one of the best ps2 games evermade. I love how they introduced Raiden as the new character. Many people didn't like it,but I enjoyed the entire game.

The second game in the MGS series just cant seem to hold up against MGS. I remember this game being hyped to hell and back. This game was going to destroy all and own the world konami though. But it didnt. I will get the positives about this game out of the way. The controls are good. A little clunk but not unmanagable. The graphics are great. At the time this was the best looking ps2 game around. You also get some cool weapons and gadgets to play with. But unfortunately thats all the positives. I will list all the negatives, so hide your eyes fanboys. Dont read any further. These negatives dont hurt the game much but MGS2 still proved to not be what I was hoping for. The biggest one is you dont get to play as snake. Yes you can play as him in the tanker chapter and thats it. After that its all crap with raiden. Oh yeah you have to play as raiden through the rest of the game, which blows. That is another big negative about this game. The other one is the story. Kojima seems to have cast aside his MGS roots and went for a more Jap anime story. That translates into alot of cheesy corny dialogue. Crappy over the top action. melodramatic BS and other such jap anime crap. The 3rd one is the bosses. They look and sound like some thing straight from a anime cartoon. They are all ridicolously absurd. Its sad really because the MGS bosses were for the most part cool. But these bosses are lame. The dialogue in the game sounds like crap from anime as well. Its absolutely painful having to listen to it all. It makes me cringe actually. If you must play this game go ahead. Your not missing much. really your not. I doubt even if you played this game it wouldnt help MGS4s story seem anymore believable or understandable.

It boils down to this: You need to play Metal Gear Solid 2. When you think great PS2 games, this should be one which comes to mind. Its an old game but it is still...well..Just Amazing. Great Story...Great Game..Great Characters...SNAAAAK

MGS2 was ahead of its time, and still is the best game on PS2. Well Metal Gear Solid 2. Its been a good 5 years since it's release, but to me its the most amazing game. Yes I may have some slight bias towards it, but to me MGS2 was the reason to own a PS2. Where do I begin... Lets start with the original Metal Gear Solid. The game was pushing boundaries for its time. But even when we look back now, it had elements missing. Yes it was fun and amazing, but there were a few things missing. Something that is easily rectified in MGS2. MGS2 boosts amazing graphics. Even with the PS3 almost upon us, the graphics are great. Its one of the few games that have stood the test of time. Simple things such as shooting bottles, glass, mirrors and knocking over ice buckets. It all adds up to the perfect game. Gameplay wise, it has massively added to the original MGS. being able to shoot in first person, to hang over edges, being able to hold up guards, the added tranquilizer gun, the wide range of other guns, the two scenarios with two seperate heroes. It all makes this game to die for. MGS2 has great playback value. Collecting dogtags is great fun, and to collect their set from every level difficulty too. The stealth and bandana are available to use, as well as the digital camera. Who can forget the different costumes too? All of these make the game worth playing again. So MGS2 set the pace for future games. It was amazing to play, and is still the greatest game on PS2. Just perfect, i love you Konami:-)

Typically in my mind is still the game of the century.MGS2 takes place a few years later after the shadow moses incident.The begining of the game has eyes on snake our hero and legend.He walking on the bridge of course smoking a ciggarette.He than takes of his coat and turns on his stealth camo.He jumps of the manhatten bridge,with a bungee rope around his waist.We than see a tanker come into view.Snake than pushes the rope onto the top of the tanker and jumps off.He than lands on the I believe 3rd deck.His stealth camo gets busted because of the impact.He will than turn on his codec and hey it's otacon.Cutschene will follow cutschene and than you finally have control of snake.A bunch of terrorists led by Colonel Gurlukovich and we also hear the voice of revolver ocelot!Now the game is pretty much infiltrate the tanker and destroy the new metal gear.Later in the game is your first and well only boss battle in the game against what appears to be Colonel Gurlukoviche's daughter Olga.When you beta her she will drop but she is not dead do to the tranquilizer gun you are using.You than pick up her usp handguna nd take it for yourself.Snake than looks up and see's a cypher hovering recording him through a video camera!??? This cypher is very important when you later in the game figure out why its filming you.When you get to metal gear finally you must take out your camera and take pictures of each side front and binary logo.Cutschene will follow again and ocelot shows himself and kills the colonel dolph and gurlukovich! why? you may ask when ocelot is on his side.Quote ocelot"I came to take metal gear back...back to the patriots"! Now he than feels something in his arm his left arm rips open of the fabric and we than hear liquid snakes voice! *gasp*He is attached to ocelot?....weird,anyways he will take hold of metal gear and take out snake and knock him into the already sinking tanker.He will than ride off underwater with the new metal gear and snake is left behind with hearing otacons voice yelling snake! Two years later:We hear Colonel campbells voice talking to another person who is code named snake? Cutschenes are annoying aren't they? So you will now take hold of a new character.He is more faster and more flexible than snake.He is able to do acrobatic flips while hanging and can do a no hand cartwheel that can knock enemie's out instantly.Lord in heaven more cutschenes.Now we see 2 guards knocked out and a man going up on the elevator.One man? *Spoiler Warning*The guy on the elevator is SNAKE alright he's alive.When your character gets up the elevator the colonel will than change his codename to Raiden.Now this part of the game is infiltrating the big shell,which is taking part cleaning up the tanker's oil that sank 2 years ago.The shell hold's a dark secret an another weapon of mass destruction.Now you will eventually meet snake later but hes under a new disguise.He is a navy seal named Iriqois Plisken.More characters come into the game later.Your objectives infiltrate the facility,save the president and get rid of the new metal gear and it's clones.The rest of the game is up for you to figure out and play.Overall this game was very good.Good graphics,good storyline,awsome characters and an arsenal of ass kkcking gameplay.All I have to say is best game continuing the series! watch out for Metal Gear Solid 3:Snake Eater!

...with Sid in saying that this game is really overrated. The storyline/cutscene was way over the top, and was trying way to hard if you ask me. It's like they combined a Tom Clancey novel, and then some stupid anime and got the worst of both worlds. The stealth part was fun, but I honestly think that Splinter Cell fully pwned this game when it came out.

I never played Meta Gear Solid. So when I bought the game, I was totally confused. Nevertheless, I had a blast. Solid Snake is cool, but you really play as Raiden. The action/stealth is balance & it really gives you one hell of a ride. I was totally hooked to this game. The only thing that surprised me was when I was fighting dudes naked, with my hands over my.....no-no area. Shocking yet humorous. The graphics rock, the story rocks, & generally, the game rocks!

I remember all of the hype for this game when it released after the playstation 2 launch and thought about buying it. I bought it when I had the money and immediately loved it. The story doesn't make any sense to me and other gamers but who cares. The only thing that I hated about the game was the fact that Snake was not the start of the game and had to share the spotlight with rookie newcomer Raiden(a wanna-be dork/snake with blond hair). The boss battles were better than MGS and harder and the ending left me saying "what the heck was this game about". I still replay this game from time to time but enjoy MGS3 better because it returned to the "actual" story rather than messing with my mind.

Although graphics and controls were great, the game was over way too soon. As always the Boss battles were not your standard run-n-gun as they made you think and use stealth to win. The best one in the series so far by a long shot.
