Super Mario Sunshine
Having played every main Mario game since Super Mario Bros., it felt weird to me that for the longest time I missed out on Super Mario Sunshine. The only reason was that I didn't have a Gamecube. Eventually I got a gamecube, and Windwaker. I then found Sunshine at a yard sale for 5 dollars and immediately picked it up. At first glance, the game seems fun but not usual Mario quality. But after the chase through Delfino Plaza is over, and you enter into your first true level; the game is absolutely awesome.
The level design is perfectly suited for the FLUDD attachment. With jump gaps just long enough to either get through with a long jump, or make it with the hover mode. The game has a nice mixture of sort of flat levels, to great vertical levels, with difficulty ranging from fairly easy to challenging. The graphics are amazing especially for a Gamecube game. The levels in which you get your FLUDD taken away are very creative and challenging, adding to a nice break in the action.
The controls work very well, with the occasional stick every now and then where mario doesnt turn around as he should. Some may get mad that Mario makes an extra small hop when jumping close to a ledge. It is slightly annoying but doesn't make much of a difference.
The story is typical Mario, which it's typical minor spin on what is ultimately the same story. If your a fan of Mario or platforming in general, and you have a gamecube or Wii, i suggest giving this a try. I'd suggest playing it and then playing Mario Galaxy, it'll make you more prepared for what Galaxy throws at you.
