SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation - PS3

Pros Cons
Amazing visuals Not enough content
Addictive gameplay Doesn't live up to expectations
Innovative concepts Repetitive gameplay
Fantastic multiplayer
Could be worse

As a loyal fan to the SOCOM franchise, having played since way back in 2002... I only bought my PS3 to play SO:CON. Now, after 6 months, I'm used to how much this game sucks.

There are plenty of bugs, plenty of problems with stupid features... And the game is, as of yet, unfinished. But there are still many things that make the game worth playing. The graphics are amazing, map and weapon designs are beautiful, and you can customize your character. The lobby system is not nearly as good as it was in other SOCOM games, with the lack of text chat in-lobby. And the briefing rooms are unorganized.

The Quick Match/Party system is so stupidly broken, in the sense that people can only join quick match games before they start, so if people leave mid-game, the game does not fill back up. Usually you can play one or two maps before you have to leave and find a new game. And the fact that after each game you need to start a new party is still quite annoying.

A few fan-favourite weapons have been removed from this game, but a few were added back in to counter that. Removing the high explosive grenades and personnel mines were bad calls, but adding in C4 as a usable weapon was a good idea. The Commandos no longer have a suppressed sniper rifle, but the Mercenaries don't have a .50 caliber rifle. All in all, the game is still pretty balanced.

Oh, and factions are no longer Seals and Terrorists but Commandos/Special Forces and Mercenaries. When you start the game, you are a Commando. You have the same options as everyone else who just started the game. But as soon as you join a clan, you receive a new weapon option, new armour options, and a few extra pieces of gear while customizing your look.

A few fan favourite maps are brought back, and 4 all-new maps were added in. You have 7 maps, and the option to play 'Large' on 5 of them. Along with 7 different game modes, you have over 70 possible map scenarios to play.

All in all, I think while this game is far from great, I'm not about to put it away just yet. Updates are still coming, and on the plus side, the game can't get any worse.

EBURKULOSIS

This game is awful. Impossible to shoot, spawn poitns are a mile away. Sniping sucks, recoil on weapons sucks. I can never tell if someone is friend or foe quick enough. There are tons of glitch-b|t#$es killing you from the sky. I could go on forever. There are TONS of better FPS out there. KZ2 and R2 are so much better online it's sad.
