Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VII - PlayStation

Pros Cons
Awesome audio
Engaging story
Epic boss fights
Addictive gameplay
Just plain fun
My beloved FFVII

I picked this game up brand new for $10. Then soon after I noticed that it began selling at around $50 - 70. Guess I got lucky, but I'd pay $100 for this game. It's just brilliant. The story consumed me all the way. I never have cared about characters as much I have the FFVII game.

Story: The story is brilliant, Cloud an Ex-Soldier who suffers from memory loss and identity problems joins up with a rebel group called Avalanche to blow up Mako reactors that are sucking the planet dry. This is the fault of an evil corporation named Shinra. Upon blowing up all these reactors, Cloud meets a flower gilr named Areis. She quickly draws him into a world he'd never expect, and a new, much greater evil is introduced in the form of Ex-first class soldier, Sephiroth, who wants to become a god. Together, Cloud and his friends must stop Seph at all costs or the world is doomed.

Graphics: Horrible by today's standards, but I enjoy them. The characters are extremly deformed and blocky, the environments look nice in some places, though, due to them being pre rendered. They do the job.

Sound: FFVII might have the most beautiful theme song ever written. The music is great all throughout.

Gameplay: lots of exploration, random battles, and a turn based system. I like the turn based system in FFVII. It's fast and easy to manage. Not overly complex like some RPG's. It's a breeze to execute attacks, magic, and summons. All around, good old fashioned RPG gameplay.

Overall: A timeless classic. This game has touched me and I will never forget it.

You are totally right about everything you've said in this one. It's a timeless classic and will never die. But I wanted to say something about your other posting that you had up about FFVIII. That game is also great, it does play slow, but that is the only thing that I'll agree with you on. I found myself playing that game for 13 hours straight when I first got it and would think that it is as equally brilliant as FFVII. The characters are great. And as for the complicated system, anyone can learn it and I just think that it made it more specific to what you wanted to do and gave you more options. Which is a good thing.

Personally my favorite FF game so far has been IX. I loved that game. I hope they keep making FF until around the time I die. Ha.
